Rio Olympic champion Thomas Rohler was left in awe after seeing the love for Javelin in India after taking part in the Neeraj Chopra Classic on Saturday, July 5. Rohler didn't have the best of outings, as he finished 11th in the overall standings with Neeraj taking the top spot with an 86.18 m throw in Bengaluru in tricky weather conditions. advertisementOne of the most striking features of the day was to see a big crowd turn up for the first-of-its-kind event. Close to 15,000 people turned out for the NC Classic and Rohler was thrilled to see the love for the sport of Javelin in India. Speaking to India Today in an exclusive interview after the event, the German said it was a unique spectacle and he had never seen such a response before. '15,000 people for only javelin is unique. To be honest, I have never seen something like this.'Rio Olympic champion Thomas Rohler tells @IndiaToday after #NeerajChopraClassicNeeraj Chopra won, so did Bengaluru. It's unique, to be honest, I've never seen it," said Rohler.
The night saw some strong winds at the Kanteerva stadium, which challenged the athletes on Saturday. Rohler said it was changing winds and it forced the athletes to adjust with each and every throw. The 2016 Olympic champion said it was a challenging event, but it was fun to throw. Neeraj Chopra Classic Highlights"It was changing winds, not only in the rows, but also like in the single attempts. So this is why all athletes needed to really adjust each and every throw. This is why it was not so predictable. You saw javelins start well, and then they dipped and you needed to pick the right javelin at the right time, the right angle. It was a challenging throwing event, but it was really fun to throw," said Rohler. 'Neeraj did a good job as the host'The event was something that was close to Neeraj's heart as he was the host of the competition. Rohler said that the Indian star did a really good job and took good care of the athletes who were present for the event. "He did a really good job. He took care of us. He was taking care of the whole hospitality. He was making sure every phone was doing alright, the food was good and all these things and he invested a lot of energy, which is not something you should be taken for granted as an athlete, and he invested the time and the effort and the energy," said Rohler. - EndsMust Watch

Shubman Gill's Declaration Act To Land BCCI In Legal Trouble?

Last Updated: Shubman Gill, India's Test captain, wore a Nike vest during the second Test at Edgbaston. Fans are wondering if it's a possible breach of BCCI's contract with Adidas. News18 Shubman Gill drew a lot of 'aura' points for his first-ever declaration gesture as India's Test captain on Saturday (July 5) during the Edgbaston Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, but now, fans on social media are wondering if the moment can land him in trouble with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It happened during the 83rd over of India's second innings. The team seemed determined to bat as long as they could, despite there being just over three sessions left in the match. But as soon as the drinks break was called, Gill appeared in his black Nike vest to beckon Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja back. But there's the issue: the Nike vest! The BCCI is in a contract with Nike's direct competitor, Adidas, until March 2028, which grants the German brand exclusive rights to manufacture kits for men's, women's, and youth teams across formats. Fans are now wondering whether this was a breach of contract. One user said, 'using nike while our brand ambassador is adidas….shame on gill hope bcci takes action👍" Another mentioned, 'Gill's nike picture going viral may not be a good thing for him, not only did he not endorse their jersey sponsor, he went ahead and wore their competitor plastered across his chest😭😭 there might be sanctions and warnings. Yes, it is a HUGE deal." Another user wrote, 'Looks like Shubman Gill just gave Adidas a Rs.250 crore masterclass in 'Just Do It" with Nike! 😂" Adidas paid BCCI ₹ 250 crores for a sponsorship Indian captain walks out to the balcony, wearing not the adidas jersey, but a NIKE T-SHIRT. — Aman (@AmanHasNoName_2) July 6, 2025 BCCI's Adidas partnership began in June 2023, with the Indian team debuting their new Adidas kits during the World Test Championship Finals. The deal is reportedly worth ₹75 lakh per match, with the overall value estimated to be between ₹250 to 300 crore. Gill, meanwhile, has been Nike's brand ambassador for a few months now. It's estimated that the deal runs in several crores. First Published:

Faith Kipyegon sets 1,500 world record at the Prefontaine Classic

Kenyan Faith Kipyegon set a world record in the 1,500 meters on Saturday at the Prefontaine Classic, finishing in 3 minutes, 48.68 seconds. Kipyegon, a three-time Olympic champion in the event, bested her own record of 3:49.04, set last July before the Paris Games. Kipyegon, 31, sprinted alone down the stretch cheered by the sellout crowd at Hayward Field. After crossing the finish line, she wrapped herself in the Kenyan flag. Ethiopian Diribe Welteji was second in 3:51.44, Australian Jessica Hull, who was the silver medalist behind Kipyegon at the Olympics last year, was third in 3:52.67. 'To be honest, the ladies are pushing me too because they are running quick now and I'm happy that when I broke a world record, they are all running very fast, and that is what I wanted, to motivate the younger generation to come and do even better. For them to follow me, it feels so great that they are pushing me as well to break records,' Kipyegon said. Last month Kipyegon failed in a bid to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes. She ran 4:06.42 — the fastest mile in history by a woman — at Stade Charlety in Paris. 'I think the changes were that I was preparing myself for something special, which was to run under four minutes in a mile and I think I pushed myself, getting better and better toward the 1,500, so I knew it was possible to still run under 3:49,' she said. Kipyegon also has won the 1,500 at the last three World Championships. She was second in the 5,000 at the Paris Olympics last summer.
