The Baja Bug Is Back, Baby
Volkswagen Beetle
might be dead, but there's still plenty of love out there for the iconic Bug. There's so much love out there that UK-based tuner company Twisted has shifted some attention away from building Defenders and
Jimnys
to launch a new special project. It's called the TBug, and it's more than a retromodded Volkswagen Beetle. Each is a one-off, ground-up custom build emphasizing old-school Beetle fun.
Twisted will take a vintage Beetle, sourced from the 1960s through the 1980s, and add a long-travel suspension with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires for extra grip. There's a strengthened chassis and upgraded brakes to improve handling. The specialist also doubles the Beetle's power output... to just under 80 horses. This thing is light, and it's not light straight-line speed is a priority.

The
VW
has modern touches, too, like LED lighting, but it doesn't distract from the retro aesthetic that Twisted recreates. The baja-inspired body is easily recognizable, even with Twisted's custom face. The company wanted to 'capture the honest simplicity of the original Baja Bugs.' We love it.
Each TBug is custom-built to the buyer's preferred spec, which includes trim, color, and optional equipment. No two will be alike, according to the company. Twisted will officially unveil the car on May 29 at its new showroom in London. It might be the best way to enjoy the Bug life in 2025, seeing as how
VW has no plans to launch a new one

Alpine Wants You to Race Its New Electric Hot Hatch
Alpine turns 70 this year, and to celebrate, it's offering its first electric race car to customers. The brand based the car on its new A290 hot hatch. It's called the A290 Rallye and features all the kit you'd expect from a proper rally car. The electric motor sends 220 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque through a ZF limited-slip differential to the Rallye's front wheels. It has five more hp than the range-topping road-going A290, which can hit 62 miles per hour in 6.4 seconds. Alpine says it updated the car's gearbox and the electronic management systems to better handle the demands of stage rally driving. Photo by: Alpine Photo by: Alpine The Rallye also has a modified suspension complete with ALP Racing shock absorbers, with 18-inch EVO Corse wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport A tires. Six-piston front brakes and single-piston rears with 13.8- and 11.0-inch discs provide the stopping power, which use a specific ABS tuning from Alpine Racing. And, of course, it has a hydraulic handbrake. The car uses the same 52.0-kilowatt-hour battery as the regular A290, and it'll also have a "new innovative system" that correlates the sound to the car's speed and throttle position. Inside, it has a welded roll cage and Sabelt bucket seats, both of which comply with the FIA's latest regulations. The car costs €59,990, or $70,500 at today's exchange rate. That buys you a complete, fully assembled, and painted car. This example with the white wheels and painted tires looks great. Alpine is organizing a single-rally challenge for before the end of the year that'll bring all the A290 Rallyes together. Geely brand to enter the UK in Q4
Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group (Geely) announced that it plans to launch the Geely brand in the UK in the fourth quarter of 2025, following a growing number of Chinese automakers into one of Europe's largest vehicle markets. Geely is already present in the UK with its Lotus, Volvo Cars and Polestar subsidiaries, but has yet to launch its mainstream Chinese Geely brand. The company confirmed that the first Geely model to be sold in the UK will be the EX5 battery-powered SUV, which the company said is still undergoing "intensive development work" to meet British car buyers' standards. Geely confirmed the EX5 'will be the first in a diverse range of high-quality, accessible vehicles tailored for the UK.' Geely is in the process of rolling out the EX5 model in global markets. It is currently available in markets such as Australia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brazil, and Germany. The Geely brand was launched in Greece at the beginning of July, also spearheaded by the EX5. The UK is one of Europe's largest markets for battery electric vehicles (BEVs), with 382,000 units registered in 2024. "Geely brand to enter the UK in Q4" was originally created and published by Just Auto, a GlobalData owned brand. Mitsubishi Motors' new Grandis SUV to debut in Europe
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation's subsidiary Mitsubishi Motors Europe is set to roll out the all-new Grandis compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) in Europe, marking the inaugural vehicle under this name to be introduced to the market in 13 years. The vehicle, which will be produced at Renault's Valladolid plant in Spain, is based on the Common Module Family (CMF)-B platform and is supplied by Mitsubishi Motors' Alliance partner Renault on an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) basis. The lineup includes the mild hybrid (MHEV) and hybrid EV (HEV) models. The Grandis, whose name signifies "large and impressive' in Latin, features 19-inch alloy wheels, a two-row, five-seat interior with adjustable rear seats, and an expandable luggage area. The SUV's MHEV powertrain is available with a 1.3-litre direct fuel-injection gasoline turbo engine and a HEV option, offering a combined output of 115kW. The HEV model combines a four-cylinder 1.8-litre gasoline engine with two electric motors, a power electronics box involving two built-in inverters and converters. Additionally, it includes a 1.4 kilowatt-hour (kWh) lithium-ion traction battery and a smart multi-mode gearbox. It also offers three driving modes, including an EV mode for electric-only driving, along with an E-Save mode activated at the driver's choice. The Grandis is equipped with a 10.4-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system and advanced connectivity features, including Google built-in. Mitsubishi Motors has also integrated advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and active safety systems in the all-new Grandis. Mitsubishi Motors executive vice president Tatsuo Nakamura said: "Following the launch of the Outlander PHEV last year, we are strengthening our lineup in the European market with the introduction of the all-new Grandis, featuring Mitsubishi Motors' Dynamic Shield design. "With an additional launch of the Eclipse Cross BEV model around the same time, we will offer a diverse range of electrified vehicles—HEV, PHEV, and BEV—to meet the varied needs of our customers." Recently, the company reported a 4.4% rise in global production to 75,350 units this May from 72,199 units in the same month of 2024.
