Kashi Declaration advocates consensus against drug abuse
The Kashi Declaration also emphasised integrating spiritual, cultural, educational, and technological efforts to prevent addiction and support recovery.
It proposed institutional mechanisms for multi-ministerial coordination, including the formation of a Joint National Committee, annual progress reporting and a national platform for linking affected individuals to support services.
Organised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the summit gathered over 600 youth leaders, representatives from 120+ spiritual and socio-cultural organisations, academicians, and domain experts.
'The Kashi Declaration is not just a document, but a shared Sankalp (resolve) for the Yuva Shakti of Bharat,' stated Union minister for youth affairs and sports Dr Mansukh Mandaviya.
'Bharat's Spiritual strength has always guided Bharat through its crises. This is why spiritual institutions must now lead the charge in creating a Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat. They will serve as the backbone of this Maha Abhiyan,' he added.
Himachal Pradesh governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said: 'This sacred land of Kashi is the cradle of Sanatan Chetna (eternal consciousness), where discipline and values guide life's journey towards moksha. We are not just gathering; we are sowing seeds that will one day grow into a strong tree of national transformation.'
He further cautioned: 'If a nation where 65% of the population is youth falls prey to addiction, only those who break free from it will be able to build the future.'
The summit featured deliberations across four plenary sessions.
These deliberations formed the foundation of the Kashi Declaration that will serve as a guiding charter, with progress to be reviewed during the Viksit Bharat Young Leaders Dialogue 2026.
The keynote address of Session 4 was delivered by Nitin Agarwal, minister of state (independent charge) for excise and prohibition, Uttar Pradesh.
Several dignitaries participated in sessions. They included Union minister for social justice and empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar, Union culture and tourism minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Uttar Pradesh minister for labour and employment Anil Rajbhar, Union minister of state for home affairs Nityanand Rai, Union minister of state for youth affairs and sports Raksha Nikhil Khadse and Uttar Pradesh sports minister Girish Chandra Yadav. Khadse highlighted the misuse of digital platforms targeting school children and reiterated the government's zero-tolerance policy.

Farmers stage protest, seek clearance for Kalasa Banduri Project
Farmers under the aegis of Kalasa Banduri Horata Samiti staged a demonstration in front of the office of Union Minister for Consumer Affairs Pralhad Joshi in Hubblali on Monday demanding early clearance for the Kalasa Banduri Nala Project. The farmers, led by samiti president Vijay Kulkarni and others, took exception to the delay in giving environment and forest clearance to the project which has been pending for long. The protestors said that Goa is unnecessarily creating hurdles to the project even after the Mahadayi Water Dispute Tribunal allocating water to Karnataka for utilisation through diversion of water from the Mahadayi basin to the Malaprabha basin. Samiti vice-president Babajan Mudhol and others led the protest.

Regular audits of NSFs will promote financial accountability and ensure optimal use of public funds allocated for elite sports development. The bill also lays down legal clarity around governance roles, enhancing India's credibility with bodies like the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and boosting prospects for hosting future international events. Athletes at the Center of Governance Placing athletes at the heart of decision-making, the bill requires each NSF to form Athlete Committees and include Sportspersons of Outstanding Merit (SOMs) in their leadership structures. This gives athletes a direct role in shaping sport-specific policies and ethical standards. The bill guarantees safe, harassment-free environments and establishes transparent, accessible grievance redressal mechanisms. It also aims to reduce career disruptions caused by drawn-out legal battles—creating a governance model rooted in accountability, athlete welfare, and inclusive administration across all levels of Indian sport. Labelling Dhankar's resignation as "sudden and unfortunate", Gogoi said that the Vice President presided over Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meetings on Monday. He expressed that the relationship between Dhankar and the central government might have taken a hit, given that a Union Minister was also not present in the BAC meeting, which was scheduled for yesterday afternoon. Former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel expressed doubts over the "health reasons" cited by Jagdeep Dhankar for his resignation as Vice President of India, saying it was an indication of "an impending political storm". He said that Dhankar's resignation comes after two ministers, including Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president JP Nadda, failed to attend the afternoon meeting on Monday. "Yesterday, I was also there, and he was also present in the meeting. He was fine and in good health... In the second meeting, Union Minister JP Nadda did not attend, and subsequently, a resignation occurred, so it is not related to health issues. It is a serious matter that the VP resigned during the ongoing session. This is an indication of an impending (political) storm," Baghel told reporters here. Earlier on Monday, VP Dhankar had announced his resignation on health grounds. "To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution," Dhankar's resignation letter read. This development comes after sources informed that a committee is expected to be constituted to further investigate the allegations against Justice Yashwant Varma, following the notices given by MPs in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha for his removal. Justice Verma was indicted by an in-house inquiry committee after semi-burnt wads of cash were found in his residence following a fire incident.
