A Reminder There's Somehow A '28 Years Later' Sequel In Seven Months
28 Years Later is a critical and box office success, sailing to a $60 million opening worldwide when the original film, 28 Days Later, only made $82 million total. It is on pace to rapidly surpass its overall budget.
What 28 Years Later viewers may not know, or at least have forgotten, is that there is a sequel film, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, being released soon. Not conceptually, not in some far-flung release window. It's out in seven months. As in, January 2026, barring any changes.
The film is not directed by Danny Boyle this time, but rather Nia DaCosta who did The Marvels and Candyman. Alex Garland is the writer of both films (and the OG 28 Days Later). The reason the movie is out so soon is that both 28 Years films were shot back-to-back.
It retains some of the stars from 28 Years Later, including Ralph Fiennes and Aaron Taylor-Johnson (uh, spoilers?), but the centerpiece is the return of Cillian Murphy to the series, who did not star in the first 28 Years installment. There is a third movie planned, but Danny Boyle says that it will only be made if the first two are successful. That does seem like it will be the case, albeit I would be shocked if 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple does nearly as well as the original movie, as I think a seven-months-later sequel with a very similar name is going to confuse some people. And you will definitely have to have seen the first film for it to make much sense, no doubt.
28 Years Later
28 Years Later was at one point the second best-reviewed horror movie of 2025 (nothing is going to be Sinners, obviously), but the score has dropped a bit. Audience scores are not great, with a 65% on Rotten Tomatoes. Here's how the 2025 critic list looks now for mainstream horror:
I am certainly curious what 28 Years Later: The Bone Collector does in terms of both its critic and audience reviews. There's also a significant difference with Boyle switching to Nia DaCosta, who directed the biggest cinematic bomb in the MCU, The Marvels (I would argue that film is over-hated and deserved better, but still). Given the context of the sequel and what she has to work with, I think this will still go well.

Drew McIntyre is stuck in the UK, WWE reportedly working to bring him back
Earlier today, Drew McIntyre took to social media to cut a promo amongst cows. Wait, huh? I'll allow him to explain, and it's bad news for WWE right now: 'It's quite the week I've had. You want to know how it's been capped off? I can't get back in America, they wouldn't let me board my flight. … I'm in England still, at my buddy's wedding, and what a wedding it was. Planning to go back, train for SummerSlam but no, no, no, I got blocked. 'Wife and I walked up to the gate, trying to check in, always goes perfectly fine. Not this time. 'Sir, you don't have your U.S. passport. I know who you are. I know you've lived there for a long time. I know you're showing me pictures of your passport and your global entry, and it doesn't matter, I know exactly who you are, your property and the likes. But, no, we can't let you in the country.'' He went on to say his wife went back home to look after their cat before turning it into a kayfabe issue and blaming Jelly Roll, the man he was scheduled to wrestle against at SummerSlam. According to PW Insider, this is a real issue WWE is currently working to resolve and McIntyre is genuinely stuck. We'll see if they can get things figured out in time for one of the biggest shows of the year.
