Josh Bell homered, and Daylen Lile hit a three-run triple as the Washington Nationals defeated the Cincinnati Reds 10-8 on Monday night, marking their most significant offensive performance since July 3. They have secured three victories in their last 13 games. Lile cleared the bases in a four-run first, and Bell hit his 12th solo homer in a three-run third to establish a 7-0 lead.
The Nationals amassed 15 hits, including six extra-base hits, with James Wood contributing two doubles. Brady House and Jacob Young each recorded three hits. The Reds responded with four consecutive RBI singles in a five-run fourth inning, prompting the removal of Nationals starter Jake Irvin. Andrew Chafin (1-0), the fourth of seven Nationals pitchers, earned the win with a hitless sixth inning. Reds starter Brady Singer (7-8) lasted only 2 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs on five hits and two walks. Six Reds relievers contributed six more walks and 10 hits. Noelvi Marte and Gavin Lux each tallied two hits and two RBIs for the Reds.
The first five Nationals reached base in the opening inning before Lile delivered his bases-clearing triple into the right-field corner.
The Reds had not allowed more than four runs in any of their previous eight games (17 runs total), but a four-run first and a three-run third by Washington ended that streak.
Up next, Reds RHP Chase Burns (0-1, 6.19) will face Nationals RHP Brad Lord (2-5, 3.46) on Tuesday night.

Minkah Fitzpatrick Gets a $16.245 Million Signing Bonus in His Restructured Dolphins Deal

Minkah Fitzpatrick and the Miami Dolphins agreed Sunday to a restructured contract that adds a $16.245 million signing bonus to the All-Pro safety's deal. Agent Drew Rosenhaus confirmed the restructured deal, which was first reported by ESPN. The Dolphins acquired Fitzpatrick in a trade with the Steelers last month that sent All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey and Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh. Fitzpatrick, who became one of the top safeties in the NFL with the Steelers, returned to the team that drafted him 11th overall in 2018 and traded him away at his request in 2019. There previously was no guaranteed money left on Fitzpatrick's contract that runs through 2026. No years were added, but Rosenhaus said they're seeking a multiyear extension. The Dolphins cleared $11 million in cap space in the restructured deal by converting part of Fitzpatrick's salary to a bonus, according to NFL Network. Fitzpatrick had $2 million of his 2026 salary moved up to this coming season. He is now due $17.5 million in 2025 and $15.6 million in 2026. Fitzpatrick had signed a four-year extension with the Steelers in 2022 that made him the highest-paid safety in the NFL at the time and gave him $36 million in guarantees.

Short-handed Inter Miami secure draw against FC Cincinnati

Despite being without Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, host Inter Miami dueled FC Cincinnati to a scoreless draw on Saturday night in Fort Lauderdale, Florida Messi and Alba were both suspended on Friday for skipping the MLS All-Star Game earlier this week. Still, Miami (12-4-6, 42 points) barely found a way to secure a valuable point in its chase of Supporter's Shield leader Philadelphia (15-5-5, 50 points) 10 days after losing 3-0 in the first meeting between the clubs. Cincinnati nearly scored the game-winning goal in the second minute of second- half stoppage time when Miles Robinson appeared to sneak a shot past Miami keeper Rocco Rios Novo. But Robinson was called for a foul on Inter Miami's Noah Allen. The call was upheld even after video-assisted review. With Messi out, Inter Miami leaned more on Luis Suarez and Tadeo Allende up front. With Alba out, and Miami also missing Maxi Falcon due to yellow card accumulation, it started Benja Cremaschi at the left back position. Miami did not approach the game tentatively, however, as it put together two great scoring chances in the first 15 minutes of the match. Fafa Picault, who started with Messi out, nearly scored on a header in the 11th minute. Cincinnati goalkeeper Roman Celentano, who came with his second clean sheet against Inter Miami and third in a row overall. Rocco Rios Novo started for Inter Miami in goal for the injured Oscar Ustari and recorded his clean sheet and the club's first since another scoreless draw against Al Ahly on June 14 in the first match of the FIFA Club World Cup. It was Miami's first shutout in an MLS game since beating Columbus 1-0 on April 19. Cincinnati superstar Evander, who scored twice in the first game against Inter Miami, was held scoreless. But Evander had a great chance early in the second half but missed the goal on a close-range shot. Miami outshot Cincinnati 13-8. But Cincinnati outshot Miami 4-3 on shots on target.
