Can Ohio State go back to back?
The Buckeyes begin the season as the co-favorites to win the national title with Texas. Both Ohio State and the Longhorns are at +500 to win it all ahead of their Week 1 matchup in Columbus.

So far, Georgia is the only team to win back-to-back titles in the College Football Playoff era. The Bulldogs took down Alabama at the end of the 2021 season to win the national title and then demolished TCU at the end of the 2022 season to win it all.
Those two titles for the Bulldogs came in the four-team version of the CFP. Ohio State's title a season ago came in the first 12-team playoff as the Buckeyes had to win four games. Ohio State blew out Tennessee at home and Oregon in the Rose Bowl, then held off Texas in the Cotton Bowl and Notre Dame in the national championship game.
Both the Buckeyes and Longhorns enter the season with new starting quarterbacks. We shouldn't have to introduce you to Texas' starter, as Arch Manning is the summer Heisman favorite ahead of his first season as a full-time starter.
In Columbus, former Alabama signee Julian Sayin is in line to take over for Will Howard. Sayin was the No. 2 pro style QB in the class of 2024 when he signed with the Crimson Tide and enrolled early. But he entered the transfer portal a month after he signed with Alabama following Nick Saban's retirement and went to Ohio State.
Arch Manning didn't get many snaps in Texas' CFP semifinal loss to Ohio State last season, but he'll be leading the Longhorns in Columbus in Week 1 this season. ()

Sayin is +1800 to win the Heisman ahead of July and his teammate Jeremiah Smith is another one of the top favorites at +1000. Smith was simply dynamic as a true freshman in 2024 and was one of the best wide receivers in college football.

They both will be getting plays from a new offensive coordinator in 2025 as well. With Chip Kelly now the offensive coordinator for the Las Vegas Raiders, Brian Hartline will be Ohio State's new play caller. Kelly called plays in his only season in Columbus after Ryan Day relinquished play-calling duties.
Former Detroit Lions coach Matt Patricia is also Ohio State's new defensive coordinator after Jim Knowles went to Penn State. Knowles, a Pennsylvania native, is now the highest-paid defensive coordinator in college football.
Overall, the top five favorites to win the title all come from either the SEC or Big Ten. Georgia is the No. 3 favorite at +650 ahead of Penn State at +750 and Oregon at +800. Gunner Stockton is set to be Georgia's QB after taking over for Carson Beck in the SEC title game.
The Nittany Lions return QB Drew Allar and a host of other key contributors as they look to make another postseason run. Penn State dominated SMU in the first round and beat Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl before losing to Notre Dame in the semifinals.

Oregon won the Big Ten title in 2024 thanks to a regular season win over Ohio State and a Big Ten title game win over Penn State. The Ducks will have former UCLA QB Dante Moore as their starter with Dillon Gabriel off to the NFL. The potential loss of WR Evan Stewart for the entire season because of a knee injury could loom large.
The first team outside the two powerhouse conferences on the board is Clemson at +1300. The Tigers could be the best value pick among all the favorites. QB Cade Klubnik broke out in 2024 and both the offense and defense return a ton of talent.
Notre Dame is at +1400 to win it all and ahead of both Alabama and LSU. The Tide and Tigers both missed out on the playoff field in 2024 and have the best odds of any team that failed to make the postseason a year ago.

While football is his specialty, Sarkisian also highlighted where Texas stands academically. "Name another school who's getting compared to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, but on the flip side is getting compared to Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama on the football field," Sarkisian said. While, in the end, Sarkisian's impact will be measured in wins and losses, he did not hold back when expressing his support for the school he calls home. The Longhorns' leader made it clear that the university has his support across several areas, beyond athletics.

Michigan football earns prediction for 5-star EDGE Carter Meadows in 2026
Michigan football continues to be on a recruiting heater, having received two commitments on Friday evening with plenty more to come. And now it appears that the Wolverines won't just add to the class, they'll potentially get a top overall prospect. The final official visit weekend of the summer cycle, tabbed Victors Weekend, saw some top-tier talent come through Ann Arbor. None bigger than 2026 Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows, the 6-foot-6.5, 225-pound talent rated as the sixth-best player in the country, per On3. It's been a battle with several schools, namely Ohio State, but there's now a prediction that the maize and blue will win out. On Saturday morning, On3's Steve Wiltfong put in a prediction indicating that Meadows will wear a winged helmet when all is said and done. Meadows does not yet have a commitment date, so there's no clear idea of the timeline. Could he up and decide to shut things down at his leisure? It's certainly possible. The scouting report from 247Sports' Andrew Ivins: Spider-like pass rusher with exceptional physical specs, but one where the sack total has yet to match the big-league potential. Can give opposing offensive tackles fits just with his stride length as he can run the arc and right into the quarterback. Has spent much of prep career attacking from a 5-technique in a four-man front. Wins more times than not with his top-flight athleticism as he pairs adequate get-off with slippery inside-outside agility, but further technical development will dictate pressure rate on Saturdays and beyond as he's got the levers to chop and swipe his way around the corner like few others. Makes his fair share of stops in backside pursuit with his closing speed, but has to get better at crushing blocks and holding his turf if he's going to make a living as an every-down defender. Should be viewed as a high-upside edge player that has a chance to develop into an absolute game-wrecker at the Power Four level and then an early-round NFL Draft pick if he can soak up coaching and embrace the weight room. Might be worth a look in a hybrid off-the-ball role as spatial awareness fostered on the basketball court allows him to drop into zones and affect passing lanes. Here is the currently committed class, ranked No. 11 by both On3 and 247Sports, as of Friday evening: Michigan currently has two edge rushers committed in four-star McHale Blade and three-star Tariq Boney. The Wolverines may take up to four this cycle with Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork four-star Julian Walker also in strong contention.

Which Gator lands on CBS Sports' list of most dynamic CFB players
What does it take to be labeled a "dynamic" player in college football? Dual-threat quarterbacks mix the pro-style pocket passing NFL scout love and the running ability that seems to be taking over the position at large, a chunk of skill position players are recruited as "athletes" while playing multiple positions and then there's Travis Hunter who played at an All-American level on both sides of the ball while at Colorado. All of these archetypes fit the Merriam-Webster definition of the word dynamic — "marked by usually continuous and productive activity or change" — but in sports, dynamism has a certain je ne sais quoi to it. As CBS Sports' Brad Crawford puts it, "the players I most remembered jumped off of the screen in the biggest moments of the biggest games." Crawford put together a list of college football's 25 most dynamic players of the past 25 years, and there's surprisingly just one Florida Gator on there. While Gators fans may be quick to jump to the most sacred name in all of Gainesville — Tim Tebow — it's not the golden boy who made the cut. Tebow helped popularize the running quarterback, and he did it in a bruising way that hasn't quite been replicated. But his passing lacked at times, and there's a better all-around choice for this list. Percy Harvin. Athlete. "The Gators did an expert job picking and choosing when to incorporate Harvin offensively," wrote Crawford, "whether that meant lining him up next to Tim Tebow in the backfield or breaking him out at receiver. Over this three-year stint in Gainesville, Harvin was instrumental in leading one of the nation's most explosive offenses, averaging 11.6 yards per touch with 32 touchdowns. His 9.2 yards per rushing attempt led the country in 2007, which ironically, was Tebow's Heisman year." Harvin was a video game character in real life. An offensive weapon that demanded the focus of multiple defenders, Florida and Tebow likely wouldn't have the same success without him on the field. His success carried over into the NFL, and he's the kind of name that comes up in water cooler talk, which is the kind of topic Crawford is looking to explore deeper.
