Perak police find RM4.66mil worth of drugs in abandoned SUV in Gerik
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the seizure was made following a tip-off and an inspection carried out by a team from the Gerik police station at about 1am on Monday.
"Upon inspecting the vehicle, police discovered and seized 80 transparent plastic packages containing a substance suspected to be methamphetamine, weighing 82.8kg, as well as 39 packages containing ketamine weighing 40.36kg," he said.
He was speaking during a press conference at the Perak police contingent headquarters here today.
He said the drugs were found in the boot compartment and are believed to have been used for transportation.
"The total estimated value of the seized drugs is RM4.66 million, and they are suspected to be intended for distribution within this state and neighbouring states.
"The seized supply is estimated to be enough for 350,000 users and is believed to have been brought in from a neighbouring state," he said.
He added that the vehicle used to store the drugs was also identified as a cloned car after its engine number and chassis number were found to have been tampered with.
"Further investigation revealed it is likely a cloned car belonging to a nurse in Serdang, Selangor," he said, adding that no individuals were found inside or near the vehicle during the inspection.
He said police believe the vehicle had been left only about half an hour before the arrival of the police team, based on the engine still being warm.
"We are tracking down individuals who are involved in this case," he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which is punishable either by death or life imprisonment.
