NBA star Ja Morant lights up BGC court in first Manila visit
The Grizzlies guard did just that in his rare Manila visit as part of his 'Make Then Watch' tour, which is aligned in his effort to connect and interact with local basketball stars.
The 25-year-old high-flying guard made a huge entrance before obliging to the fans to hit the 'griddy' dance moves.
Morant also watched from the sidelines as Team Barangay and Team La Salle went at it in a four-quarter exhibition game.
Team La Salle is composed of alumni Jeron Teng, Ricci Rivero, and Marga Jimenez, while Team Barangay are spearheaded by other Pinoy stars Rhenz Abando, CJ Cansino, Jack Animam, and Andrei Ugaddan.
Abando and Ugaddan threw a number of slams with the former NCAA Rookie MVP even getting a high-five from the NBA star.
But Morant did not leave without making one of his own, completing an alleyoop dunk off a pass from a member of his camp.
Hyped by the crowd, Morant then knocked down another two-handed hammer to close out the friendly game.
Before dropping by the Philippines, Morant also made stops in other Asian countries China and Japan.

Jack Animam draws inspiration from Ja Morant
Ja Morant (in white) and Jack Animam (beside Morant, fourth from right) in the Make Them Watch Tour (Photo: Make Them Watch Tour/Nike) Jack Animam has weathered her share of highs and lows in her ongoing quest to uplift the local women's basketball scene. As she continues that mission, she also draws strength from a mantra by NBA star Ja Morant that resonates deeply: 'Nobody said it's gonna be easy.' Morant made his first visit to the Philippines last Friday as part of his 'Make Them Watch' tour, giving players like Jack Animam a rare opportunity to showcase their game in front of the Memphis guard. "The lesson is that nobody said it's gonna be easy but you have to continue working and keep going and keep the faith," Animam told the media after the exhibition game. "...because darating 'yung one day mo na you're gonna be in the spotlight. All the lights are gonna be on you and that just shows Ja Morant's journey." For Animam, Morant's journey is one that extends beyond personal inspiration, saying it echoes the aspirations of many in the basketball community, including those of the Gilas Pilipinas Women. The youth-laden Filipinas are coming off a gallant stand at the 2025 FIBA Asia Cup. Gilas kept its Division A status after pulling off a narrow 73-70 win against Lebanon with Animam joining forces with young guns Naomi Panganiban, Sumayah Sugapong, Kacey Dela Rosa, and Kent Pastrana. "Hindi medyo, bata talaga. But I think that just shows how resilient we are, us athletes, especially Filipina athletes," Animam added. "Kahit na kung sinuman ang nasa harap, walang aatrasan 'yan. Laban talaga 'yan and I think that's what we showed." Animam also hopes to see more international basketball stars engage with the local scene, especially with the Philippines being one of the most passionate basketball nations in the world. "Personally, makita 'yung ganitong karaming babae to join in this event, sobrnag happy. We're a basketball-crazy country so dapat lang 'yung mga basketball stars dito pumunta," Animam said. "And the kids can see kasi representation matters and to see these girls play, and hindi lang basta maglaro kasi talagang may skills at talent, just wow. Amazing." —JKC, GMA Integrated News

They will square off at the Uber Arena in Berlin on Jan. 15 and at The O2 in London on Jan. 18. The game in Berlin will mark the first NBA regular-season game ever played in Germany. The contest in London will be the 10th regular-season contest in England's capital city. The league also announced that regular-season games will be played in Manchester, England, and Paris in 2027, and in Berlin and Paris in 2028. Dates and participating teams will be announced at a later date. "Announcing the next three season's regular-season games in Europe reflects the incredible momentum and appetite for NBA basketball in France, Germany, the UK and across the region," said George Aivazoglou, the NBA's managing director for Europe and the Middle East. "We look forward to welcoming the Grizzlies and the Magic to Berlin and London and to engaging fans, players and the local communities through the games and the surrounding events." The Grizzlies will be playing their fifth and six games in Europe and first in both Berlin and London. The Magic will be playing their fourth and fifth games in Europe, the first in Berlin and third in London. "We appreciate the opportunity to represent the NBA and to represent the city of Memphis and state of Tennessee on an international stage in Berlin and London," Grizzlies president Jason Wexler said. "... We are excited for fans worldwide to see the talents of the Memphis Grizzlies on full display." Current members of Orlando's roster include German brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner and German-born forward Tristan da Silva. "To have the Orlando Magic and the NBA play a regular-season game in our hometown of Berlin means everything to us," read a statement from the Wagner siblings. "Growing up here, we dreamed of moments like this. It's a huge honor to represent Berlin and Germany and show how much the city and country love basketball. We hope we can inspire kids the way we were inspired watching games from afar." --Field Level Media/Reuters
