Construction of Wadi Baiha Dam in Al Dhahirah completed
The dam was built by community and civil efforts, under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources at an estimated cost of RO 60,000.
Salem bin Humaid al Badi, the dam construction supervisor, said that the dam is 53 metres long and 11 metres high, with a storage capacity of 33,000 gallons. It was constructed in 235 days by using reinforced concrete, stones, filters, and other construction materials. He added that the length of the valley feeding the dam is about 12 kilometres.
Al Badi noted that the dam was built in accordance to the highest standards for dam construction in the Sultanate of Oman. A specialized team from the Dams Department at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources is supervising the field and construction work as well as the design and implementation phases of the dam.
Once the dam is filled with water, it will provide water supply to a number of villages and towns, Al Badi said noting that the dam is situated in one of the best-known tourist destination in Al Dhahirah Governorate and it will boost tourism activities especially for adventure enthusiasts, mountaineers, and nature lovers.

Work begins on the Izki-Nizwa dual carriageway project
Izki - The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) is implementing the 32.200 km Izki-Nizwa dual carriageway project, starting from the Southern Qarout roundabout in the Wilayat of Izki, passing through the Niyabat of Birkat al-Mouz, and ending in the Farq area in the Wilayat of Nizwa. The project costs approximately RO 47 million and includes several roundabouts and traffic lights, along with a vehicle crossing tunnel to serve traffic movement, in addition to converting all surface crossings into box culverts to ensure continuous traffic movement when descending into valleys. Salem bin Hamad al Junaibi, Director of the Roads Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, said, 'The Izki-Nizwa Road dualisation project is one of the important projects that aims to improve traffic flow and raise the level of traffic safety on this vital road. The project includes developing the road's infrastructure, which will contribute to linking Al Dakhiliyah Governorate to its vital areas and enhance economic and social development in the areas it serves, such as the Wilayats of Izki and Al Jabal Al Akhdar. It will also contribute to facilitating the access of agricultural and industrial products to markets.' The project extends from the Wilayat of Izki to Nizwa, with a double link connecting the Izki Center to the expressway coming from Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road, and includes the construction of service roads with a length of 3 kilometers.' Rehabilitating the 800-meter-long road linking the Green Mountain to boost tourism and economic activity in the region, and alleviating traffic congestion, particularly in the areas of Birkat al-Mouz, the center of Izki State, and Farq, which include many official and commercial institutions, and stimulating investment, working on economic diversification, and enabling better tourism in the Green Mountain. He pointed out that the company implementing the project has begun construction work, which includes cutting through the mountains, making cement concrete for valley crossings, preparing and leveling the land, and diverting some lanes to the current road within the framework of the project's timetable, which takes 36 months from the start date of implementation. The Director of the Roads Department in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate stated that the project will be equipped with all necessary traffic safety requirements, including concrete and iron barriers, traffic signs, floor paint, and floor and side reflectors. The road will also be equipped with all necessary lighting.

857-km final phase of Oman's longest dual carriageway begins
Oman has commenced the final construction phases of the dualisation of Sultan Said bin Taimour Road, a strategic highway that, once completed, will become the longest dual carriageway in the country. The road stretches from Oman's central desert to the southern Governorate of Dhofar and plays a vital role in enhancing national connectivity, economic integration and transport safety. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology confirmed the start of construction on the third, fourth and fifth phases of the project. These segments span approximately 400 km and are being developed at a cost of over RO 258 million ($670m). The construction period for the three phases is expected to be 36 months. According to Said bin Mohammed Tabook, Director-General of Roads and Land Transport in Dhofar Governorate, the three sections will significantly improve travel efficiency between the central and southern regions of the country. He explained that phase three extends from the Wilayat of Haima to the Wilayat of Muqshin and covers 132.5 km. Phase four begins in Muqshin and continues to the area of Dawkah, adding another 135 km. Phase five then links Dawkah to the Wilayat of Thumrait, also with a length of 132.5 km. These final phases are part of a broader national infrastructure initiative to upgrade the Sultan Said bin Taimour Road to a dual carriageway, eventually bringing its total length to approximately 857 kilometres. This makes it the longest dual road in the country, serving as a critical transport corridor for both passenger vehicles and commercial freight, particularly during the annual khareef season when Dhofar sees a significant influx of domestic and regional tourists. The project is being implemented by a consortium of companies that includes both Omani and Saudi partners. The road has been designed to withstand Oman's variable desert climate, ensuring accessibility throughout the year. Eng Tabook stated that the road is not merely an infrastructure upgrade but a national integration project. He noted that it would significantly boost economic development by supporting the movement of goods and people across the country. The highway is also expected to facilitate overland logistics from Salalah Port and energy zones in the south to the industrial and commercial centres of the interior and northern Oman. The upgraded road will also improve access to remote communities in the governorates of Al Wusta and Dhofar, contributing to broader goals of economic inclusion and sustainable development. With more efficient transport links, Oman's southern governorate is positioned to emerge as a logistics and energy hub connecting the Arabian Sea to Gulf markets and beyond.
