Robert Pattinson's 'Batman 2' Gets New Update Drawing Conflicting Fan Reactions

Yahoo12-06-2025
It's been more than three years since Robert Pattinson's The Batman hit theaters, and fans continue to wait for the next big step forward toward the sequel.
The film, which Matt Reeves directed, premiered in March 2022, and the follow-up movie is still expected to be made. However, the timeline remains a question mark.
Roughly one month before the release of the new Superman movie, DCU's co-CEO, James Gunn, sat down with Entertainment Weekly and provided a few significant updates. While the news of an upcoming Wonder Woman film was the most noteworthy takeaway from the June 10 interview, Gunn did address the state of The Batman Part II.
Gunn stated that Pattinson "is still there" for Reeves' movie; however, his update on where things stand with the film led to a major split regarding how fans reacted.
"What Matt's doing is still really important, despite all stories to the contrary," Gunn comments. "We're supposed to see that script shortly, and I can't wait."
The comments show that some fans remain incredibly excited about the sequel. They also prove that many others are becoming frustrated with the lack of true updates and the slow process to get the ball rolling on The Batman Part II.
"I love Robert Pattinson as Batman, and Matt Reeves is doing that world justice… let him cook," wrote one fan.
"Loved the first one hope this one moves along soon," added another.
"Oh wow Batman and the new Superman can't wait to see their stories clash," replied another fan.
Mixed in with the positive responses were questions from others about the delay in the script, as well as frustration about any realistic timeline for the movie's release."Once they start shooting it's a minimum 2 years before it releases so we ain't seeing that till 2030," read one comment.
'Wasn't the script supposed to be sent like weeks ago?" added another fan with a crying emoji.
'How have they not received the script yet???? What are they doing?" read a frustrated response.
"Every week they're about to see the script," replied a fan.
Although Gunn has remained adamant that The Batman Part II is coming, even Pattinson jokingly mentioned the lengthy delay when Naomi Ackie asked if he'd play Batman again during an interview with Hero Magazine in May.
"I f***ing hope so," Pattinson said with a laugh. "I started out as young Batman and I'm going to be f***ing old Batman by the sequel."
Gunn has given a fair amount of updates on the project, even if he doesn't have much new information. Here's to hoping that the next tidbit he provides about The Batman Part II includes news on casting or a potential timeline for the movie's release.Robert Pattinson's 'Batman 2' Gets New Update Drawing Conflicting Fan Reactions first appeared on Men's Journal on Jun 10, 2025

James Gunn Says ‘I'm Irritated by People' Outraged Over ‘The Batman 2' Delay: ‘Get Off Matt Reeves' Nuts… He Doesn't Owe You Something Because You Like His Movie'

James Gunn has made it clear in several interviews in the lead up to next month's 'Superman' that Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson's 'The Batman 2' remains a priority and is still 'important' to DC Studios, despite baseless social media rumors claiming otherwise. Now in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gunn flat out said he's become 'irritated' by the continued outrage over the long wait for 'The Batman' sequel. 'Listen, we're supposed to get a script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it,' Gunn said. 'People should get off Matt's nuts because it's like, let the guy write the screenplay in the amount of time he needs to write it. That's just the way it is. He doesn't owe you something because you like his movie. I mean, you like his movie because of Matt. So let Matt do things the way he does.' 'I mean, it's just that thing people don't need to be entitled about. It's going to come out when he feels good about the screenplay. And Matt's not going to give me the screenplay until he feels good about the screenplay.' Gunn has also made it clear in several interviews that he will never go into production on a movie at DC Studios until the script is finished. The director went so far as to say that the 'No. 1 reason' the film industry is dying is 'because people are making movies without a finished screenplay.' It's been a long development road for 'The Batman 2,' which Warner Bros. delayed last year from Oct. 2, 2026 to Oct. 1, 2027. The first movie opened in theaters in March 2022 and grossed $772 million at the worldwide box office. Gunn previously defended the delay on social media by writing: 'To be fair, a 5-year gap or more is fairly common in sequels. 7 years between 'Alien' and 'Aliens.' 14 years between 'Incredibles.' 7 years between the first two 'Terminators.' 13 years between 'Avatars.' 36 years between 'Top Guns.' And, of course, 6 years between 'Guardians Vol 2' and 'Vol 3.'' Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Gunn said that he is pulling back a bit from using his social media platforms like Threads to debunk countless incorrect rumors about his projects and those he's developing at DC Studios. 'I've kind of quit because it just happens so often,' he explained. 'There are a couple of people, specifically, who have pretty large followings who just consistently put out false stories, just one after the other after the other, 95% of the time. Maybe once out of every 20 times, they say something that has some slight or partial basis in reality. And it gets to be old. I'm not sure, some of those people, that I'm not actually helping them in a certain way by debunking them, because you're giving them traffic, which I always do, but I think they like it. So I mostly quit.' Gunn's 'Superman' opens in theaters July 11 from Warner Bros. 'She'd be a great Wonder Woman, by the way.' 'She was in a movie that I made seven years ago,' he added. 'We've been friends and have known each other since that time. I followed her then, I didn't just follow her.' Earlier in June, Gunn told Entertainment Weekly that a new feature film following Wonder Woman is 'being written right now.' He added that the movie would come in addition to an HBO series about Wonder Woman's home of Themyscira. Gunn said that the TV project is 'slow moving, but it's moving.' The Wonder Woman movie is only one of many feature films in development at DC Studios. 'Superman,' written and directed by Gunn and starring David Corenswet as the Man of Steel, is set to release in July. 'Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow' is scheduled for release in June 2026, directed by Craig Gillespie. 'Clayface,' a horror film and origin story of the titular Batman villain, is also in the works and set for release in September 2026. James Watkins is set to direct with a script from Mike Flanagan and Hossein Amini. James Gunn Says Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman Will Unite in the DCU… Just Not Yet — GeekTyrant

DC Studios co-head James Gunn is planting the seeds for a future where Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman once again share the screen, but fans hoping for that moment right away might want to pump the brakes. While walking the red carpet at the London premiere of Superman , Gunn was asked if we'll see DC's iconic Trinity together in his rebooted universe. His answer? 'Of course, yeah! But, not in the next movie.' Yes, the holy trinity of superheroes is coming, just don't expect them to crash through the same wall until later down the road. Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot prevoiusly stood side by side in Batman v Superman and Justice League . But Gunn's DCU is going to do a bit more world-building than Zack Snyder did before he brings these characters together. Gunn is currently developing a separate Batman reboot with The Brave and the Bold , directed by It 's Andy Muschietti, and a new Wonder Woman film is also in the works. No casting announcements yet for Bruce or Diana, but the foundation is clearly being laid. The Trinity is coming… Gunn's just making sure the timing is right.
