MP explains the features and functioning of parliamentary democracy

Over 300 students from across the region participated in the inaugural session of 'Young Indians Parliament 2.0', a civic awareness programme organised by the Tiruchi chapter of Young Indians (Yi) under the auspices of the Confederation of Indian Industry, on Friday.
The two-day programme, held under Yi's 'Thalir' initiative, was inaugurated at Shrimati Indira Gandhi College on Friday by DMK Rajya Sabha Member Tiruchi N. Siva. Pradeep Chenthilkumar, Yi Entrepreneurship joint national chair, and Praveen Krishnakumar, Yi Tiruchi chapter chair, were present.
Mr. Siva explained the history of Indian Parliament, structure and types of parliamentary proceedings, and key differences between the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. He elaborated on how bills are introduced and passed, the functioning of Zero Hour, and the distinction between policies and laws. Students were captivated by his insights and experiences from within parliament, especially his involvement in key bills and debates over his tenure.
In an interactive session, the MP responded to a variety of career-oriented, leadership-focused, and policy-related queries posed by students.
The valedictory session on Saturday will be addressed by Tiruchi MP Durai Vaiko.
The Yi Young Indians Parliament is a flagship platform for experiential learning, enabling students to actively engage with themes such as governance, sustainability, entrepreneurship, and citizen leadership.

To instil democratic values, leadership qualities, and public speaking skills among school students, a two-day event titled Young Indians Parliament was recently organised by the CII Young Indians (Yi) Erode Chapter. Over 200 students from various schools actively took on the roles of Parliamentarians, engaging in lively debates and discussions that mirrored real legislative proceedings. This immersive experience offered them a deeper understanding of democratic practices, Parliamentary etiquette, and the importance of respectful dialogue. The valedictory session was attended by MPs K.E. Prakash (Erode) and Ganapathy P. Rajkumar (Coimbatore), along with A.K. Ilango, correspondent of Kongu Engineering College, and V. Balusamy, principal. Awards were presented to students who excelled in debate, leadership, and participation. A press release stated that the Yi Parliament initiative had emerged as a powerful platform to inspire young minds, foster civic engagement, and empower the next generation to become responsible, informed, and proactive citizens.
