Michigan football's 2026 class grows with 4-star edge rusher Julian Walker

USA Today5 days ago
We can't start every discourse on Michigan football recruiting by saying that the Wolverines are on a heater, can we? Well, we have to because Michigan football recruiting is on a heater. And the locomotive isn't slowing down; it appears to be gaining speed.
One area where the maize and blue have thrived on the 2026 recruiting trail is in the trenches. The offensive line has a ton of promise with four-stars Malakai Lee, Marky Walbridge, and Bear McWhorter pledged, but defensive line recruiting has been on another level. The Wolverines have five-star edge rusher Carter Meadows, four-star edge McHale Blade, four-star tackles Titan Davis and Alister Vallejo, and three-star edge Tariq Boney committed already. What's one more four-star edge rusher?
Thought to be a strong South Carolina lean due to his father being on the strength staff in Columbia, Irmo (S.C.) Dutch Fork four-star edge rusher Julian Walker shocked the college football world when he chose Michigan football over the Gamecocks.
Walker visited Ann Arbor for Victors Weekend on June 20 and thus completes the picture he posted emanating from that weekend's photoshoot, featuring him, Tariq Boney, Carter Meadows, and Titan Davis. He was also strongly considering North Carolina and USC, and had offers from Auburn, Kentucky, Syracuse, NC State, Virginia Tech, and others.
Scouting report and ranking
Here's the scouting report from 247Sports' Clint Brewster:
Walker possesses great overall size and length that correlates well to the next level as a 3-4 defensive lineman. He has fluid movements to get past the offensive tackle from both inside and outside rushes. Chases the ball with a great motor and can turn and flatten down the line of scrimmage. Plays with reactive quickness and has a counter move. Walker has the strength and toughness to be disruptive against the run and make plays as a true 3-down player. Depending on body type and how he develops, Walker could potentially move inside on passing downs.
Walker is listed at 6-foot-6, 252 pounds and is ranked highest by On3, which has him at No. 136 overall, regardless of position.
The rest of the class
With Walker in the fold, the Wolverines only really have one defensive line target remaining in Suwanee (Ga.) Collins Hill four-star defensive tackle Deuce Geralds.
All rankings by the 247Sports Composite
Michigan is hoping to get good news throughout the week, with other players such as cornerback Donovan Webb, wide receivers Travis Johnson and Calvin Russell, offensive lineman John Turntine III, and cornerback Dorian Barney deciding.

Bill Belichick's Age-Gap Romance With Jordon Hudson Is Turning Into a 'PR Nightmare' at His New Job

Jordon Hudson can't seem to stay out of the headlines even though she's not the one who was hired by University of North Carolina (UNC) to coach their football team. That job is reserved for her boyfriend, former NFL coach Bill Belichick, who just happens to be 48 years older than her. The 24-year-old beauty queen seems to have a knack for drawing controversy and is now being described as a 'public relations nightmare' for the 73-year-old coach. More from SheKnows Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher's Romantic Getaway Sends a Message After Public Backlash The backlash at UNC is being felt across the board as the school is being pressured to let Belichick go by alumni donors and faculty members. The Daily Mail obtained emails via a public records request, and the messages are quite pointed. One donor wrote angrily, 'What a total embarrassment to UNC. I am withdrawing all my donations and future donations.' Another email from faculty member Christopher McLaughlin, a professor of Public Law and Government, to UNC Athletics Director Bubba Cunningham, argued about the unwanted attention Hudson was drawing to the program. 'When you agreed to pay a king's ransom to hire Bill Belichick, did you also know that you [were] hiring Jordon Hudson to serve as the primary face of [UNC] athletics? Normally, I would say the University should not concern itself with its employees' personal lives,' McLaughlin wrote. 'But when a prominent employee injects his significant other into the University's affairs, it becomes the University's concern. The staff member went on to describe Hudson as 'an embarrassment' while begging the school's athletic director to 'please end this circus before the season begins.' Hudson also became a hot topic in April when she interrupted Belichick's CBS Sunday Morning interview with Tony Dokoupil. 'We're not talking about this,' she said from off-camera when the reporter asked her boyfriend about their romantic origin story. Their ties are both personal and professional because Hudson is listed as the Chief Operating Officer of Belichick Productions and CEO & Founder of Trouble Cub Enterprises, per LinkedIn, and not everyone likes that. 'I think it's ironic that a man who really controlled everything — and I mean everything — now is being controlled by some other person,' said Upton Bell, a former general manager of the Patriots, told The New York Times on May 20. 'You can't just point at the woman here and say, 'She is being controlling. That only happens if you let yourself be controlled.' UNC's first football game of the season is Sept. 1, and Hudson is expected to be rooting for Belichick from the of SheKnows Amber Heard's Entire Dating History: Johnny Depp, Elon Musk, & More 11 of Prince William & Kate Middleton's Biggest Relationship Controversies 13 Celebrities Who Secretly Welcomed Children During Affairs

Sixers free agency grades after signing Trendon Watford, Jabari Walker

It has been a quiet free agency period so far for the Philadelphia 76ers. Not armed with a ton of cap space, the Sixers have made smaller moves to improve depth and help around the margins as they move forward with their championship quest. So far, the Sixers have done the following in free agency: Not exactly moves that are on the same level as the moves made in 2024 when they brought in Paul George, but solid moves nonetheless. Philadelphia needed some depth and versatility, especially, after losing Guerschon Yabusele to the New York Knicks, and these moves do that. Here is a grade for each move made in free agency: Trendon Watford There is a lot to like about Watford's game. He can dribble, pass, get to the basket, and make an impact once he gets into the paint and draws attention from defenders. He is also athletic enough to make things happen on the defensive end and help the Sixers get out in transition. He will play a role for Philadelphia without Yabusele, but one has to wonder about his 3-point shot. The perimeter jumper is so paramount in today's NBA and while Watford can keep defenders honest, he only shot 33% from deep in 2024-25. Final grade: B-minus Eric Gordon A lot of people will criticize the move to bring back Gordon, but on a vet minimum, he is a positive player to keep in the locker room. He can still knock down the 3-ball--he shot 40.9% from deep in the 39 games he played in 2024-25--and he has a wealth of knowledge and experience to lend to the youngsters. For example, rookie VJ Edgecombe will benefit greatly from Gordon as they have a history together from playing on the Bahamian national team. Gordon will serve as Edgecombe's vet while playing sparingly and knocking down an open 3 when the opportunity arises. Final grade: B Jabari Walker Getting Walker on a two-way deal is insane value. The talent in this league is at an all-time high and the Sixers were able to get a good one in Walker. A former second-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers, Walker is a rotational player in this league. He is a great rebounder, can knock down a corner 3, and provides a ton of hustle and energy. With Yabusele gone, there is a chance that Walker will earn a rotation spot in Philadelphia which would then lead to a standard contract--which is what he should have anyway. Final grade: A

After SEC visits, 4-star WR Xavier McDonald picks Sacramento State

Sacramento State head coach Brennan Marion reached into Southeastern Conference territory and plucked a surprise commitment from four-star wide receiver Xavier McDonald. McDonald, from Morton, Miss., is the highest commit in the history of the Hornets program. He committed to the school on Friday. McDonald had offers from numerous Power Four conference schools, and on June 27, he released the list of his final four: Sacramento State, North Carolina, LSU and Ole Miss. He took official visits to three of them, substituting a visit to Mississippi State for a North Carolina visit. The 247Sports composite ranks him as the No. 16 wide receiver in the country. The offensive-minded Marion was named head coach of the Hornets last December after two seasons as offensive coordinator at UNLV. Sacramento State is in the midst of an upgrade to its athletic program. It is building a multipurpose stadium and has secured more than $35 million in NIL funding. The Hornets have added former Sacramento Kings player Mike Bibby as their basketball coach and Basketball Hall of Fame member Shaquille O'Neal as the general manager. Sacramento State football is an FCS-level program that plays in the Big Sky Conference. During the 2026-27 academic season, all teams except football will move to the Big West Conference. Per the 247Sports composite, Sacramento State has the No. 56 recruiting class of 2026, sandwiched between South Carolina of the SEC and Wake Forest of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
