The National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has awarded a ₹4,100-crore contract to a consortium comprising Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon, Siemens, and Siemens Mobility GmbH. The contract covers the signalling and telecommunications systems for the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor , a key component of India's National Rail Plan 2030.Of the total order value, Siemens's share stands at ₹1,230 crore. The company will be responsible for the design, installation, and long-term maintenance of European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-based signalling and train control technologies. The execution period is 54 months, with Siemens also tasked with providing maintenance services for 15 years.The ETCS Level 2 system to be deployed by Siemens is designed to support train operations at speeds up to 350 km/h. It enables real-time train supervision, continuous wireless communication, and centralised traffic management. ETCS Level 2 is currently operational in more than 50 countries.On the contract award, Sunil Mathur, managing director and CEO of Siemens, said, 'As a consortium, we are proud to partner with National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited, in the high-speed rail project. This project reflects our commitment to ' Make in India ' and delivering technologies that promote sustainable and future-ready mobility.'

Maharashtra: Work on Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project in full swing
New Delhi [India], July 5 (ANI): The work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed bullet train project is going on in full swing in Maharashtra, with major structural and tunnelling milestones being achieved, according to the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) said on Saturday. According to the NHSRCL, work on all three elevated stations in the state, Thane, Virar, and Boisar, is advancing swiftly, and the first slabs for Virar and Boisar stations have recently been cast. Across the alignment, pier foundations and pier works are underway at various locations, with approximately 44 km of piers cast to date. In the Palghar district, viaduct construction has also commenced using full-span box girder launching technology, starting from the Dahanu area. Additionally, the excavation of seven mountain tunnels in the Palghar district is actively in progress, demonstrating the project's engineering scale and complexity. Bridge construction has also kicked off at three major rivers: Vaitarna, Ulhas, and Jagani, further contributing to the corridor's critical infrastructure. An important component of the project is the 21-kilometre-long underground and undersea tunnel connecting the Mumbai Bullet Train station at Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Shilphata. Of the 21 km tunnel, 16 km is being excavated using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs), while 5 km is being executed using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM). The tunnel includes a 7 km undersea stretch beneath Thane Creek, marking a significant feat in Indian tunnelling history. So far, approximately 4.1 km of tunnel heading has been achieved through NATM from the Shilphata site, and two concurrent faces have been developed from the ADIT portal. In terms of vertical construction, base slab casting at the Vikhroli shaft (56 meters deep) and Sawli shaft (39 meters deep) has been completed. Additionally, sludge treatment plants are being installed at shaft locations, and the Mahape tunnel lining casting yard is actively producing tunnel lining segments. For the under-construction Mumbai Bullet Train station at Bandra Kurla Complex, 80% of the excavation work has been completed. Base slab casting at 100 ft below ground level has already started at both ends of the station site, NHSRCL added. (ANI)

Road Safety Alert: Centre Urges Two-Wheeler Riders To Use BIS-Certified Helmets- Details
New Delhi: In a major step towards ushering road safety, the Union government on Saturday appealed to consumers across the country to use only Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified helmets. The Department of Consumer Affairs also called for strict enforcement against the manufacture or sale of helmets without BIS certification. According to data from the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, India has over 21 crore two-wheelers on roads. While wearing a helmet is mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, its effectiveness depends on quality. Sub-standard helmets compromise protection and defeat their purpose. To address this, a Quality Control Order has been in force since 2021, mandating ISI-marked helmets certified under BIS standards (IS 4151:2015) for all two-wheeler riders. 'As of June 2025, there are 176 manufacturers across India holding valid BIS licenses for protective helmets,' the Ministry said. "The Department has observed that many helmets sold on roadsides lack the mandatory BIS certification, posing significant risks to consumers and numerous fatalities in road accidents. Therefore, there is an urgent need to tackle this issue head-on," it added. In a bid to enforce quality standards, BIS regularly conducts factory and market surveillance. In the last financial year, it tested over 500 helmet samples, and more than 30 search-and-seizure operations were carried out for misuse of the BIS Standard Mark. "In one Delhi operation, over 2,500 non-compliant helmets were seized from nine manufacturers with expired or cancelled licences. Similar action at 17 retail and roadside locations led to the seizure of around 500 substandard helmets, with legal proceedings underway," the Ministry said. Further, BIS has added a provision on the BIS Care App and BIS portal to check whether a helmet manufacturer is licensed or not and also allows users to lodge a complaint on the BIS Care App. As part of a nationwide consumer awareness initiative, BIS organises the Quality Connect campaign where 'Manak Mitra' volunteers engage directly with consumers to provide information on mandatory certification for helmets and other products.
