Prayagraj: With barely two days left for the Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra, organised by the members of Shri Jaganath Ji Rath Yatra Mahotsav Samiti (Bada Rath), deities are being adorned with jewellery, including precious gemstone and pearls (moti), to enhance their divine presence and symbolise auspiciousness and prosperity.
A team of 10 artists is working round the clock to decorate the deities' idols, crowns, thrones, masks, etc., with precious gemstone and pearls worth lakhs of rupees. The rath yatra will be taken out in the city on June 27.
President of the samiti, Krishna Bhagwan Kesarwani, told TOI that hectic activities are underway to complete all preparations, and the yatra will be taken out in the city from Hewett Road to Mutthiganj Chota Chauraha with full religious fervour.
He, however, claimed, "We have also completed all preparations for the seven days deities' special shringar from June 28 to July 5." Meanwhile, the committee members claimed that deities are being adorned with precious gemstone and pearls brought from Maharashtra, Delhi and Rajasthan.
Ramesh Singh, entrusted with the job of adorning deities with precious gems and pearls, told TOI that around two to four kg of gems and pearls are being used for the decoration of deities and their crowns, thrones, and masks.

Wings clipped: Grounded helicopter takes road route to Mumbai

1 2 Kendrapada: While the British Navy's F-35 fighter jet continues to sit stranded on the tarmac at Thiruvananthapuram airport a month after developing a technical snag, a helicopter that carried chief minister Mohan Charan Majhi during his visit to Kendrapada has finally begun its slow road journey to Mumbai — ending more than 30 days of being grounded on a college playground and becoming an unlikely selfie hotspot. The helicopter was immobilised on June 9 after a lightning strike caused serious technical faults, forcing the CM to return by road. Despite a week of efforts by three aviation engineers, the problems proved too complex to fix on-site — mirroring the ongoing plight of the British F-35, which has remained grounded since June 14. Its removal came after a TOI report on July 10 flagged the stranded aircraft. "The authorities initiated action to remove the helicopter after the news was published," confirmed additional district magistrate Rabindra Kumar Mallick. Engineers dismantled the helicopter's blades before using an earthmover to lift it onto a trailer. "The road journey to Mumbai, covering about 800 km, will take around 10 days. Two escort vehicles will ensure safe transport," said a Mumbai-based aviation engineer involved in the operation, who did not wish to be named. For Kendrapada Autonomous College students, the chopper's presence meant their only playground was barricaded and guarded round-the-clock by police and fire services. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [속보]'한 달만에 5cm 성장!?' 2개월치 무료증정 압도적 키성장 1위! 아이클타임 더 알아보기 Undo "Students and others were denied access for over a month. We're relieved it's finally being moved," said a college teacher, requesting anonymity. Like the British Navy jet that has become an unusual sight for flyers at Thiruvananthapuram airport, the Kendrapada chopper turned into a local spectacle — with students flocking for selfies and group photos. "I took my final selfie with the helicopter as it was being loaded onto the trailer," said Rahul Rout, a college student.

Sev-parmal served instead of kheer-puri under mid-day meal, 5 get notices

Indore: A video showing students at Govt Primary School at Lalguwadi village in Ratlam district being served sev-parmal (puffed rice) instead of mandatory kheer-puri under the mid-day meal scheme has gone viral on social media. After receiving the video, Ratlam zila panchayat CEO Shringar Shrivastava directed the mid-day meal nodal officer and additional CEO to carry out an immediate inquiry and take necessary action. Following the order, show-cause notices were issued to five individuals associated with the school and the meal preparation, directing them to respond within three days. The incident occurred on June 24. But, the video surfaced on Tuesday, and reached the district panchayat officials. In the video, students can be seen eating only sev and parmal, while a few staff members and villagers stand nearby. A voice in the background is heard saying, "Jo ho raha hai, bolte jao, record ho raha hai" (Keep talking, it's all being recorded), suggesting the video was captured by a villager to document the deviation from the prescribed meal. "We got the video and information regarding this change in the menu through our internal monitoring system. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cách giao dịch ETH/USD mà không cần nắm giữ Ether IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo Notices have been served to five persons responsible for providing mid-day meals in that school. Based on preliminary findings, notices were issued to school headmistress Vijaya Maida, assistant programme coordinator Vivek Nagar, block academic coordinator Bhupendra Singh Sisodia, and president and secretary of Saraswati Self-Help Group, Shanti Bai and Kamla Bai respectively. The administration has warned that failure to provide a satisfactory reply will result in disciplinary proceedings under the Madhya Pradesh Civil Services (Classification, Control and Appeal) Rules, 1965. The state govt has fixed menu under the mid-day meal scheme, kheer-puri is compulsory on every Tuesday.

Air India crash fallout: Videos should be installed in cockpits, says IATA chief

Air India crash (Picture credit: AP) LONDON: Pilots should be filmed in the cockpit so that accidents can be investigated properly, International Air Transport Association (IATA) director-general Willie Walsh has said. 'I can see there is a strong argument now for the inclusion of video in the cockpit to assist in accident investigations,' Walsh said in his first remarks since the release of the preliminary investigation report on the June 12 Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash. 'We believe that any major incident or accident that takes place needs to be investigated fully and properly and reported so that everyone can benefit. Based on what little we know now, it is quite possible that a video recording in addition to the voice recording, would significantly assist the investigators conducting [the Air India] investigation,' Walsh, former chief executive of British Airways, said in Singapore on Wednesday. 'Videos are becoming important now as there have been so many crashes over the past few years,' a retired Boeing pilot captain who flew 737s internationally told TOI. 'A video recording would answer all the questions about the Air India crash… People need answers.' Pilots' unions are worried about privacy breaches and the videos being misused. President of the largest airline pilot union in the world, the Air Line Pilots Association, Int'l (ALPA), Capt Jason Ambrosi, told TOI: 'ALPA has long recommended that any additional resources should be focused on enhancing current safety systems to record more data of a higher quality and improve pilot situational awareness by deploying readily available technology, like ADS-B in equipage, to prevent accidents, as opposed to video images, which are subject to misinterpretation and may lead investigators away from accurate conclusions. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like [속보]'한 달만에 5cm 성장!?' 2개월치 무료증정 압도적 키성장 1위! 아이클타임 더 알아보기 Undo Flight deck image recorders will not improve safety and could impede it by diverting limited resources that could be used for more valuable safety enhancements. ALPA remains equally concerned as to how such proposed video recordings may be misused.' In 2000, US National Transportation Safety Board chairman Jim Hall had urged the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to require all commercial US airliners to be equipped with cockpit video recorders. An FAA spokesperson told TOI, 'The FAA formed an Aviation Rulemaking Committee in Sept 2023 to provide suggestions for addressing these recommendations. The FAA expects to receive the committee's report later this year and will carefully evaluate it.'
