Paraglider killed after falling 20m in horror crash in Far North Queensland

A man has been killed after his paraglider plunged 20m during a horror aviation incident in Far North Queensland. Emergency services were called to Polich Rd at Mena Creek, southwest of Cairns, shortly before 6pm on Monday after reports of a paragliding incident. A 63-year-old Utchee Creek man suffered serious injuries to his leg and chest during the incident and was airlifted to Cairns Hospital. Tragically, the man died during transit. Senior Sergeant Michele Rix told the ABC police believed the man had launched from a nearby field with another man using a separate glider. 'The 63-year-old man encountered some sort of difficulty in the air before descending quickly and hitting the ground,' she told the ABC. Senior Sergeant Rix said the paraglider was using a paramotor, and that the second man, who has not been identified, was uninjured. She confirmed people on the ground witnessed the incident.
