Mobile & CCTV lead to arrest of 2 cons in Kashmir

Time of India2 days ago
Bhopal: After a trail that led cops from Bhopal to Bangalore, two students involved in cyber-con were arrested from Kashmir by govt railway police (GRP).
The duo allegedly stole the mobile of a man from Sagar from a train and they subsequently used it to siphon off Rs 5.5 lakh from the victim's UPI-linked bank account.
SP (Rail) Rahul Kumar Lodha said that the investigation began on May 6, when Tanveer Arif, a resident of Sagar and a footwear shop owner, lodged a complaint at GRP Bhopal, saying that his mobile phone was stolen from the charging point of the AC-3 coach of the Rajdhani Express while travelling from Bhopal to Hazrat Nizamuddin. A case was filed.
A day later, the complainant discovered that the stolen mobile was linked through UPI to his two bank accounts, and an amount of approximately Rs 5.5 lakh was fraudulently withdrawn.
GRP (Bhopal) SHO Zaheer Khan said that given the seriousness of the offence, senior officers directed a specialised team to investigate the case on priority. The team traced the movement of funds across various accounts, revealing that the culprits used gift cards to purchase an iPhone. Using cyber tracking tools, the team traced the iPhone to Pune. When the team nabbed the phone user, he revealed that he purchased the phone from a shop in Bangalore.

The team then reached Bangalore, where the mobile shop owner confirmed the purchase. Based on the CCTV footage, the team identified the accused and reached J&K, where they apprehended the accused Faizan from Baramulla. He admitted to committing the theft along with his friend Shaukat. Faizan and Shaukat are nursing students in a college in Bangalore. Faizan revealed they stole the mobile when they were on the train en route to Bangalore to submit academic documents at their college.
SHO Khan said that Faizan was arrested with Rs 1.02 lakh in cash. Shaukat was arrested on July 13 from Bhopal. He admitted to transferring the stolen money to a betting app, and the remaining Rs 2.18 lakh was seized. Around Rs 3.2 lakh in cash, expensive devices, and frozen funds were recovered.

ED raids 14 locations linked to mastermind of illegal religious conversion syndicate

LUCKNOW: Seven days after registering a money laundering case, the Enforcement Directorate (ED), on Thursday, launched searches at 14 locations connected to Jalaluddin alias Chhangur Baba, the alleged mastermind of a massive illegal religious conversion syndicate in Uttar Pradesh. According to official sources, the ED carried out searches at 12 premises in Utraula area of Balrampur district in central UP and at two locations in Mumbai. The searches began as early as 5 am on Thursday. The probe follows suspected foreign remittances exceeding Rs 100 crore into nearly 40 bank accounts linked to Chhangur Baba and his associates. According to sources, the operation is based on documents and leads handed over to ED by the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) which uncovered links to hawala networks and foreign funding during their earlier probe into Chhangur Baba's activities. ED's investigation has so far uncovered Rs 68 crore worth of transactions in 18 out of 30 bank accounts associated with the syndicate. Of this, Rs 7 crore of foreign funding arrived in just three months. This money came via hawala and money laundering routes from several countries. The gang allegedly used the funds to purchase bungalows, Fortuner SUVs, showrooms, and to organize grand religious events such as Urs celebrations at Chhangur Baba's shrine. Evidence of a building used as a terrorist training camp has also been recovered.

Cavelossim sarpanch backs local cabbies in taxi row

Margao: A dispute between local and outside taxi operators in Cavelossim has intensified, with both sides approaching South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma seeking action. The controversy erupted after Cavelossim sarpanch Dixon Vaz said outside taxi operators cause conflicts with local cabbies, prompting the All Goa Drivers' Union (AGDU) to seek action from SP Verma for allegedly inciting locals against them. In their complaint, AGDU accused Vaz of making 'false and misleading' statements on social media, claiming that outside taxi operators enter the village without permits and forcibly pick up tourists. The union said that their drivers adhere to legal guidelines and only accept prior bookings. AGDU alleged that local taxi operators had assaulted several of their members in the past during pick-up and drop-off operations. Vaz, joined by local taxi operators, met the SP on Thursday and said that the decision to restrict outside taxis was made jointly by the panchayat and the villagers. 'Our local taxi operators have invested not only in their vehicles but also in their commitment to serving our community," Vaz stated in his letter to the SP. He said that many locals have made 'significant sacrifices, including selling ancestral land, to invest in taxis to support local businesses and hotels.' by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You To Read in 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The sarpanch said outside taxi operators undermine local livelihoods and public safety, and called for action over their false allegations against him. Rahul Fazilpuria shot at in Gurgaon: Man who ‘carried out recce' sent to 5-day police custody

Days after Haryana singer-rapper Rahul Fazilpuria alleged he was shot at in Gurgaon, a city court on Thursday sent the only accused who has been arrested so far to five days of police custody. Identified as Vishal, the 25-year-old Sonipat resident allegedly carried out the recce for the shooting. Around 5.50 pm on Monday, when the 35-year-old singer was leaving the Fazilpur area in his car, men allegedly driving a white Tata Punch – which had initially trailed him – opened fire on him. The bullet had struck a pole, and the perpetrators fled in the same vehicle, according to officers. The Sector 40 Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested Vishal, a resident of Jajal in Sonipat. 'His questioning has revealed that Vishal, along with accomplices, conducted reconnaissance of the victim's routes and locations while staying in various guest houses in Gurgaon. On the day of the incident, he tracked the singer-rapper and shared details with his associates, who then executed the shooting,' a police spokesperson had said. Police added that Vishal was involved in renting the Tata Punch car used in the crime, which has since been recovered. On Wednesday evening, a post surfaced on social media in which a person claimed responsibility for the shooting. The note said the shooting was the fallout of a financial dispute involving Rs 5 crore that the singer allegedly did not return. Earlier on Tuesday, CCTV camera footage had emerged of the Tata Punch car allegedly following the singer. In his complaint to the police, Fazilpuria said that he got into his vehicle and escaped unhurt as the assailants could not chase him due to the traffic. The singer-rapper, who has been promoting Haryanvi folk music, has several hits to his credit. In 2014, he rose to fame with his rap song 'Ladki Kar Gayi Chull', which also featured in the Bollywood movie 'Kapoor and Sons', starring Alia Bhatt, Sidharth Malhotra, and Fawad Khan. He had also unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha election in 2024 from Gurgaon as a Jannayak Janta Party candidate against Congress's Raj Babbar and BJP's Rao Inderjit Singh, who was elected. Last year, he was booked by the Gurgaon Police along with YouTuber Elvish Yadav, for allegedly using rare species of snakes and a .32 bore pistol in a music video. The duo was also questioned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with allegations linked to money laundering and rave parties.
