NAPOLI midfielder Scott McTominay is in the top five most influential players in his position in world football.
That's according to the latest CIES Football Observatory report, which monitors 60 leagues around the world.

The 28-year-old has had a remarkable first season in Italy, helping to fire Napoli to their fourth scudetto and winning the league's Most Valuable Player award.
Few would have imagined he would have achieved this level of success last summer, when he was deemed surplus to requirements at Manchester United and joined Napoli in a £25 million deal.
And this index score from the CIES perhaps just underlines his impressive statistics.
Each score a player receives is based on six performance areas including: aerial play, defence, distribution, take on, chance creation and finishing.
The amount of minutes played and results are also taken into consideration.
McTominay has an index score of 88.1, putting him in the top five attacking midfielders.
That means he is rubbing shoulders with the likes of Liverpool target Florian Wirtz of Bayer Leverkusen. The 22-year-old comes out on top with a score of 93.6.
Chelsea's Cole Palmer is second on 92.4; Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham is third on 90.0; and Bayern Munich's Jamal Musiala is fourth on 89.6.
McTominay is ahead of the likes of Arsenal's Martin Odegaard (84.8); Manchester City's Bernardo Silva (85.1) and his potential future team-mate Kevin De Bruyne (81.1) who is linked with a move to Antonio Conte's side.

McTominay eclipsed all of his former Man Utd team-mates. Infact, Bruno Fernandes (81.0) is the only United player who makes the list of 300, highlighting how poor the English Premier League outfit have been this season.
Of the six categories, McTominay's best attribute is his finishing but he also scores very well in his aerial play - the top three in the category of 50 players.
Liverpool's Mo Salah recorded the highest score overall (100), with Barcelona's teenage star Lamine Yamal (99.6) coming second.
Liverpool and former Celtic defender Virgil Van Dijk came out on top in defence, and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold, who looks like he on his way to Real Madrid, is first in the wing-back category.
Real Madrid's Kylian Mbappe is the top forward, with a score of 92.3. The French star has 31 goals in 34 games in La Liga this season but missed out on the title to rivals Barcelona.
He edges out Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres (89.2) who has had a fantastic campaign in Portugal, with 39 goals in 33 league games. The Swede has been strongly linked with Arsenal.

Gareth Bale and Arne Slot on same page in Premier League title prediction

Liverpool manager Arne Slot and ex-Real Madrid star Gareth Bale have both made similar predictions about the upward trajectory that Chelsea are on under Enzo Maresca Chelsea should be considered genuine contenders for the Premier League title in the upcoming season after winning the Club World Cup. The Blues beat Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final to bank £97million in prize money and send a message to their rivals, with Gareth Bale among those to sing their praises. Cole Palmer scored twice and set up new signing Joao Pedro to score the other in a stunning first half blitz of the Champions League winners. Enzo Maresca's side finished fourth in the Premier League last season before winning the Conference League and Club World Cup. ‌ They have bolstered their attack with the signings of Pedro, Liam Delap, Jamie Gittens and Estevao Willian this summer. And, after finishing the 2024/25 campaign strongly by winning 13 of their final 15 matches and lifting two trophies, they need to be taken seriously, according to former Tottenham and Real Madrid star Bale. ‌ 'I do not think they are far away at all,' Bale said on DAZN after their success in New Jersey. 'Last season, they got to around Christmas, and everyone was talking about them being contenders. Obviously, they are a young team, and they kind of fell off, but I think they will learn a lot from that. 'They have shown character as a team to come back and win the Conference League, and now win this. I think confidence will be booming and they will have that self-belief now.' His opinion is shared by Liverpool boss Arne Slot, who spoke about their potential after his side were beaten 3-1 by Chelsea in May. "I expected them to be a threat this season because at Anfield they were better than us,' Slot admitted. 'They were so close to us. It was a complete surprise to me that we are now 19 points clear of them or something like that. ‌ "I didn't feel that at all when we played them. That tells you how well we did, probably, if a team like this with so much quality, and also not only in the first XI, but in the complete squad, that we are able to be 19 points ahead of them is a big compliment for our players." Chelsea defender Levi Colwill has put Chelsea's Premier League rivals on notice. Asked whether they can win either the Premier League or Champions League in 2025/26, Colwill replied: "Yeah, definitely.' ‌ He added: "I said at the start of this tournament that our plan is to win it and people looked at me as if I was crazy. So I'm going to say the exact same thing now going into the Premier League and Champions League. "This is the biggest trophy I've ever won. I think the Club World Cup will be bigger than the Champions League and we were the first team to win it. "It was a statement victory and, in the future, if we keep winning trophies then everyone will give us the love that we deserve. But we'll only know that in the future. I think we're ready and we'll see next season."

Liverpool eye Premier League double transfer deal as three exits edge closer

Liverpool have already spent over £180million in the summer transfer window but aren't slowing down, with eyes on a striker and a centre-back at a rival Premier League side Liverpool have already completed five deals in the summer transfer window, but they are not showing signs of slowing down. The Reds are bolstering their squad after winning the Premier League title in Arne Slot 's debut campaign and have already sealed some eye-catching moves. Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman have all joined Slot's squad, with over £180million spent. ‌ But Liverpool are still very much in the market, with a striker and a centre-back on the cards, plus replacements for any other players who might leave. There are doubts over the futures of Darwin Nunez, Luis Diaz, Ibrahima Konate and Harvey Elliott, so more transfers are very likely. ‌ Here Mirror Football brings you the latest from the club, with an exciting double swoop from a Premier League rival potentially on the cards, as well as some exits. Reds eye Mateta Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and his representatives have reportedly met with Liverpool in recent days as the Reds look to bolster their forward ranks. The Reds are in the market for a new striker and could go after the Frenchman, who Foot Mercato claim met with Liverpool chiefs in Paris in the last few days. Mateta scored 14 goals for Palace last season, but the club are slightly vulnerable, with just two years left on his contract. ‌ Liverpool want a replacement for Darwin Nunez, who they want to sell this summer and has been linked with Napoli. Mateta was previously linked with Manchester United, with a £40m to £50m fee mooted. It could mean a double deal for Liverpool, who are also eyeing Palace captain Marc Guehi. West Ham target duo West Ham are interested in signing Liverpool duo Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton this summer. Elliott is poised to leave Anfield this summer in search of more regular game time and has attracted plenty of attention after starring at the Under-21 Euros, while Morton is also a fringe player for his club side following loan spells. ‌ The Guardian reports that the Hammers want to use the money they have earned from the sale of Mohammed Kudus to Tottenham. They netted £54.5m from that deal and believe Elliott would be a good replacement, although there is interest from RB Leipzig. No bid has been made yet but West Ham are reportedly confident they could land Elliott. He is keen to leave the Premier League winners and could get what he's searching for under Graham Potter. Diaz asking price ‌ Luis Diaz has been continually linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer – and we've continually been told that the club are not looking to sell. Barcelona and Bayern Munich are both interested in the Colombia international winger. There's also interest from Saudi Arabia, with Al-Nassr in the picture, but that seems the most unlikely exit route. The Reds have previously made it clear that Diaz isn't for sale for any price, but Football Insider say that £69m (€80m) would do the trick. That can be viewed two ways: as encouraging bids, or as setting the price so high so as to make a deal unrealistic. It's said that Bayern won't go above £51m (€60m), so it could well be the latter, although there is still plenty of time until the window closes on September 1.

Arsenal make third transfer breakthrough in days as agent arrives in London

Arsenal could soon see their confirmed transfer increase from six signings to nine as the Gunners progress with moves for Noni Madueke and Viktor Gyokeres and agree another deal Arsenal have already completed three transfers this summer and look set to quickly build upon that in the coming days. Sporting director Andrea Berta has been hard at work in his first window in charge in north London. The Gunners first signed Kepa Arrizabalaga in a £5million deal before making a landmark signing by adding Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad. Christian Norgaard then followed from Brentford as Mikel Arteta's squad takes shape ahead of the new season. ‌ But the work is not yet complete. Arsenal agreed another deal with Chelsea and are now preparing to confirm the signing of Noni Madueke. ‌ And the Premier League runners-up finally look to be on the verge of landing a strike for Arteta to work with. Viktor Gyokeres' move from Sporting CP looks set to take place in the coming days after a breakthrough. Mirror Football takes a look at the latest transfer news and rumours surrounding the Emirates. Madueke unveiling Noni Madueke will be announced as an Arsenal player on Tuesday. Reports claim that the ex-PSV winger has completed his medical and the paperwork has been signed after the England international flew back from the Club World Cup to seal a deal. ‌ The Gunners are set to pay £52m to Chelsea for his signature as their forward line is firmly reinforced. Madueke joins on a five-year deal. Gyokeres agents in London Progress continues over Viktor Gyokeres' move to Arsenal after the Gunners agreed terms with Sporting on Sunday evening. The breakthrough is said to have occurred after the Swede's agent, Hasan Cetinkaya, waived part of his fee so the north London team would meet demands of £55m up front with a further £8.6m in guaranteed add-ons, ensuring a deal worth £63.6m. ‌ Now Cetinkaya is claimed to be in London to seal the final details of the move to Arsenal. Once they are resolved, Gyokeres will be permitted to make the same trip to undergo his medical. Another deal agreed The transfers just don't stop. Arsenal are now reported to have made a breakthrough in negotiations for Valencia defender Christian Mosquera. A verbal agreement is reported to have been made over a package worth €15m (£13m) plus add-ons. Mosquera's only intention was to join Arsenal and is noted to have a long-term deal in place at the Emirates. The Gunners eyed the La Liga star across the summer but saw complications over agreeing a fee but that now appears to have been resolved. The player could be confirmed as Arsenal's newest signing later this week. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
