Zahid tells Umno members to stop trampling each other, says internal feuds risk party's survival

Malay Mail13 hours ago
SEGAMAT, July 6 — UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reminded the leadership and members to stay away from the culture of putting each other down which is not beneficial to the party.
Comparing the action to 'crabs in a bucket', he said all members should instead work together to strengthen the party's internal security for the survival of the party ahead of the upcoming 16th general election (GE16).
'Don't be like crabs in a bucket... all the crabs want to get out, but step on the others so that they can climb up.
'In the end, not a single one comes out, all die in the bucket. Why are we dying in a bucket because we trampled on each other?,' he said at the closing of the Segamat UMNO Division Delegates Meeting at the Taman Yayasan Multipurpose Hall, here yesterday.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, stressed that the culture of pointing fingers and assuming that only one is right will only break the people's confidence in UMNO.
'Any differences of opinion among members must be expressed in a civilised and ethical manner, especially when discussing internal party issues.
'If today we are small leaders, God willing one day we can become big leaders, but if we are rude to others today, when we rise, more people will be rude to us,' he said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, also called on the entire UMNO machinery to remain focused on efforts to strengthen unity among the grassroots and not make differences of opinion a cause for division.
Also present were Johor UMNO Liaison Committee chairman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi and Segamat UMNO Division chief Datuk Zahari Sarip. — Bernama

He said it was based on observations and results of the Mahkota and Ayer Kuning by-elections, and pointed out that BN had secured the Mahkota seat with a majority of 5,166 votes in the 15th general election (GE15), but managed to win with a majority of 20,648 votes in the by-election, thanks to the partnership with PH. 'The same with Ayer Kuning, during GE15, we won with a majority of 2,213 votes then when the by-election happened, we won with a majority of 5,006 votes. That's the type of increase we can see from the cooperation with PH,' he said during his speech at the officiation of the Gopeng Umno Division Delegates' Meeting here today, in the presence of Perak Umno chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Gopeng Umno Division chief Datuk Hang Tuah Din. He said that the cooperation with PH should be a guide and reflection for leaders and the grassroots as the strategy is sound and suitable to retain existing power. 'We cannot be proud and arrogant and want to go solo. This is the current reality and in this way, we can also become dominant in the national political arena,' he said. Meanwhile, Saarani said Perak Umno will focus on attracting support from non-party members as its main strategy in maintaining BN's wins in GE16. – Bernama ahmad zahid hamidi barisan nasional general election politics

French visit to yield RM4bil in potential investments, says Miti

Investment, trade and industry minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said the mission's overall success reflects the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies. (Bernama pic) KUALA LUMPUR : Malaysia is expected to reap RM4 billion in potential investments and RM675 million in potential exports following the trade and investment mission to France led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on July 4. In a statement today, the investment, trade and industry ministry said Anwar met 40 representatives from France's industrial sector, with several companies expressing intention to invest in high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, digital economy and sustainable infrastructure. 'As for potential exports, RM675 million was generated for high-impact sectors such as aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital economy, lifestyle and halal industries. 'These are sectors targeted under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 (NIMP 2030) and the Green Investment Strategy,' it said. Miti said several companies also shared their intention to continue investing in Malaysia, driven by key factors such as a conducive, stable and dynamic investment ecosystem; encouraging global demand for Malaysian-made products; efficient domestic supply chains; a highly skilled workforce; and investor-friendly government policies. The delegation included the minister, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, and representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade). Tengku Zafrul said the mission's overall success reflected the foreign companies' continued confidence in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies, supply chain ecosystem, competitiveness and economic growth potential. 'The investment and trade potential to be realised will also provide business opportunities for local companies, including small and medium enterprises, and more high-paying jobs for Malaysians. 'All these are key in driving our economic transformation agenda,' he said.
