Emirates and Dubai Duty Free explore cryptocurrency payment option
The agreements underscore Dubai's growing role as a global hub for financial innovation and digital assets.
They were signed in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, President of Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Chairman & Chief Executive of Emirates Airline & Group, and Chairman of Dubai Duty Free.
Emirates plans to integrate Crypto.com Pay into its payment systems by next year, offering customers more flexibility and aligning with the preferences of younger, tech-savvy travellers.
Adnan Kazim, Emirates' Deputy President and Chief Commercial Officer, said the move reflects the airline's commitment to evolving customer needs and supports Dubai's vision of becoming a leader in financial innovation.
Dubai Duty Free, meanwhile, is exploring crypto payment options both in-store and online.
Managing Director Ramesh Cidambi highlighted the initiative as a forward-looking step to enhance convenience and choice for millions of global travellers.
The partnership also includes plans for joint marketing campaigns and customer engagement programmes.
Crypto.com's President and COO, Eric Anziani, welcomed both agreements, calling them milestones in expanding real-world use cases for digital currencies in the region.
The company's UAE President, Mohammed Al Hakim, and Middle East President, Alain Yacine, emphasized the strategic importance of these partnerships in building a robust crypto ecosystem in the GCC.
These developments come as Dubai continues to position itself at the forefront of digital transformation, supported by a strong regulatory framework and a growing number of businesses embracing cryptocurrency.

By using a QR code in the passport, kids will be directed to Dubai Destinations website for guidance on where to go and what to do in Dubai this summer. The initiative is the fruit of collaboration between Brand Dubai and the General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). Special immigration counters dedicated for children were set up at DXB Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in 2023 to make the arrival process 'more enjoyable and interactive' for children aged between 4 and 12. More than 550,000 children have passed through these counters since they were first opened, GDRFA announced last year.

Dubai Metro's AC overhaul: What RTA is doing to keep summer riders cool
Image credit: Dubai Media Office/Website Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), through its Rail Agency, has completed Phase 2 of a major ventilation and air conditioning (VAC) overhaul across stations on the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro. Read- The project is part of RTA's Strategic Plan 2024–2030, focusing on passenger comfort, operational efficiency, customer satisfaction, and long-term sustainability of assets. It also aligns with RTA's broader vision to be a global leader in seamless and sustainable mobility, This milestone underscores the partnership between RTA and Keolis-MHI, the Dubai Metro and Tram operator, in maintaining service excellence—especially during the city's demanding summer season. 876 assets upgraded across 14 stations Phase 2 saw the overhaul of 876 VAC assets across 14 stations and two car parks along the Red Line. Notably, the project was completed without any disruption to train operations. This builds on the success of Phase 1, which covered 261 assets across 13 stations. The 10-month program was carefully scheduled during off-peak hours and night shifts to ensure smooth station operations and uninterrupted service for commuters. Next phase to focus on energy efficiency Preparations are already underway for Phase 3, which will target the remaining 25% of public-area fan coil units (FCUs) and air handling units (AHUs) located in back-of-house and critical rooms across Red Line stations. Testing and verification work began in mid-July 2025. The RTA is continuing its VAC Enhancement Project with a focus on energy optimisation and a potential shift toward variable flow technology—part of a broader effort to enhance sustainability and reduce energy consumption system-wide.

Over AED 774 bn in bank investments in UAE by end of April 2025
Investments by banks operating in the UAE continued their upward trend, reaching AED 774.3 billion by the end of April 2025. This marks a 16.2% annual increase compared to April 2024 and a 1.4% rise from March 2025. According to banking indicators released by the Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE), investments in debt securities grew to AED 352.4 billion by the end of April. Meanwhile, securities held to maturity totalled AED 345.8 billion. Banks also invested AED 19.3 billion in stocks and AED 56.8 billion in other investment instruments. Total bank credit rose to over AED 2.259 trillion, reflecting an annual growth of 9.5%. Of this, domestic credit accounted for approximately AED 1.881 trillion, while foreign credit reached AED 378.3 billion. Bank deposits exceeded AED 2.965 trillion, comprising AED 2.689 trillion in resident deposits, AED 275.6 billion in non-resident deposits. A breakdown of investments by emirate noted that Abu Dhabi banks took the lead with AED 408.9 billion, followed by Dubai with AED 296 billion, and other emirates at AED 69.5 billion.
