Chebet, Kipyegon break world records at Diamond League in Eugene
Double Olympic champion Chebet became the first woman in history to finish 5000m under 14 minutes. The 10,000m world record holder broke away from the rest of the field along with Gudaf Tsegay and Agnes Jebet Ngetich after 2000m. In the last 200m of homestretch, Chebet was away and clear to win in 13 minutes and 58.06 seconds, taking 2.15 seconds off Tsegay's world record. Ngetich took second place in 14:01.29, the third-fastest time in history, and Tsegay placed third in 14:04.41.
"I'm so happy to become the first woman to run under 14 minutes," said Chebet. "After Rome [where she ran 14:03.69], I knew that I was capable of running a world record. I told myself, 'if Faith [Kipyegon] is trying for a world record in Eugene, why not me too?'"
Chebet's compatriot Kipyegon broke her own 1500m world record with 3:48.68. The multiple world and Olympic champion had made history last week by producing the fastest mile performance at a challenge race in Paris.
Kipyegon tracked the pacemaker closely through 400m and 800m, but she had Olympic silver medalist Jessica Hull for company. The Australian was still just a stride or two behind Kipyegon when going into the final lap, but the 31-year-old world record holder eventually won by almost three seconds.
Ethiopia's Diribe Welteji came through for second with 3:51.44 ahead of Hull (3:52.67).

Neeraj Chopra wins Paris Diamond League with dominant first-round throw of 88.16m
Paris: India's Neeraj Chopra once again proved his dominance on the global stage, winning the Paris Diamond League title on Friday night (local time) with a commanding first-round throw of 88.16 metres. Despite three no-marks in the middle rounds, his opening effort was enough to keep him on top throughout the competition. Chopra set the tone early, launching the spear 88.16m on his first attempt, immediately taking the lead. Germany's Julian Weber came close with a best of 87.88m but fell short. Brazil's Mauricio Luiz da Silva secured third place with a throw of 86.62m. In the opening round, Chopra led the field, followed by Weber's 87.88m and Trinidad and Tobago's Keshorn Walcott with 80.94m. In the second round, Weber briefly merged an 86.20m throw, while Neeraj recorded 85.10m and Walcott slightly improved to 81.66m. However, Chopra's opening throw remained unmatched. The third round saw Da Silva make his mark with a throw of 86.62m. Weber tried to mount a late challenge with throws of 83.13m in the fourth and 84.50m in the fifth round, but he could not cross the 88m mark. In the final round, Neeraj returned to the sector with a solid 82.89m, while Weber finished with 81.08m and Da Silva with 78.56m. Despite the inconsistency in the middle of the competition, Chopra's single legal throw in the first round proved decisive and enough to seal the win. The two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra will be in action for the inaugural edition of the Neeraj Chopra Classic, which will take place on July 5. The NC Classic was originally slated to be held on May 24 but was later postponed to July 5 due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.

Doha: India's world champion and Olympic gold medalist javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra had an outing to remember, as he became the first Indian to cross the 90 m mark in the sport on Friday. However he could not secure the top spot on the podium this time, after a monstrous throw by Germany's Julian Weber at the Doha Diamond League. Neeraj had the lead till the final round, crossing the 90-m mark with a stupendous throw of 90.23 m, breaking his own national record. However, in the last set of throws, Weber registered a brilliant effort of 91.06 m, dropping Neeraj to second spot. Grenada's Anderson Peters is at number three, with a throw of 85.64 m. Neeraj had a brilliant start, kickstarting his season with a throw of 88.44 m, with Anderson Peters of Grenada in second place with 85.64 m and Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago at third with 84.65 m. The superstar Indian's second throw was a foul, but he still managed to maintain his lead. Germany's Julian Weber took third place with a throw of 85.57 m. However, the third throw by Neeraj helped him touch the coveted 90-m mark, with a monstrous throw of 90.23 m, extending his lead over his other opponents.
