Comedian Marc Maron shares eye-watering amount Taylor Swift charged him to sing one of her songs
Comedian Marc Maron has revealed he shelled out tens of thousands of dollars to include a Taylor Swift song in his stand up she. The 61-year-old comic sought permission to sing one of the chart-topping star's songs during a recent gig.
Fans who have attended one Marc's stand-up concerts may have heard him sing 35-year-old Taylor's song Bigger Than the Whole Sky from her 2022 album Midnights. But being allowed to sing the song cost a pretty penny - adding to Swift's already considerable fortune.
Reports have suggested she became a billionaire thanks to her monumental Eras World Tour. However, she did dig deep recently to buy back masters of her own songs which had been sold in a 2019 sale.
Marc was happy to throw a casual $50,000 (£37,000) Taylor's way after he realised he wanted to sing her song while on stage. And he also revealed he was cleared to sing just one minute of the song for this amount - or else he would have to pay more.
Opening up to Vulture, the comedian said: "I think it came out to $50K, around that. I did everything I could to get the joke in front of her." He went on to explain he first approached musician Jack Antonoff, who has collaborated with Taylor on a number of her albums.
He said: "I know Jack Antonoff enough to text him — and he's the cowriter on that song. I said, 'I don't know what's proper or how to do this, but we're running out of money on this thing. It's probably going to come out of my pocket. Is there anything you can do about this song or talk to Taylor?'"
Jack then sent Marc to the right channels to negotiate a deal - where he was told to cough up $50K. He said: "It was doable. We made enough money. It was tight, but because of the ticket... If I would have gone over the minute, it would have been more money.
"We couldn't even let it, like, play out the special or anything. So, I got together with a band and wrote that music as the opening and closing. Yeah, it was under a minute."
But he also explained that he "had" to include the track as he felt the themes of loss were too close to his heart to ignore.
He insisted: "It had to happen. The real fear is, like, she doesn't let you use it, and then what do you do? You can't do the bit on the special. That's why I was, like, [manifesting] 'I think she'll like the bit.'"
Taylor is hardly shy of money herself - and it was reported in May that she bought back the masters of her first six albums for a reported $360 million (£267 million) after rival Scooter Braun bought them in 2019 for a reported $300 million (£223 million).
Gushing to her fans about her purchase, the star said in a written note published on her official website: "I'm trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow.
'A flashback sequence of all the time I daydreamed about, wished for, and pined away for a chance to get to tell this news. All the times I was thiiiiiiiiiiis close, reaching out for it, only for it to fall through.
'I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then yanked away. But that's all in the past now. I've been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found that this is really happening. I really get to say those words.
'All of the music I've ever made … now belongs… to me.'

Parents who named their daughter ‘Kelce Taylor' get trolled but insist it has nothing to do with Taylor Swift & Travis
CHOOSING the perfect name for your little one isn't always easy, and it's common for parents to draw inspiration from their favourite musicians, athletes and celebs. But one couple have defended naming their newborn daughter after Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift despite "super negative" claims they did it for attention. 3 3 Haley Richardson, 26, a stay-at-home mom, and Robert Dillon, 34, a delivery driver, welcomed Kelce Taylor-Grace on July 24 at The University of Kansas Health System's Liberty Hospital, weighing 7lbs 7oz. Haley and Robert from Richmond, Missouri, say the name honors family traditions and reflects admiration for Kelce and Swift's character - not their celebrity. But online haters have hit out at the couple after the name was shared online by Liberty Hospital subjecting the family to unexpected scrutiny and accusations they named their child purely for attention or to receive gifts from the famous couple. But the couple insist they never sought fame or gifts, and just wanted to share a joyful moment in their lives. "With her name going viral, some people are just super negative, saying we did this for attention," Robert said. "But in the original post that Liberty Hospital shared, our names weren't in it, our faces weren't in it. He added: "It was simply about her and her name, almost like just a birth announcement." The engaged couple emphasized they never sought material gain from their naming choice. "We haven't received a thing, we haven't asked for a thing, we don't want anything," Robert said. "Our goal wasn't to get possessions. It was just to share a moment in our lives that we thought people would think was cool." Mo Gilligan's Secret Son Revealed – New Baby on the Way Haley added: "People keep saying she's named after the couple, and while she may have the couple's names, that wasn't ever the intention. "Kelce Taylor flows well and is really pretty as a name in general." Robert's two sons from a previous relationship -10 and 6 - both also have five-letter names starting with K. Additionally, Haley incorporated her middle name, Grace, into her daughter's hyphenated middle name. "We're not super fans of Travis and Taylor as a couple," Haley said. "We are huge fans of them as individuals because of the work they do in the community and the philanthropic work that makes them genuinely good human beings." The couple hopes their daughter will embody these same qualities of generosity and kindness. "I just want her to be kind, show compassion, have empathy for people, and know that every time she goes somewhere, try and leave that place better when she leaves than when she walked through the door," Robert added. Despite a challenging pregnancy which included gestational diabetes and preeclampsia, Haley describes Kelce as "a really super sweet, easy baby" who is "pretty chill". The new parents are looking forward to raising their daughter in the Kansas City area. As for the rumors that Kelce and Swift have reached out or sent gifts to the family, Robert dismissed them. "There's a bunch of fake news articles out there saying they've sent us gifts. We haven't heard from them, nor have we received anything," he said. Haley hopes her daughter will learn an important lesson from her namesakes. "Taylor and Travis don't do their philanthropic work or charity work to get attention. They do it because it's what they want to do," she said. "I want her to know that not everything good that you do has to be announced to the world, and you can do things in the quiet without expecting anything in return." The struggle of choosing a baby name CHLOE Morgan, a Senior Writer at Fabulous, has revealed her dilemma on choosing a baby name... At 35 weeks pregnant, by far the trickiest part of pregnancy for me in the past few months (minus the insomnia and countless night-time wee breaks!) has been trying to decide on a baby name. The dilemmas are endless... My partner and I went for a private scan to find out the gender as early as we could - partly due to the fact we thought it would make baby naming so much easier because we'd only have to come up with a list of names for one gender rather than two. How wrong we were... I was absolutely thrilled to be told I was expecting the baby girl I'd already dreamed of, but being one of the last of my friends to fall pregnant, I've had countless conversations over the years with excited pals discussing their top baby which I wish I could go back in time and un-hear. With each friend mentioning at least 10 possible monikers, I can't help but feel like several are now a no-go even though I know it's something that none of them would mind in the slightest - it's a total me problem! The debate comes up time and time again on social media forums - can you choose the same name that was a "potential" for a friend's baby? It's a very divisive topic and opinions are always I don't want to be THAT person. While some will argue there's thousands of other names out there to choose from, others will say you need to choose YOUR all, there's no guarantee that person will even have another baby. Then there's also the issue of finding a name you to research it online and read one negative comment amongst hundreds of positives that you just can't shake off. I made that very mistake when I fell in love with a certain name (I won't reveal it because I don't want to ruin it for others!) ...only to see someone point out that it constantly gets autocorrected on a phone to something rather rude instead. So, back to the drawing board we went.. Just five weeks to go and it looks like our little one is going to be known as 'baby gal' for a little while longer!

Folk singer first and only person to be mauled to death by 'freak' coyotes on hike
Taylor Mitchell was a talented folk singer who was brutally attacked by a pack of coyotes while hiking in Canada. The 19-year-old was the first ever adult to die from a coyote attack At just 19 years old, Taylor Mitchell became the first adult ever to tragically lose her life in a fatal coyote attack while hiking on a popular trail in Canada, leaving experts puzzled over how such an incident could have occurred. Taylor, who aspired to be a professional folk singer, had released her debut album, For Your Consideration. This would sadly be the last music she would ever produce. After a busy summer filled with performances, she decided to set off on a small tour of Eastern Canada, equipped with her new car and driver's license. However, when she hit the road, neither the teenager nor her family could have anticipated she wouldn't return home. Eager for an adventure, Taylor arrived at the Skyline Trail, the most frequented walk in Cape Breton Highlands National Park, which attracts up to 25,000 visitors annually. Despite being appropriately dressed, carrying no food in her backpack, and it being broad daylight, Taylor was one of the extremely unfortunate ones to be attacked by a pack of wild coyotes. She was discovered on the Nova Scotia trail shortly after the attack, but tragically, it was already too late, reports the Mirror. Four fellow hikers stumbled upon Mitchell during the attack and did everything they could to fend off the coyotes while she lay critically injured. Strangely enough, Taylor was seen both before and after the attack, but there were no witnesses to the actual mauling. After hearing distant screams, a group of hikers were confronted with Taylor's horrific situation. Moments after hearing her desperate cries, they walked along the access road and began to discover her personal belongings. Keys and a small knife were found on the ground before they stumbled upon torn and bloodied clothing, along with large pools of blood, all belonging to the 19 year old girl. Shortly thereafter, at 3:25pm, the strangers discovered Taylor's body lying nearby, with a coyote standing over her. She was still conscious and able to communicate with the group that found her while they awaited medical assistance. Paramedics managed to transport her to the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre in Chéticamp, where she remained in critical condition and was soon airlifted to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre. Tragically, despite the tireless efforts of the medical teams, Taylor succumbed to her injuries due to blood loss later that evening, on October 27, 2009. Her tragic death left experts puzzled as to what prompted the coyotes to attack her, having seen no reports or issues with the animals in the park prior to the incident. They decided to conduct some tests to understand the factors behind such a horror and discovered that the coyotes were in fact eastern coyotes carrying a wolf gene, but the extent to which this contributed to Taylor Mitchell's death remains unknown. An obituary has been crafted to celebrate the life of Taylor, lovingly prepared by her sister Emily Mitchell. The tribute on the website reads: "Wise beyond her years and an environmentalist at a very early age, Taylor understood the unbreakable connection between animal and human life and was involved with various causes for habitat conservation. "Taylor, whose musical star was on the rise, had a break during her first Maritimes tour and was doing what she loved-spending time in nature's fold-when the attack occurred." Since the tragic incident in 2009, there have been no further reports of adults succumbing to fatal coyote attacks.
