Steve Sarkisian ranks Longhorns football as nations best
Since arriving in Austin, Steve Sarkisian has turned the Texas Longhorns into one of the best football programs in the country. That is poised to continue with the top-ranked 2025 recruiting class in the country. The Longhorns have also been busy building for 2026 with 15 commits, two of whom are five-star prospects. Due to the on-field results, Sarkisian is one of the best coaches in the nation.
Recently, the Longhorns head coach made an appearance on the '3rd and Longhorn' show and explained why he believes that the Forty Acres is the best place in the country to play college football.
"I honestly think this is the best place in the country to come play football at," Sarkisian said. "I firmly believe that, and I think we have the stats, the nuances and the information to back that up," Sarkisian said. "Who's the one school that's gone to back-to-back college football playoffs, back-to-back semifinals? Who's the one school their first year in the SEC that went to the SEC Championship game? Who has the most draft picks in the NFL draft over the last two years? ... Who has last year signed the best class in the country, the year before that a top-three class in the country, the year before that a top-five recruiting class in the country?'
Under Sarkisian's leadership, Texas has become a fixture in the College Football Playoff. Last year, they fell two wins short of a national title and are one of the early favorites as the regular season quickly approaches. While football is his specialty, Sarkisian also highlighted where Texas stands academically.
"Name another school who's getting compared to Harvard, Yale, and Princeton, but on the flip side is getting compared to Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama on the football field," Sarkisian said.
While, in the end, Sarkisian's impact will be measured in wins and losses, he did not hold back when expressing his support for the school he calls home. The Longhorns' leader made it clear that the university has his support across several areas, beyond athletics.

Paige Bueckers Making Air-Tight Case for WNBA Rookie of the Year

Paige Bueckers Making Air-Tight Case for WNBA Rookie of the Year originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The number of recognizable players with superstar talent in the WNBA is rising every year, as the league and the sport continue to reach new heights of popularity and visibility. Advertisement But while the 2024 draft class of Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese had at least some competitive balance at the top, 2025 has been the year of guard Paige Bueckers. After recovering from an ACL tear during her second collegiate season in 2021-22, Bueckers rebounded to lead the Connecticut Huskies to a National Title in March -- the prestigious program's first championship in nearly a decade. Approximately two months later, the Dallas Wings made Bueckers the No. 1 pick in the WNBA draft. Since joining the franchise, Bueckers has stood out as easily the most dynamic offensive player of the league's newest rookie class. "Paige Bueckers has dropped 20+ points in back-to-back games, leading the Wings to two straight wins," the "SportsCenter" X account posted on Friday night, June 20. "She now has four 20-point games this season. The rest of the rookie class combined? Also four 😳." Advertisement Bueckers is averaging 17.7 points, 5.7 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals across 10 games played, missing four contests due to a concussion and an illness earlier in the year. The Wings have played 14 games in 2025 and currently own a record of 3-11. However, Dallas is now officially on its first winning streak of the campaign. Bueckers' career-high point total came against the Phoenix Mercury on June 11, when she poured in 35 points in a 93-80 road loss. Approximately 30% of the way into her rookie season, Bueckers is the clear frontrunner to win WNBA Rookie of the Year -- assuming she remains healthy for the majority of campaign. Dallas Wings Make Decision After Unwanted Paige Bueckers Situation

Dallas Wings Make Decision After Unwanted Paige Bueckers Situation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Dallas Wings play for the second-straight night on Saturday as they host the Washington Mystics at College Park Center. The Wings are looking to get back to winning ways after suffering a 94-86 defeat against the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever on Friday. Advertisement Unfortunately for Dallas, they will need to try to do so without the services of Paige Bueckers, who was ruled out for the Mystics game with a knee injury. Bueckers looked fine against Indiana on Friday as she went off for a team-high 27 points, but she will now need to sit out against Washington while nursing a knee issue. The Wings were then left with a crucial decision to make amid the No. 1 overall pick's sudden absence. They took to social media to announce that JJ Quinerly will be taking Bueckers' spot in the starting five. This will be Quinerly's first start of her WNBA career. The rookie, who Dallas selected in the third round of the 2024 WNBA Draft, has averaged 3.3 points and 1.0 assists in 7.2 minutes off the bench this season. Advertisement The team's decision to give Quinerly her first start also comes amid the Wings' injury crisis. DiJonai Carrington (rib) was also ruled out for Saturday's game, while both Maddy Seigrist (right knee) and Tyasha Harris (season-ending knee surgery) remain out with long-term injuries. Luisa Geiselsöder and Teaira McCowan, on the other hand, are both away from the team due to their obligations with their respective national squads. Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers and forward Maddy Siegrist during a game. David Butler II-Imagn Images As for Bueckers, her next chance to suit up would be on Thursday against the Phoenix Mercury. It does not seem like the knee injury is serious, which gives her a good shot at returning for that game. Advertisement In the meantime, Quinerly will want to take advantage of her opportunity, which could potentially become even more significant if Bueckers is forced to miss time again.
