Sentencing submissions expected Wednesday for teen found guilty in fatal swarming attack
Sentencing submissions are expected today for a teen girl found guilty of manslaughter in a fatal swarming attack on a homeless Toronto man. The teen was one of eight girls between the ages of 13 and 16 who were arrested and charged with second-degree murder in the death of Kenneth Lee. The other seven girls pleaded guilty to lesser charges — five to manslaughter, one to assault and one to assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm. This girl, who was 14 at the time of the attack, also tried to plead guilty to manslaughter at the start of her trial, but her plea was rejected by the Crown. In May, Ontario Justice Philip Campbell found her not guilty of second-degree murder but guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter. The judge said the Crown had not proven beyond a reasonable doubt that the girl dealt the fatal blow to Kenneth Lee, or had the state of mind required for murder during the December 2022 swarming.

Manslaughter charge laid in 2022 death: Winnipeg police

THE CANADIAN PRESS/David Lipnowski Winnipeg police have laid a manslaughter charge against a Winnipeg woman in connection with a suspicious death nearly three years ago. According to police, officers responded to the death of 65-year-old David Brian Zurawell on Dec. 8, 2022. He was found dead inside a home in the 1-99 block of Sardelle Crescent. The homicide unit began investigating. On July 23, 2025, a 67-year-old woman was arrested. Alma Zurawell has been charged with manslaughter and detained in custody. The charge has not been proven in court.

RCMP arrested an Edmonton man after seizing a loaded gun and more than 200 grams of meth east of Sherwood Park on July 24, 2025. (Supplied) RCMP say they seized a loaded gun and more than 200 grams of meth during a traffic stop last week. While the RCMP's Alberta Community Response Team was conducting patrols east of Sherwood Park on July 24, officers stopped a Range Rover. Police searched the vehicle and seized 207 grams of meth, 31 grams of psilocybin, a 9mm loaded and restricted handgun with ammunition. (Supplied) Following the investigation, a 49-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking, driving while unauthorized and unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle. The man was bound by a firearms prohibition at the time of his arrest. He was remanded into custody and is to appear in court Wednesday.
