We reached out to auto experts to discuss their picks for new vehicles that are worth your money in 2025. Here's what they had to say.
If you're considering a Hyundai, this is one car you want to purchase brand new. Hyundai is known for having one of the best warranty coverages in the industry, offering a 10-year/100,000-mile warranty for the original buyers of the vehicle. Additionally, with safety features only available in newer models, like SmartSense driver-assist, and the fact that Hyundai vehicles depreciate quickly, it's a no-brainer to buy brand new.
'While Hyundai has reinvented itself and has gone from being a low-budget, low-reliability brand to a competitive contender, it's best to buy new rather than used,' said Melanie Musson, auto industry expert with Auto Insurance. 'Hyundai offers an excellent warranty, and it's worth buying a new car just so you can have the peace of mind of having that warranty. If you buy a used model that's beyond its warranty, you could end up with major issues like engine failure and fluid leaks that you'll be entirely responsible for fixing.'

While Kia has something similar to Hyundai's 10-year/100,000-mile warranty, you'll want to buy brand new because of the improvements they've made in the newer models. Kias are now some of the most dependable models, such as the all-electric EV9 SUV. So, while buying used may save you a few extra bucks, buying new guarantees you have a car that will work for an extended period and have covered repairs if something goes wrong.
'Kia's warranty, like Hyundai's, is excellent,' said Musson. 'Unfortunately, they're not known for being high-mileage cars, so you should expect to start having engine and transmission problems shortly after the warranty expires.'
The newest Jaguar models have AI-assisted driving and are made of better materials, completely elevating the experience of owning a Jaguar. You won't be able to find these innovative features in older models. Plus, with a pretty big depreciation over the first few years of ownership, the best way to experience this brand at its features would be to buy it new.
'Jaguar has upgraded their tech and interiors recently, but their older models haven't aged well: dated infotainment, bizarre transmission issues and expensive maintenance,' said Alex Black, chief marketing officer at EpicVIN. 'New is the only option unless you want to play mechanic.'
The newer Fiat models have so much innovation packed into them, including hybrid systems, great gas mileage, responsive performance and easy handling, making them easy to handle and maintain. Fiats are designed for those who need to commute short distances, drive in a city and need to get around tight areas. Older models can really show their wear and tear, but newer models have a better performance rating and more reliability.
Luxury brands are notorious for being expensive when something goes wrong, simply because the parts are customized to the specific brand instead of being universal. Having a warranty on your side can help minimize this cost, leaving the manufacturer liable for any issues you may have. The newer models of Land Rovers feature a lot of advanced technology, such as high-end entertainment systems and customization options, to make your car feel unique and high-end.
'Land Rover depreciates very quickly, but there's a reason for that,' said Musson. 'Once the warranty expires, the brand is known for its tendency to break down and require expensive repairs. The suspension that makes it a luxurious ride can fail, resulting in an uncomfortable ride. If you buy new, you can enjoy all the benefits a Land Rover vehicle offers without worrying about the cost of maintenance.'

Good Samaritan helps rescue driver from car in Lake St. Clair

A good Samaritan is being recognized for jumping to help a driver after the vehicle went into Lake St. Clair on Saturday. According to the St. Clair Shores Fire Department, a bystander named Richard Moore helped pull the driver out of the water. The driver was taken to the hospital for evaluation. The fire department says first responders arrived at the scene within minutes and found a vehicle submerged. They checked for additional occupants because there were children's items floating in the water. No additional occupants were found. A firefighter sustained minor injuries during the search from broken glass. "Always use extreme caution around submerged vehicles and/or crash scenes — even shallow water can present serious dangers. We are thankful as always for the teamwork between our residents and department," the fire department said.

Social Security no taxes message on Trump bill raises eyebrows

President Trump's 'big, beautiful bill' is sending mixed messages about whether most Americans are required to pay federal income taxes on their Social Security benefits. 'It's a mixed bag for seniors, because some seniors will get some tax relief; the cost of that, though, is borne by the entire Social Security system,' Alex Lawson, executive director of left-leaning advocacy organization Social Security Works, told USA Today. The bill, which Trump signed into law on Saturday, included a $6,000 tax deduction for Americans 65 or older. After Congress passed the bill on Thursday, the Social Security Administration said the legislation 'delivers long-awaited tax relief to millions of older Americans.' 'The new law includes a provision that eliminates federal income taxes on Social Security benefits for most beneficiaries, providing relief to individuals and couples,' the Thursday press release said. 'Additionally, it provides an enhanced deduction for taxpayers aged 65 and older, ensuring that retirees can keep more of what they have earned.' However, policy experts are concerned that the bill does not include a provision to eliminate federal income taxes on Social Security benefits. 'There is no provision in the budget bill that directly 'eliminates' or even reduces taxes on Social Security benefits,' Howard Gleckman, senior fellow at the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, told the Washington Post. Trump's bill offers a tax deduction of $6,000 to seniors making up to $75,000 individually, or $150,000 on a joint return. The deduction is lowered for incomes above that level and axed for seniors with individual incomes of more than $175,000, or $250,000 jointly. However, the new deduction for seniors is set to expire within a couple of years. The median income for seniors in 2022 was about $30,000. 'The people who benefit by definition have to be richer, and people who benefit the most are the richest people,' Bobby Kogan, senior director of federal budget policy at the Center for American Progress, told CBS News. Before the megabill's passing, 64 percent of seniors receiving Social Security income paid no tax on their Social Security due to exemptions and deductions, according to an estimate by Trump's Council of Economic Advisers. Under Trump's megabill, 88 percent won't be paying. Marc Goldwein, senior vice president of the nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, told the Post that the rise is due to the bill's increase in 'the standard deduction for seniors, which, as a result, reduces the number of seniors who will pay taxes on their Social Security benefits.' Put simply, the new legislation will provide limited benefits for lower-income seniors because they already pay less in taxes. 'Lower-income earners benefit less than middle and upper-middle income households,' Garrett Watson, senior policy analyst at the Tax Foundation, a center-right think tank, told USA Today. 'It's been marketed as tax relief for seniors, but a lot of seniors are going to be surprised when they find out it doesn't apply to them,' he added. 'I'm getting asked all the time by folks what this actually means for their tax situation.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
