When a film about Saipan was announced, some football fans likely rolled their eyes, however the first trailer for the film looks promising with the infamous Roy Keane/Mick McCarthy feud to be revived once more.
Whether you were a football fan or not, anyone who lived through the summer of 2002 had an opinion on the falling out.

Roy Keane was arguably the best midfielder on the planet at that point, however, a row about the training facilities on the Western Pacific island led to the Manchester United star leaving the camp ahead of the World Cup.
It seemed the nation was divided, you were either team Keane or team McCarthy, and decades later it is sitll rehashed in pub corners on a near daily basis.
There is no release date yet, but the first trailer for the Saipan film dropped on Monday.
Unsurprisingly, Coogan seems like he'll make a great McCarthy.

However, Cork native Éanna Hardwicke looks like he's well able to take on the role of the most famous Corkman.
With radio pundits heard dissecting the row, amid ominous shots of the island, we hear Hardwicke's Keane telling his manager: "You don't ever tell me we're done. I'm just getting started."
The film is produced by Macdara Kelleher and John Keville for Wild Atlantic Pictures (Evil Dead Rise, Cocaine Bear, Black 47) along with Trevor Birney and Oliver Butler for Fine Point Films (Kneecap, No Stone Unturned) with Patrick O'Neill and Rachael O'Kane serving as executive producers.
The synopsis for Saipan reads "SAIPAN is the thrilling story of football player Roy Keane and his manager Mick McCarthy, and the events leading up to Ireland's incendiary 2002 World Cup campaign.

"The intense rivalry between these two personalities transcended the game, gripping an entire nation and the sporting world. On the surface, the feud was all about standards, but deep down it was a hugely emotive story of two men whose rivalry and contempt came to surpass the sport they loved.
"This is the definitive account of one of the most fractious fallings-out in the history of sport."

Iconic whiskey brand Jameson launches new Euros inspired football shirt collection to celebrate summer of women's sport

Although Ireland won't be competing in Euro 2025 this month their fans won't be missing out on a new strip this summer. Iconic Irish whiskey brand Jameson have collaborated with The Goalposts League, an inclusive football community organisation, and Lover's FC, a football fashion brand to design a new women's kit collection ahead of the tournament, inspired by Ireland and past England and Germany Euro teams. The Euros kicks off on Wednesday, while reigning champions England take on France in their opener on Friday. Ireland's women team have never qualified for the Euros but did feature in World Cup 2023, where they crashed out without a win in the group stage. They were pipped 3-2 by Wales in a tournament play-off in December, with Rhian Wilkinson's side reaching the competition for the first time. Jameson's new shirt collection is inspired by the 'what is', 'what was' and 'what could have been'. The first shirt is features a subtle Celtic design and blends in with Jameson's green and orange design. The second is inspired by the German Women's Euros winning team of 2005, who wore one of the first specifically designed female-fitting football shirts. The final top gives a nod to England teams with a St George's Cross on each shoulder. Julia Massies, Managing Director for Pernod Ricard UK, said: 'Jameson has fully embedded itself within the world of football, from its long-standing partnership with the English Football League, to its past campaigns supporting grassroots women's football with both The Goalposts League and Lovers F.C. 'Everything we do is reflective of what the sport ultimately represents, community. It was a pleasure to collaborate once again and shine a light on the talent within female sport.' 'It's been amazing to be a part of the Goalposts League. It's given me a real sense of belonging and community…It's not always easy to find space in football that isn't dominated by men,' Jazmyn Tyne said. 'It's made me feel like I have a place in the sport, supported and surrounded by a community of like-minded people who celebrate and uphold each other. I was delighted to be asked to feature in this collaboration with Jameson and Lovers FC, to celebrate what should be another momentous summer of women's football!'

Noah Kahan review: Musician in awe of enthusiastic crowd of 39,000 at Marlay Park

Noah Kahan took to the stage as the sun was setting over Dublin's Marlay Park on Tuesday night, and his performance delighted the 39,000 fans in attendance. A wide range of age groups turned out for the US singer-songwriter, and there was something for everyone in the gig. Advertisement Kahan energetically went through his ever-growing catalogue of hits, including the likes of All My Love, Maine, You're Gunna Go Far, Northern Attitude and of course, Stick Season. His backing band, including guitarist Noah Levine, engaged with the crowd just as much as Kahan, who seemed genuinely in awe of the support. Kahan, who performed at Electric Picnic in 2004, said "you guys are the greatest crowds in the world", and it was clear he was being genuine about that. As the crowd joined in with All My Love, Kahan beamed before saying, "oh, so you know all the words", as if it was a surprise. Advertisement There had been speculation Hozier would appear as a special guest, and while this didn't materialise, Kahan told the crowd "you're like mini Hoziers", before launching into Northern Attitude. He finished with a rousing rendition of Stick Season, and was again delighted as the crowd sang along, with Kahan letting them take over for parts of the hit. You would have been forgiven for thinking it was a Saturday night in the peak of the summer rather than a Tuesday at the start of July as joy filled Marlay Park. Kahan will probably be back in Ireland before long if he enjoyed it as much as his fans did.
