Yahooa day ago

The Pineville Police Department has arrested a man accused of barging into an elderly couple's home, raping one of them and then setting the house on fire, all one week after he released from jail while on parole in another case, according to a news release.
Calvin Michael Williams Jr., 30, was booked into the Rapides Parish Detention Center #1 on Wednesday. Online jail records don't reflect any charges other than a parole violation, for which he's being held without bail.

But the department's news release states Williams, a Pineville resident, was arrested on two counts of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of false imprisonment with a dangerous weapon, two counts of aggravated assault and one count each of first-degree rape, aggravated burglary, home invasion, obstruction of justice and arson.
The department had issued a plea to the public for help finding the person responsible for the June 20 incident in the 100 block of Hilton Court.
"During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the suspect entered the home armed with a handgun, robbed the elderly homeowners, and demanded both money and firearms," reads the release. "In the course of this violent encounter, the suspect sexually assaulted one of the victims and intentionally set the home on fire, before fleeing the scene."
Chief Roy Fore said the "heinous and unspeakable act of violence has deeply impacted our community. We will utilize every available resource to ensure this individual is held accountable for his actions."

Conor McGregor's appeal to begin in civil assault case

Conor McGregor's appeal against a decision in a civil case in which a woman accused him of raping her is due to begin. Former hairdresser Nikita Hand, 35, sued the mixed martial arts fighter over an incident at a south Dublin hotel in December 2018. He was said to have 'brutally raped and battered' Ms Hand in a penthouse at the Beacon Hotel. During a three-week case at the High Court in Dublin last November, McGregor told the court he had consensual sex with Ms Hand. After six hours and 10 minutes of deliberating, the jury of eight women and four men found McGregor civilly liable for assault. Ms Hand was awarded 248,603.60 euro (about £206,000) in damages. McGregor was ordered by a judge to pay Ms Hand 100,000 euro (£85,000) of the damages and 200,000 euro (£170,000) of an expected 1.3 million euro (£1.1 million) in legal costs before the appeal, which the court heard had been done. Ms Hand, also known as Nikita Ni Laimhin, lost her case against another man, James Lawrence, who she accused of assaulting her by allegedly having sex without her consent at the same hotel. On Tuesday morning, the Court of Appeal in Dublin is to hear new evidence in support of McGregor's appeal.

Man, 92, to be sentenced for rape and murder of woman in 1967

A 92-year-old man is to be sentenced after being convicted of the rape and murder of an elderly widow in 1967. Ryland Headley was found guilty of both charges by a jury at Bristol Crown Court on Monday afternoon, in what is thought to be the UK's longest-running cold case to be solved. He was 34 when he forced open a window at the home of Louisa Dunne, 75, in the Easton area of Bristol in June 1967 before attacking her. Mrs Dunne, a mother-of-two, was found dead by neighbours in the front room of her terraced home in Britannia Road on the morning of June 28. A pathologist concluded that Mrs Dunne died from asphyxia due to strangulation and pressure on her mouth, probably from a hand being held over it. Bristol Constabulary, as the force was then, launched a huge investigation, taking the palm prints of 19,000 men and boys in an attempt to find a match to one left on an upstairs window. But the case remained unsolved for more than 50 years until Avon and Somerset Police detectives sent items from the original investigation for DNA testing for the first time. Semen recovered from a blue skirt worn by Mrs Dunne matched Headley's DNA to a ratio that meant it was a billion times more likely to be from him than anybody else. When his left palm print was finally taken, in November last year, it matched the print left at the scene. Since Mrs Dunne's murder, Headley had moved his family to Ipswich, where he was jailed for raping two elderly women after forcing open windows at their homes in October 1977. Headley, of Clarence Road, Ipswich, denied Mrs Dunne's rape and murder but was found guilty by a jury after nine hours and 53 minutes of deliberations. Mr Justice Sweeting will sentence him on Tuesday morning.

Detroit mother of 4-year-old boy killed in park shooting speaks out: "They robbed my baby of so much"

After a 4-year-old boy was shot and killed while spending the evening at a playground in Detroit, his mother is speaking out to get justice for her son. "They robbed my baby of so much, they robbed me of so much," said Jasmine Grubbs. Grubbs says that on Friday, she loaded up the car and brought her children to Skinner Playfield to enjoy her night off with her family. As they arrived, Grubbs says her 4-year-old son Samir couldn't wait to start playing. "He was the first one out of the car; he was just running over there," said Grubbs. Moments later, everything changed. "As soon as I hit the end button, […] this coward just started shooting," said Grubbs. Grubbs says she originally couldn't figure out what was happening or where the bullets were coming from. "It sounded kind of like it was far and close at the same time. I just told everyone, 'Get down, get down,'" she said. Once it became quiet, she thought things had gone back to normal until she couldn't find Samir. "My baby ran over there to get his brother, and he said, 'Mama, he won't get up. He won't get up,'" said Grubbs. Grubbs says what followed is still a blur, seeing Samir and another boy lying on the playground. "I felt so helpless, I wanted to help both of them, but I didn't even have enough strength to carry my own baby," she said. She rushed her son to the hospital herself, hoping he would pull through, and said she would never forget the moment he passed. "It just took my soul, like my soul just left," she said. Grubbs says that pain brought her to speak at the launch of "Protect The Zone" on Monday, hoping to push other parents and politicians to fight for their kids. "Actions speak louder than words. The only way you will get my vote for anything from this day forward is this: you're going to have to make a change," said Grubbs. It's a change she says she plans to see through in honor of her son.
