(Reuters) -Celtic have signed Scotland left back Kieran Tierney from Arsenal on a five-year contract, the Scottish Premiership champions said on Tuesday.
The 28-year-old, who made his senior debut at Celtic in 2015, will be back at the club after six years. He made 170 appearances for the Scottish club, scoring eight goals before joining Arsenal in 2019.
"Everybody's known for a few months and just to be here with the Celtic strip on again just feels amazing," Tierney said.
"... When you move away from home, you grow up, you learn different things. I was in Spain (with Real Sociedad on loan) for a year, learning a different language and playing in a different league, so I'm definitely a different person.
"My ambition is just for Celtic to be as successful as possible, retain our place at the top and continue to win trophies and do well for Celtic."

Klopp: Club World Cup is ‘worst idea ever implemented in football'

LONDON, June 29 — Former Liverpool boss Jürgen Klopp has expressed concern about the Club World Cup, suggesting it is the 'worst idea ever implemented in football'. The new-look 32-team tournament started earlier this month, with the final taking place at the MetLife Stadium in New York on July 13, reported PA Media/dpa news. The Premier League resumes a month later, with Liverpool kicking off their title defence in the opening game of the season against Bournemouth on August 15. Klopp has previously spoken about issues such as fixture congestion and in an interview with German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, he suggested the Club World Cup will not provide any 'real recovery' for those players involved. 'It's all about the game and not the surrounding events – and that's why the Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football in this regard,' Klopp said. 'People who have never had or do not have anything to do with day-to-day business any more are coming up with something. 'There is insane money for participating, but it's also not for every club. 'Last year it was the Copa (America) and the European Championship, this year it's the Club World Cup, and next year the World Cup. That means no real recovery for the players involved, neither physically nor mentally.' After leaving his role as Reds boss last summer, Klopp became Red Bull's head of global soccer at the start of 2025. He added: 'I have serious fears that players will suffer injuries they've never had before next season. If not next season, then it will happen at the World Cup or afterwards. 'We constantly expect the players to go into every game as if it were their last. We tell them that 70 or 75 times a year. But it can't go on like this. 'We have to make sure they have breaks, because if they don't get them, they won't be able to deliver top performances — and if they can't achieve that anymore, the entire product loses value.' — Bernama-PA Media/dpa

Soccer-FIFA's Wenger promises better pitch quality at 2026 World Cup

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Champions League - Semi Final - First Leg - Arsenal v Paris Saint Germain - Emirates Stadium, London, Britain - April 29, 2025 Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger before the match Action Images via Reuters/Andrew Couldridge/File Photo MIAMI (Reuters) -FIFA's Global Football Development chief Arsene Wenger acknowledged that the quality of pitches hosting Club World Cup matches in the U.S. was not good enough, but insisted it would be better when the country co-hosts the 2026 World Cup. The pitches, often very dry and sprinkled with water during cooling breaks or at halftime, have been widely criticised, mainly by coaches and players of the European teams taking part. "I've been personally on the pitch at Orlando," former Arsenal manager Wenger said on Saturday. "It's not at the level that the European clubs are used to because it's not perfect, but that will be rectified for the World Cup next year." Paris St Germain coach Luis Enrique raised the issue early in the expanded Club World Cup tournament. "The ball bounces like a rabbit," Luis Enrique said after his team's opening 4-0 win over Atletico Madrid. "Today, for example, the field used to be artificial turf, and now it's natural grass laid over it, which means it has to be watered manually. It's a big problem for the way we play." "FIFA really needs to take this seriously. Not just the stadium fields but also the training pitches. If we're calling this the best club tournament in the world, it should have world‑class facilities. I can't imagine an NBA game played on a court full of holes." Former English football star Michael Owen scores twice in Manchester United Legends win against Vietnam

HANOI (VNEXpress-Vetam News): Michael Owen, the 2001 Ballon d'Or winner, scored twice as Manchester United Reds (MU Legends) defeated Vietnam All Stars 4-2 in a friendly match in Da Nang on Friday night (June 27). The match took place at 7pm at Hoa Xuan Stadium and was the highlight of the Vietnam-U.K. Football Festival, which ran from June 26 to 29. The event featured football legends from Manchester United's golden generation, including Michael Owen, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Teddy Sheringham, Wes Brown, and Dwight Yorke. In the 7th minute, Owen opened the scoring with a brilliant chip shot over Vietnam goalkeeper Nguyen Van Sy, after receiving a precise pass from a teammate. Owen completed his double 20 minutes later, converting a penalty after being fouled in the box by Van Sy. Giggs, wearing the captain's armband, celebrated with Owen after his second goal. The Welsh football legend is known for his long and successful career at Man Utd with 13 Premier League titles. Although Giggs, at 51, did not put on a show in this match, he was pivotal in coordinating the team's play. Scholes, who also spent his entire career with United, showed his famous passing range and tactical vision, which made him one of the best English midfielders of his time. Despite being 2-0 down, Vietnam fought back with determination. Striker Nguyen Van Quyet skillfully dribbled past Dwight Yorke but was unable to score. Van Quyet was the most active player for Vietnam, creating several opportunities. He frequently found himself in front of the Man Utd goal but was stopped by the keeper or missed the target. Early in the second half, former Vietnam striker Le Huynh Duc dribbled past several defenders and fired a clever shot into the near corner, reducing the deficit to 2-1. Vietnam's spirit increased after the goal, with midfielder Nguyen Hai Long creating more chances. However, Long missed a one-on-one situation against the goalkeeper. MU legends responded with two more goals. The crowd erupted in excitement as the away team displayed their class. Near the end of the match, 2008 AFF Cup champion Nguyen Viet Thang scored for Vietnam, bringing the score to 4-2, which is also the final result. Last year, Vietnam All Stars played a friendly against Brazil, suffering a heavy 1-7 defeat. Owen, who left the pitch early in the second half, returned to wear the captain's armband until the end of the match. He spent time interacting with the Vietnam players after the final whistle. The MU legends also signed balls and jerseys for fans. There were nearly 10,000 spectators who attended the match at Hoa Xuan Stadium, which has a capacity of 20,000. - VNExpress/Vietnam News
