Samantha Ruth Prabhu's Subham OTT release date confirmed: When and where to watch the Telugu horror-comedy?

Time of India01-06-2025
After a moderately successful theatrical run, Samantha Ruth Prabhu's debut production Subham is now gearing up for its OTT debut. The Telugu-language horror comedy, directed by Praveen Kandregula, is confirmed to stream exclusively on JioHotstar starting June 13, 2025. The film initially premiered in theatres on May 9 and is now preparing to reach a wider audience online.
From ZEE5 Exit to JioHotstar Deal
The digital release of Subham faced a delay due to a sudden change in OTT partnerships. Originally, the film had secured a deal with ZEE5 for both digital and satellite rights. However, following underwhelming box office collections on the first day, ZEE5 reportedly attempted to renegotiate the agreement. The fallout led Samantha to terminate the deal and strike a new partnership with JioHotstar. The platform officially announced the streaming date with a promotional poster, confirming the June 13 release.

Set in the pre-internet era of early 2000s Bheemili, Subham blends supernatural elements with comedy. The story follows Srinivas, a modest cable operator, and his wife Srivalli, an MBA graduate, whose life turns unsettling when Srivalli begins behaving strangely every night at 9 PM. Srinivas eventually discovers that multiple women in their village are facing similar unexplained behavior during the same hour. The bizarre pattern leads to a deeper mystery involving a spiritual attachment to a television serial titled Janma Janmala Bandham.
Creative Plot and Fresh Talent
The film's plot takes a humorous turn as three local friends, who manage the town's only cable network, attempt to resolve the possession issue by creating an alternate ending to the serial. Subham showcases a young and relatively new cast including Harshith Reddy, Gavireddy Srinivas, Charan Peri, Shriya Kontham, Shravani Lakshmi, Shalini Kondepudi, and Vamshidhar Goud. Samantha also appears in a brief cameo as Maya Matasri and is featured in a promotional song of the same title as the serial within the film.
The screenplay is written by Vasanth Mariganti, while Raj Nidimoru served as the creative producer. The film's music is composed by the duo Shor Police, with Vivek Sagar handling the background score. Mridul Sujit Sen led the cinematography. The production was backed by Samantha's Tralala Moving Pictures in collaboration with Kanakavalli Talkies.
Although it started slow at the box office, the film's clever narrative and performances helped it recover commercially, reportedly making profits on a Rs 10 crore budget. Samantha's strategic promotions across Telugu states played a major role in the film's turnaround. The horror comedy has been particularly appreciated for its unique concept and humorous commentary on entertainment's impact on women in rural India.
With a growing fan base and digital release just around the corner, Subham is expected to find renewed interest among family audiences.
