
Google Cloud Summit highlights Qatar's digital transformation successes

Google Cloud hosted its second annual Google Cloud Summit in Doha on Thursday under the patronage of Minister of Communications and Information Technology HE Mohammed bin Ali Al Mannai, bringing together more than 1,500 industry leaders, developers, and IT professionals.
The Summit marked two years of the Google Cloud Doha region empowering local innovation and is set to explore the latest advancements in AI, data analytics, and cloud technologies.
The event featured significant discussions and announcements on strategic collaborations, including key developments with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) aimed at advancing Qatar's digital transformation journey.
The Google Cloud Summit Doha showcased the vibrant tech ecosystem in Qatar, provided insights into transformative AI technologies, and included panel discussions on data management and cybersecurity.
Assistant Undersecretary for Infrastructure and Operations Affairs at MCIT Sami Al Shammari said, 'Our collaboration with Google Cloud has served as a key enabler in Qatar's journey toward a knowledge-based, innovation-driven economy. Since the launch of the Doha cloud region two years ago, this collaboration has yielded tangible outcomes that directly support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in enhancing digital infrastructure, delivering scalable and secure government services, and building a future-ready digital workforce.'
Al Shammari added, 'By providing access to cutting-edge cloud technologies, Google Cloud is empowering entities to innovate, improve service delivery, and accelerate progress across key sectors. Their contributions in areas such as artificial intelligence and data analytics are also playing a pivotal role in developing local digital talent and equipping our workforce with the skills needed for tomorrow's challenges.
'We are eager to continue this productive partnership, further solidifying Qatar's digital future and working in tandem to realise the ambitious goals of the Digital Agenda 2030 and Qatar National Vision 2030.'
For his part, Regional General Manager of Google Cloud in Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Iraq Ghassan Kosta, said: 'Today's Google Cloud Summit in Doha marks a truly pivotal moment in our Qatari journey, celebrating two years of our local cloud region and our strong partnerships. Qatar takes part in UN conference
Tribune News Network Doha Qatar participated in the Ninth United Nations Conference on Competition and Consumer Protection, held at the Palace of Nations in Geneva. The Qatari delegation was headed by Assistant Undersecretary for Consumer Affairs at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Hassan bin Sultan Al Ghanim. The conference, held under the auspices of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), aimed to discuss policies and practices related to competition and consumer protection at national and international levels. It also evaluated the implementation of the United Nations Guidelines for Consumer Protection and the United Nations Set of Principles on Competition. Discussions also covered several key topics, including a review of the implementation of international principles and rules to limit restrictive business practices, and an assessment of two decades of voluntary peer reviews of competition policies and laws among countries. Furthermore, the conference explored ways to achieve greater integration between competition and consumer protection policies, in addition to examining the impact of competition laws on food value chains. The sessions also included presentations of reports by informal working groups on cross-border monopolistic conglomerates, product safety, and consumer protection ine-commerce. Qatar's participation reflects a commitment to strengthening its active presence in international forums and reaffirms its dedication to supporting principles and regulations that enhance competitiveness and protect consumer rights in line with global economicdevelopments. The conference also serves as a vital platform for member states to exchange views and expertise, contributing to the formulation of effective policies that serve the interests of nations and peoples.

QIIB honours group oflong-serving employees
Tribune News Network Doha QIIB honoured a group of long-serving employees who have completed 25 years of service during a special ceremony held at the bank's headquarters, in the presence of QIIB Chief Executive Officer Dr Abdulbasit Ahmed A AlShaibei. AlShaibei presented the honoured employees with certificates of appreciation, in the presence of QIIB Deputy CEO Jamal Abdullah Al Jamal and QIIB Head of Human Resources and Administration Ali Hamad AlMesaifri. Qatar, China sign MoU to increase air transport rights
The civil aviation authorities of both the State of Qatar and the People's Republic of China held a meeting in Beijing, on Thursday. The meeting discussed ways to enhance cooperation in operational matters for the national carriers of both countries, and to develop capabilities in this field with the aim of ensuring the continuity of air traffic efficiently, in addition to a host topics of mutual interest. The Qatari delegation was headed by آ In Charge of Managing Qatar Civil Aviation Authority (QCAA), Mohammed bin Faleh Al Hajri, while the Chinese side was headed by Director General of the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) Chen Wei. The discussions resulted in the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at increasing transport rights for passenger and cargo flights between Qatar and China, and cooperation in the field of code-sharing between designated carriers, which opens new horizons for cooperation between them in the field of air transport, in addition to the positive outcomes that will be reflected in economic and investment activities and trade exchange in both countries.
