The operation was launched following a tip-off about a group killing a tiger cub and burying the carcass in a forested area near Sarekha Khurd village in Madhya Pradesh.
The six apprehended individuals and seized articles were handed over to the Barghat forest range in Seoni for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, DRI officials said.
Tigers are listed under schedule I of the Act, which strictly prohibits the trade, sale, purchase, or possession of their body parts including nails, bones, and skin.
Earlier, in January 2025, the DRI's Mumbai unit had seized a leopard skin and arrested three persons from Akola district in Maharashtra; in May 2025, the unit had seized two leopard skins and arrested two persons from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, officials said.
'These operations underline the DRI's continued commitment to dismantling wildlife trafficking networks through sustained, intelligence-based enforcement,' an official said, requesting anonymity.
The agency is determined to uphold and enforce legal provisions aimed at safeguarding India's wildlife heritage, the officer added.

LUCKNOW The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday raided the Divisional Railway Manager's (DRM) office at Hazratganj in Lucknow and caught a woman railway official red-handed while accepting a bribe. Sources said three other individuals had also been taken into custody and were being interrogated in connection with the case. (Pic for representation) The accused, Anjum Nisha, a clerk posted in the engineering section of the North Eastern Railway's Lucknow division, is associated with the Gati Shakti project. She allegedly demanded a bribe from a contractor for clearing a pending bill, said sources in the agency. According to agency sources, the CBI had received five complaints alleging corruption in the renovation of small and major railway stations under the project. The estimated budgets ranged from ₹5 crore for minor stations to ₹10 crore for larger ones. Once the complaints were verified, the Delhi-based CBI team, in coordination with their Lucknow counterparts, launched the operation. Mission Gati Shakti is a flagship government initiative aimed at transforming transport infrastructure. The CBI laid a trap, acting on a complaint filed by the contractor. Around 4pm, the contractor handed over an envelope containing cash to Nisha just outside the DRM office. As soon as she accepted the envelope, officials arrested her on the spot. The team remained on the premises until late evening, questioning multiple staff members linked to the project. Sources said three other individuals had also been taken into custody and were being interrogated in connection with the case. The CBI was probing whether a larger bribery network was operating within the Gati Shakti infrastructure division. Railway officials remained tight-lipped and refused to comment on the development.

Delhi High Court reduces convict's jail term from 30 to 20 years in rape case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court has reduced the 30-year jail term handed to a man convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl, cutting it down to 20 years after considering his good conduct in prison. Justice Amit Sharma, in an order dated July 11, noted that the man had been in custody since April 6, 2015, and had served as a safai sahayak (cleaning assistant) while maintaining an overall satisfactory jail record. 'The trial court while sentencing the present appellant for a period of 30 years under Sections 376(2)(i) and (n) of the IPC has recorded that the offence committed by the appellant was heinous in nature and, therefore, the sentence awarded was justified. There is no doubt that the offence committed by the present appellant is extremely grave,' the Court observed, while allowing partial modification of the sentence. The man had approached the High Court challenging the 2013 judgment of the trial court that found him guilty of repeatedly raping a minor girl, who lived in his neighbourhood. The incident came to light when the girl, along with her mother, approached police on April 4, 2015. The girl told police that in December 2014, when no one else was home, the accused came to her house, offered her food, showed her obscene images on his phone and sexually assaulted her. She also alleged that he slapped and threatened her with dire consequences if she revealed the abuse. Later, when the minor experienced stomach pain, her mother took her to a doctor. Medical examination revealed she was pregnant. Doctors advised a medical termination of pregnancy. DNA samples were collected and sent to the forensic science laboratory. Following investigation, the man was convicted under Sections 376(2)(i) and 376(2)(n) (repeated rape of a minor), Section 450 (house trespass), and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code. He was also held guilty under Sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, relating to penetrative sexual assault. However, he was acquitted of the charge of sexual harassment.
