Relieved Carpenter relishes making long-awaited England debut in USA
But the match in the American capital kicked off an hour later than planned due to a lightning strike in the area, with the game then halted by a further half an hour on 29 minutes when another struck within 10 miles of the ground when England were 14-0 up.
The disruption followed several similar incidents at the recent Club World Cup in the US, with champions Chelsea's clash against Benfica delayed by nearly two hours after the Portuguese giants endured an even longer disruption against Auckland City.
Sale Sharks full-back Carpenter, watched on by dad Will, mum Jackie, partner Federica and brother Josh at Audi Field, was one of six players to be handed their debuts alongside fellow starters Max Ojomoh and Arthur Clark.
And asked about how the delays affected him, he said: 'Most of us getting new caps were just hoping the game was going to start, to be honest!
'Thankfully the weather held out eventually – there are a lot of happy boys in there and it's been a really special tour.
'It's probably not one the lads expected – it was probably the longest game of rugby a lot of the boys have had.
'But to go out there and get the win makes it very special.
'We've got a lot of strong leaders in there who led the way, kept us composed and got us chilled out and fired up at the right time.
'Mentally it's quite tough when you're about to start a game, then come off again.
'But I thought the boys handled it really well – to get three wins out of three is a great way to do it.
'The connections boys have made is massive and there are lots of happy faces in the dressing room right now.
'It was definitely special [to have my family here] – they're the reason I'm here. They've supported me throughout as a young one and as a professional.
'For them to be here for my first one is massively important to me.'
Curtis Langdon, Luke Northmore, Cadan Murley, Jack van Poortvliet, Harry Randall and debutant Gabriel Oghre all scored to make it three transatlantic wins from three and extend England's winning run to seven matches – their longest streak since back in 2020.
Carpenter nearly got on the scoresheet himself only for his dream debut try to be denied after a narrowly-adjudged Murley knock-on.
USA grabbed a late consolation through Shilo Klein to give the home fans who remained something to cheer about but England's work was done as they ended their triumphant tour in style.
England will now enjoy their summer break before gearing up for crunch autumn internationals against the likes of Australia and New Zealand at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham.
And Carpenter, who delivered a rock-solid display on debut, is desperate to be involved.
'That's definitely a goal of mine,' he added.
'Whether it happens or not I don't know – I've got to go back and perform for Sale now.
'We'll definitely enjoy the break and hopefully when autumn comes round I'm still performing and can get a few more caps.'

Ajax respond to £34m Chelsea bid to sign Jorrel Hato
Ajax are demanding a €60 million (£52m) transfer fee from Chelsea for Jorrel Hato, according to reports. Chelsea are moving quickly to complete a deal for the 19-year-old defender ahead of the new Premier League season. Hato is understood to have informed Ajax of his desire to leave the club and has already agreed personal terms with Chelsea. However, Chelsea are yet to reach an agreement with Ajax over a fee for the Netherlands international. According to De Telegraaf, Ajax are targeting a transfer fee between €55 million (£47.7m) and €60m (£52m) for their centre-back. Wake up to find news on your club in your inbox every morning with Metro's Football Newsletter. Sign up to our newsletter and then select your team in the link we'll send you so we can get football news tailored to you. The report adds that Chelsea initially made a move to sign Hato in December but were restricted due to Financial Fair Play constraints. Chelsea's opening offer during their negotiations with Ajax this week has been €40m (£34.7m). Speaking to the De Telegraaf, former Chelsea and Netherlands midfielder Boudewijn Zenden insisted that Hato has the quality to make an immediate impact under Enzo Maresca at Stamford Bridge. 'Hato is a strong player with great quality and, despite his age, plays very maturely. I also think he plays very intelligent football,' Zenden said. More Trending 'Although his red card against Spain wasn't very smart, he's learning from it. It's impressive that he's already put himself on the map like this. 'Ajax hasn't been going through their best years in recent years, but Jorrel still managed to stand out, with his selection for the Dutch national team as a reward. So it's logical that there's interest 'Can Hato play in the Premier League? Yes, I think so. And at Chelsea? Yes, I think so too. 'But have a good conversation with Enzo Maresca, because the manager can best explain to him whether he fits into the system. My advice would be: definitely don't just look at the money, but at the complete picture.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. Chelsea's real advantage in £80m Nicolas Jackson battle with Man Utd emerges
Nicolas Jackson is expected to leave Chelsea this summer and Roberto Di Matteo believes the Blues have all the power when it comes to deciding the striker's future Chelsea icon Roberto Di Matteo believes that the club are in a strong position regarding the potential sale of Nicolas Jackson. Jackson, 24, has caught the eye of several clubs this summer. Despite interest from Italian giants AC Milan and Napoli, reports suggest Jackson is keen on remaining in the Premier League. Manchester United have now emerged as the frontrunners to sign Jackson, with Chelsea looking to bank £80 million for the striker. It's understood that discussions have already taken place between the player's agents and United's representatives over a move. Yet, with United desperate for attacking reinforcements, former Chelsea manager Di Matteo is certain that his old side can stand firm and demand a significant sum for the Senegalese forward, given there's no pressing need at Stamford Bridge to sell players. Speaking to BetVictor, who offer the latest online casino games, Di Matteo said: "Chelsea are in a great position that they are not forced to sell. "They have a number of players that are on the market and they can raise some funds from there, so they are in no hurry to sell. They are in a good financial position, so it really depends on what clubs are prepared to pay.' Jackson's future at Stamford Bridge has been cast into doubt following Chelsea's £85m double swoop for Brighton's Joao Pedro and Ipswich's Liam Delap. Both new arrivals made their mark during Chelsea's triumphant Club World Cup run, prompting Jackson to weigh up his alternatives. United have secured Matheus Cunha for £62.5m from Wolves and Bryan Mbeumo for £71m from Brentford. However, after being knocked back in their pursuit of Arsenal-bound Viktor Gyokeres and Liverpool's new acquisition Hugo Ekitike, Ruben Amorim remains determined to land a centre-forward before the new campaign kicks off. Regardless of whether United make their move, Di Matteo reckons Jackson will be spoilt for choice should he depart west London this summer, reports Football London. "Nicolas Jackson will have a few clubs looking at him," Di Matteo added. "He's a very good striker. He scores goals and he's got some experience now in England as well. I think he would have some clubs chasing him and he might want to go somewhere where he's maybe more wanted than at Chelsea. "I could see him joining Manchester United, and there are other clubs that are looking for him. Aston Villa could be one if they lose Morgan Rogers." Since arriving from Villarreal in June 2023, Jackson has netted 31 times for the Blues. With his contract running until 2033, Chelsea are under no pressure to offload the striker, and Di Matteo can even envisage a scenario where Jackson remains in west London to battle for his spot. "There are a number of clubs, but he might go back to Spain as well, who knows. Should Nicolas Jackson stay and fight for his place at Chelsea? It depends on his own ideas and his motivation," Di Matteo said. "When your manager wants to sign two new strikers, it doesn't bode very well for yourself. Having said that, if he sticks around, I like him, I like him very much I have to say. I like him as a player - but he might decide to go and find fortune somewhere else."

Marcus Rashford savaged in eight words as accusation fired at him after Man Utd transfer
Marcus Rashford has joined Barcelona on a season-long loan after passing a medical with the Spanish giants, but the forward has been criticised for "letting Manchester United down" Marcus Rashford has been slammed for seemingly "letting Manchester United down" after making the switch to Barcelona. The forward completed his season-long loan to the reigning La Liga title-holders after being presented to fans on Wednesday. The 27-year-old has at least temporarily departed Old Trafford once again following his four-month stint at Aston Villa last season. Rashford found himself sidelined at United by head coach Ruben Amorim after his arrival in November last year. A move to Barcelona was understood to be the England star's favoured destination after losing his place in the international squad, and he has now secured his dream, with his new club holding the option to buy him next summer for £26m. The deal will see Barcelona cover Rashford's sizeable wages for the duration of the loan after he agreed to a 25 per cent reduction from his £325,000-a-week pay. Despite the financial relief, former Liverpool and Villa striker Dean Saunders has now slammed Rashford after questioning his commitment and arguing he hasn't earned the right to represent Barcelona. The former Wolves and Wrexham boss also challenged the Catalan club's reasoning behind the signing. Saunders gave a savage eight word-verdict on Rashford's performances in recent campaigns, saying: "In five years, he's had one good season." Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: "I think a lot of people are baffled. Hansi Flick is the manager and Deco is his director of football. I don't know what's going through their heads. What have they been watching that we haven't? "I thought Rashford was nearer to going down the same road as Dele Alli than he was of going to Barcelona. Whether he deserves that move? Well, basically, he doesn't. "I don't think he can produce brilliance. I think a talent is turning up every week. That's the biggest talent you've got, having the mindset to turn up and perform every week. "There's a lot of players at Man United who have let the club down. In my era, Man United were the biggest club. If you played for them, you had to be the best player in the world in your position, with the best attitude." Saunders added: "He [Rashford] has had years of [people] getting behind him and he's let the club down. In five years, he's had one good season." Rashford's questionable work rate was previously highlighted by Amorim as justification for dropping him from the squad for the Manchester derby last December. During his exile from the team, the Portuguese boss delivered a damning verdict, insisting he'd rather field his 63-year-old goalkeeping coach than select a player who lacks dedication. "If you do the maximum and do the right things, we can use every player," Amorim said. "And you can see today on the bench, we missed a bit of pace to go, to change the game. I will put [Jorge] Vital [on the pitch] before I put a player that does not give the maximum. I will not change in that department." Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick gave the go-ahead for Rashford's signing after having discussions with the player. The Catalan giants have been on the hunt for a left-sided forward this summer, and Rashford was a top target, along with Liverpool's Luis Díaz and Athletic Club's Nico Williams. Díaz's hefty price tag proved to be a significant hurdle, while Williams recently pledged his future to his current club by signing a new long-term contract. As a result, Rashford emerged as the most feasible and achievable target. United are keen to offload players who are no longer in favour in order to finance a substantial squad revamp. The restructuring process has already begun, with Matheus Cunha joining for £62.5million and Bryan Mbeumo following suit in a £70m deal.
