Ishaan Khatter agreed that the debates that Kabir Singh sparked were important.
Ishaan Khatter has given his take on his brother Shahid Kapoor's controversial film, Kabir Singh. While Ishaan admitted that Kabir Singh was tough to watch, he lauded Shahid for bringing layers to the character. Ishaan opined that Shahid Kapoor deserves love for the hard work he put into the film. He also agreed that the debates that the film sparked were important.
Ishaan Khatter told Zoom, 'If somebody is so attached and opinionated, it's coming from a place of passion. We have a very passionate cinema audience. Certain societal discussions about that film were important and conversations that should've been had. Not giving the film a hall pass and saying it was good because it started that conversation or was intentioned for that, I'm not saying that."
He added, 'Not only as a brother, but also as an actor, I saw the layers Shahid brought to that part. It's not easy to watch a character like that, let alone empathise with. While seeing all the red flags laid out in front of you, it's undeniable there was a large audience who loved that work and the film."
Ishaan explained, 'He deserved the love for the work he put in and what he was able to bring to the character. I'd go as far as to say he brought layers, a certain dignity, a righteousness, and at the same time, a brokenness to a character that only an actor of that calibre can. I'm very proud of him and look up to him. He puts his heart and soul into his work."
'We've seen it time and again, he's challenged the status quo. He's gone right, he's gone wrong. He's been ahead of the curve. He's done films like Haider, which were highly ahead of their time," he added.
'He's also done things like Kaminey at age 29, which no one expected him to do. He's constantly trying to push the envelope as an actor. I'm all for that cause. Of course, there's a certain responsibility you have as a public figure to talk about things that matter and get behind things you believe in. I don't think it's okay to be irresponsible. But as far as his work is concerned, he's always been top of the line," Ishaan said.
About Kabir Singh

Exclusive: Pawan Kalyan says neither ‘Hindutva hero' nor ‘power star' defines him

Actor-politician Pawan Kalyan said that he is equally at ease both in his political role and as an actor, and that neither persona — be it the 'Hindutva hero' nor 'power star' — fully defines him. In an exclusive interview with India Today, Kalyan spoke about his upcoming film 'Harihara Veera Mallu', his political ideology, his cultural roots, and the way he sees his identity reflected in both cinema and don't consider myself either as a Hindutva hero or as a power star,' he said. 'Whatever comes my way, I try to give my best. I'm comfortable as a leader, I'm comfortable as a Deputy Chief Minister... Whatever the situation demands out of me, I give my 100%.'Kalyan's latest Telugu film 'Harihara Veera Mallu' features him as a warrior tasked with retrieving the Kohinoor diamond from Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. While Aurangzeb is the antagonist, Kalyan maintains that the film is a work of fiction inspired by historical elements. 'It is a fictitious story... about a character called Harihara Veeramallu, who goes all the way to Delhi to bring back Kohinoor. It is a rivalry between Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah and Aurangzeb,' he explained. When asked if his portrayal of Mughal rulers as villains aligned with a political narrative or popular box office formula, Kalyan said any resemblance was coincidental. 'This plot was conceived by the scriptwriter-director Krish Jagarlamudi around 2018. We didn't even have a BJP alliance then,' he said. He added that it was not about recent developments or ideology, but a story that had been in the works for years, centred on the historical Kohinoor diamond which was found in Kollur Mine in the Golconda region, which is now in Andhra Pradesh. Still, Kalyan asserted the need for a more balanced view of history. 'Definitely we should look at the Mughals more objectively,' he said, recalling how school textbooks focused heavily on the 'pious' side of Aurangzeb but omitted his repressive policies, including the jizya tax imposed on non-Muslims. 'They could have presented both good and bad... not just one side.'Asked about his Janasena Party's future in Tamil Nadu, where he has made several recent visits, Kalyan said he is not in a hurry to expand for political gain. 'To develop a party takes a long time and deep commitment,' he said. 'For me, my party should advance interests for cultural and national integration, not just to grab power.'Kalyan also reflected on his ideological journey — from admiring leftist figures like Che Guevara and Fidel Castro to supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He said he was shaped by a socialist family background where devotion and social justice coexisted. 'My father was a member of the Communist Party, but he was also a devotee of Lord Rama,' he said. 'Social justice and devotion go hand in hand.'When asked who his real hero was — Narendra Modi or Che Guevara — Kalyan responded: 'I like both. I respect them.' He added, 'This country needs a very strong leader that quality I found in Narendra Modi.'advertisementFinally, reflecting on the challenge of juggling cinema and public service, Kalyan admitted it is difficult. 'I struggle to shift from political seriousness to acting. I often ask myself whether I should continue acting,' he said, adding that financial considerations drive his decision to keep making films. 'If I had enough income, I wouldn't do films. Politics is my real passion and national service.'For Kalyan, the boundaries between actor and leader blur not out of design, but from his effort to remain authentic. Whether as a fighter on-screen or a policymaker off-screen, he says he simply does what he feels 'needs to be done'.- EndsMust Watch IN THIS STORY#Andhra Pradesh

Lee So-eun: From Law to Music - The Inspiring Return of a Multi-Talented Artist

The Incredible Journey of a Multi-Talented Artist You're 16, you release your debut album, become famous for hits like "Husband" and "Kitchen," then decide to completely change careers, become a lawyer in New York, and after two decades, return to your first love: music. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Sounds like something out of a Bollywood movie, right? But this is exactly what Lee So-eun has done, and honestly, it's giving us major life goals. The Korean artist, who's now 42, is set to release her new album "Lee So-eun's Perspective - Notes on a Poem" on July 23rd, marking her return to music after a 20-year hiatus. For those doing the math, her last album "Think of Me" was released way back in 2005. That's like... before Instagram was even a thing! When Dreams Take a Detour (And That's Totally Okay) What makes Lee So-eun's story so relatable is how she didn't follow the typical "stick to one thing" narrative that we're often pressured into. After gaining popularity with songs like "Resembles You," "Kitchen," "Farewell," and "For a Long Time," she made the bold decision to pursue higher education. She graduated from Korea University's English Literature department in 2007, then packed her bags for the United States. Talk about a plot twist! She got accepted into not one, but four American law schools including Northwestern University, Cornell, Georgetown, and Notre Dame. She chose Northwestern University's Law School in Chicago, focusing on human rights law and copyright law - areas that probably resonated with her artistic background. This reminds us of how many young people today are exploring multiple career paths. Just like how some of our favorite influencers are also entrepreneurs, or how actors become directors, Lee So-eun proved that you don't have to be stuck in one box forever. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Musical Comeback That's Making Hearts Flutter Fast forward to 2025, and Lee So-eun is ready to show the world that artistic souls never really fade away. Her new album is a collaboration with children's song composer Rema (real name Kim Eun-sun), featuring 12 poems from the poetry collection "To My Little Giant" transformed into songs. What's really cool is that she personally translated four bonus tracks into English, giving listeners a chance to experience how language changes the emotional delivery of the same content. The album was co-produced with help from various artists including Choi Jin-kyung from crossover band "Second Moon," producer Yang Si-on, blues & jazz pianist Nam Me-ari, and producer Lee Ki-hyun. The project became especially meaningful to her after becoming a mother. She felt a thirst for content that could positively influence flexible and pure hearts, wanting to create something that could awaken children's emotions, comfort teenagers' feelings, and serve as a medium of empathy for adults navigating changing relationships.

I'd quit acting if I had steady income: Pawan Kalyan on balancing films, politics

Telugu superstar and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan spoke about the tough balance between his film career and political life. He said that even before joining films, his true passion was always public service and bringing social about the balancing act in an exclusive conversation with Rajdeep Sardesai, consulting editor, India Today TV and anchor Akshita Nandgopal, Kalyan said, "For me, my priority and my heart will always lie with social transformational politics, even before I entered cinema. I've been a socially conscious person since childhood. Films came to me later. It's quite a tough job (managing both films and politics). The tough part is - you fight against your rivals, talk about public policy, and then suddenly go back to cinema and try to shake a leg or deliver dramatic lines. That's where I really struggle."advertisementHe admitted that while action sequences come naturally to him thanks to his martial arts background, other aspects of acting, like dance or melodrama, often feel awkward. "Sometimes I wonder whether I should have quit acting long ago. But my only financial source is cinema, so I think I have keep doing this," he explained. "For me, politics is a way of national service to me. It's not otherwise, it's a service to society. If I had enough money, if I had a continuous stream of income, I don't think I would do films. Because more than films, my passion is for the public and politics," he added. Pawan Kalyan will next be seen in the period action film 'Hari Hara Veera Mallu'.
