Few things ruin an outdoor gathering—or a peaceful summer evening—like a swarm of buzzing, biting insects. Whether you're relaxing on the patio, hiking in the woods, or tending your garden, swatting at uninvited guests and itching afterwards is no way to spend the summer.
The good news is that you have loads of options for keeping the peskiest pests away this season. Classic bug sprays still exist and work great, even if you'd prefer to go DEET-free. Alternatively, opt for fans, zappers, or clever gadgets that will protect your personal space from those insect interlopers. Guava Girl Summer is this season's mood-boosting beauty trend

Basking in the sun, lounging by the pool, maybe enjoying a balmy evening out with friends — the carefree spirit that takes hold around this time of year is the inspiration for Guava Girl Summer, the latest beauty trend celebs and the internet have dipped into. On TikTok, the tag "Guava Girl Summer" yields result after result of glowy sun-kissed makeup, anchored by cheerful pops of soft pink and coral — in a swipe of lip gloss or a touch of dewy blush. But why the sudden obsession with this tropical fruit? Over the past several years, we've seen an uptick in brands and influencers tapping into our tastebuds. Look no further than Glow Recipe's skincare line made with fruit extracts; Summer Fridays' cult-status hot cocoa, iced coffee and brown sugar lip balms; and of course, Hailey Bieber's glazed-donut nails. "Beauty and food are two things we like to indulge in, so why not pair them together?" Toronto makeup artist Lateisha Grant said. For Guava Girl Summer, this means beauty products that feature the fruit front and centre. 9 makeup trends to try in 2025 according to the pros Bieber perhaps unwittingly co-signed the trend when she posted a selfie in Guava Girl-like makeup. Dunkin' (yes, the coffee chain) is in on it too, launching a Tropical Guava Refresher in the vibrant shade. For Ariana Weldon, a beauty content creator based in Florida, the appeal goes beyond the coral-pink hue and glowy complexion. "It's more than a makeup look," she said. "It's a whole state of mind that reminds you of sunshine, summer sunsets and feeling your best." An easy way to tap into your inner Guava Girl is with blush, lip gloss or fragrance, Weldon said. For a monochromatic palette, she dabs some blush on the eyelids too. And Grant shared her techniques to take the look to the next level. For a Guava Girl lip, she uses a dark-pink liner, fills in the pout with a lighter pink lipstick and tops it off with a clear or pink gloss. For the cheeks, try using a trio of liquid blushes, with the lightest shade closest to the centre of your face and the darkest on the highest point of your cheekbone. She recommended always starting off with a small amount of blush and gradually adding to it to avoid ruining any makeup you've already applied. This will achieve the signature look, but is it suitable for everyone? Grant thinks so. "With the amount of blush releases we had last year, nearly every shade in every formula, there's no doubt in my mind a consumer could find the blush options to tailor this look to suit their skin tone," she said. While the trend may be fitting for the summer months, Grant thinks interest will die down afterward, especially with another competing trend — blush blindness — still going strong. "Guava Girl makeup will likely be overshadowed as these two trends are very similar in terms of blush application," she said. Weldon, however, is sure it'll stick around. "Sure, beauty trends move fast, but this one is rooted in a vibe that feels timeless for summer," she said. Whatever Guava Girl's staying power, it may be the summery boost you're looking for — in your makeup routine and your mood. Beach vacation not required.
