72 Sabah dilapidated school upgrades completed

Published on: Sunday, August 03, 2025 Published on: Sun, Aug 03, 2025 By: Patimang Abdul Ghani Text Size: PITAS: Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said 72 of 111 dilapidated school upgrade projects in Sabah have been completed at a cost of RM359 million, with 37 more worth RM631 million under construction. One project worth RM12.6 million is in the design stage and another worth RM54 million is at the procurement stage, bringing the total to nearly RM1 billion. During a visit to SMK Pinggan-Pinggan in Pitas, Ahmad said all works are via open tender to ensure timely or early completion. The RM27 million SMK Pinggan-Pinggan project, 78pc complete, includes two hostel blocks, warden houses, a dining hall for 400 students, and support facilities. The new hostel, to be completed in December 2025, will replace one located 1.3km away, which forces students to walk along busy roads without pedestrian paths. Ahmad said it will improve safety, reduce absenteeism, and provide better living conditions. He added that these projects reflect the Madani government's commitment to improving rural education infrastructure and narrowing the urban-rural education gap. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal integrated maintenance postponed

KOTA KINABALU (Aug 2): The temporary shutdown for scheduled maintenance at the Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT) has been postponed to a date that will be determined later. According to the Chief Executive Officer of ECoS, Datuk Ir. Abdul Nasser Abdul Wahid, 'the postponement at SOGT was made after taking into account the current situation of the Sabah Grid and the additional time needed to complete the testing of Independent Power. Producer (IPP) power generation units in Kimanis using an alternative diesel fuel, in addition to ongoing repair works at other power plants owned by Sabah Electricity and IPPs.' He added that the decision was made after assessing the risk of power supply disruptions to the Sabah Grid based on current conditions, compared to the impact of delaying the maintenance work at SOGT. 'This aims to ensure that consumers in Sabah and Labuan are not affected by power supply rationing,' he said in a statement on Saturday. The integrated maintenance work at SOGT was initially scheduled from August 1 to 7 before it was postponed to August 5 to 11 and then to a date that will be determined later.
