MSM Malaysia aims to increase export volumes
KUALA LUMPUR: MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd is targeting a significant jump in export volumes of value-added products like liquid sugar and premixes from MSM Johor this year.
The group aims to ramp up exports to 360,000 tonnes in 2025, up from 240,000 tonnes last year, leveraging enhanced production capacity from its Johor refinery (MSM Sugar Refinery Johor Sdn Bhd) and strategic partnerships, said its group chief executive officer Syed Feizal Syed Mohammad.
He added that MSM Malaysia seeks to penetrate deeper into China's high-potential market while consolidating its position in Asean, as part of its strategic move to expand its export footprint.
'We are not venturing into a new market, as China has been an established market.
'But, with increased capacity and better efficiency at our Johor refinery, MSM now has more room to produce additional volumes beyond domestic needs, making it logical to scale up exports,' he said after the company's AGM here yesterday.
He said MSM Malaysia is banking on its premium quality sugar and existing ties with China Oil and Foodstuffs Corp, which is one of China's largest state-owned agribusiness (agricultural business) conglomerates and food importer, to expand sales of both refined sugar and value-added products.
'Our wide range of sugar products exports currently comprises about 15% to 20% of MSM Malaysia's overall sales portfolio, while more than 60% of the group's exports are already destined for Asean markets.

The airline will be operating chartered flights four times a week – every Monday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday – from July 24 to Aug 24. The first flight, which landed at Kota Kinabalu International Airport at 9.35pm on Thursday (July 24) saw a total of 182 passengers on board. According to STB chief executive officer Julinius Jimit, the seasonal route marks a key development in boosting international air connectivity to Sabah. SEOUL: South Korean police raided the headquarters of K-pop agency HYBE yesterday as part of an investigation into alleged unfair stock trading involving company chairman, Bang Si-hyuk. Asiaone reported yesterday, citing a source familiar with the matter, that the country's financial regulator has referred Bang to prosecutors for investigation. This follows actions taken during HYBE's initial public offering (IPO) in 2020. Media reports claim that Bang and three other executives misled investors into selling their shares to an investment firm under their control. They then allegedly profited from these shares following the company's listing. HYBE, the agency managing global sensation BTS, has stated it is fully cooperating with the police and other authorities. "We will take the necessary time to thoroughly demonstrate that the IPO was carried out in full compliance with laws and regulations," the company said in a statement. Bang, who founded HYBE, remains its largest shareholder. The Seoul Metropolitan Police declined to comment on the raid.
