News live: Australia reportedly in talks over Ukraine defence pact; childcare provider to install CCTV
Update: Date: 2025-07-08T20:36:47.000Z Title: G8 Education to install CCTV in its childcare centres Content: Australia's largest childcare provider, G8 Education, will install CCTV in all of its centres and allow parents to provide preferences on who conducts nappy changes and toileting after child abuse charges were laid against a former employee, Joshua Dale Brown. Dale, 26, was charged with more than 70 offences relating to eight alleged victims aged between five months and two years old. In an announcement to investors on Tuesday evening, managing director and chief executive of G8 Education Limited, Pejman Okhovat, said the team was 'horrified and appalled' by the allegations. 'These allegations are deeply disturbing, and our hearts go out to all the children and families involved. I am deeply sorry for the unimaginable pain caused to our families and what they are going through.' Okhovat said following the trial of CCTV in several centres, it would be rolled out to all operators in light of the allegations. In addition to greater parents' choice over their children's care, G8 would also commission an independent review into the incident following the police investigation and criminal proceedings. During the trial, Patterson said she made multiple changes to the RecipeTin Eats recipe she was using to prepare the fatal beef wellington two years ago. It was a dish she had never made, but she wanted to try something special for her guests, she said. The recipe is described on Maehashi's website as 'incredibly juicy, edge-to-edge rose pink beef encased in pastry boasting a flawlessly crispy base'. It is only available in her debut cookbook, Dinner. In a post to Instagram on Tuesday, Maehashi requested journalists 'please stop calling and emailing and texting and DM'ing me about the Erin Patterson case'. It is of course upsetting to learn that one of my recipes – possibly the one I've spent more hours perfecting than any other – something I created to bring joy and happiness, is entangled in a tragic situation ... Thank you for respecting my privacy. On Monday, Patterson was found guilty of murdering three relatives and attempting to murder a fourth. British tourist died from severe head injuries after falling from first floor window in Amsterdam
A BRIT tourist died from severe head injuries the day after he fell from a first floor window, an inquest has heard. Ben Roberts, 24, suffered a fractured skull in the backwards plunge. He was taken to hospital in Amsterdam but died the next day, donating his heart, liver, spleen, pancreas and kidneys to help others. Ben, of Bromley, South East London, was in the Netherlands with his family in May last year when he sat on a windowsill and fell backwards. Friends of his family donated almost £17,000 towards the young man's funeral and to fly his body home as no travel insurance was in place at the time of the accident. His heartbroken mother Kerry said: 'I can't describe our loss, we are heartbroken. "As Ben's mum, part of me died the day he did." Coroner Victoria Webb said: 'This was a complete accident and no third party was involved.' She said a UK post-mortem was limited due to organ donations and embalming but went on: 'There is no evidence to suggest the fall was suspicious or intentional.' Verdict: Accident. 1

Lamborghini driven by Liverpool's Jota in fatal crash was probably speeding, police report finds
MADRID, July 8 (Reuters) - Liverpool's Portuguese forward Diogo Jota was probably speeding when the Lamborghini car he was driving crashed in northwestern Spain, killing him and his brother, police said in a preliminary report on Tuesday. The forensics team is analysing the marks left by one of the car's wheels on the asphalt that suggest a tyre burst and whether that and excessive speed caused the crash, police said in a statement. Having concluded their investigation, police will send the report to the local court before it is made public. Jota's death at the age of 28 sent shockwaves through the world of soccer and beyond, with messages of condolences pouring in from national leaders as well as fellow football players. Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who played for Penafiel in the Portuguese second division, were believed to have been driving to a ferry in Spain to travel to Britain when their Lamborghini veered off the road and burst into flames after midnight on Thursday. They were buried in their hometown of Gondomar in northern Portugal on Saturday.
