LG Manoj Sinha vows justice and rehabilitation for terror victims, warns conflict entrepreneurs in J&K
Sinha today handed over the appointment letters to Next of Kin (NoKs) of 40 militancy victims in Baramulla in north Kashmir.
'The process to rehabilitate the militancy victims will continue till every terror victim family is rehabilitated,' LG said while speaking on the occasion.
He said the terror victim families will receive justice, jobs, recognition and support they deserve after years of suffering.
'Terror victim families, forsaken and forgotten, suffered silently for decades. Stories of their loved ones, brutally killed by Pakistan-backed terrorists, are being brought to the forefront. The truth about these families was deliberately suppressed. No one came to wipe their tears,' the Lt Governor said.
He said everyone knew Pakistan-backed militants were involved in brutal killings, but no one provided justice to thousands of elderly parents, wives, brothers or sisters

Arms smuggling modules busted in Amritsar: 13 pistols, ammo seized; juvenile among 11 held
At least 13 pistols and ammunition were recovered as Amritsar police busted three cross-border illegal arms smuggling modules with links to Pakistan on Friday, officials said. The weapons seized by counter- intelligence wing, Amritsar. (HT) Amritsar commissionerate police arrested four operatives of two modules, including a juvenile, and recovered seven sophisticated pistols from their possession, said Punjab director general of police Gaurav Yadav. Those arrested have been identified as Sikanderjeet Singh (19) of Bhagwanpura village in Tarn Taran; Pradeep Singh alias Babbal (43) of Antarjami Colony, Amritsar; Jarnail Singh (34) of New Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar, Amritsar; and a 17-year-old juvenile from Tarn Taran. 'The recovered weapons include two Glock pistols, four .30-bore Star pistols, and one .32-bore pistol, along with six live cartridges. Apart from recovering weapons, police teams have also recovered their motorcycle, which they were using to deliver consignment,' Yadav said, adding that preliminary investigation has revealed that the accused were in touch with Pakistan-based smugglers and retrieved weapon consignments near the international border. The weapons were meant to fuel gang rivalries and disrupt peace in the region, he said. The DGP said that further investigation is underway to trace forward and backwards linkages to unearth the entire smuggling network. Amritsar commissioner of police (CP) Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that preliminary investigations revealed that the accused, Sikander, along with a juvenile, was in touch with Pak-based smugglers. 'Their home is close to the international border, and they retrieved the drone-dropped consignments from the locations provided to them,' he said. The other module was busted with the arrest of the accused, identified as Pardeep and Jarnail. 'The weapons were received from Pakistan smugglers and were meant for deceased gangster Ravneet Singh alias Sonu Mota, he said, adding that further investigation is ongoing, and more arrests are likely in the coming days. Two FIRs under relevant sections of the Arms Act have been registered at police station Gate Hakima in Amritsar and police station B-Division in Amritsar. Six pistols seized, 5 arrested In another case, counter-intelligence (CI), Amritsar busted a cross-border illegal arms smuggling module with links to Pakistan and arrested five of its operatives and recovered six sophisticated pistols from their possession, the DGP said. Those arrested have been identified as Jagroop Singh of Dhun in Tarn Taran, Navdeep Singh of Patti Lahian Di in Tarn Taran, Arshdeep Singh of Shaliwal in Amritsar, Gurlal Singh of Rajoke in Tarn Taran and Joban Singh of Patti Mana Ki in Tarn Taran. According to information, the arrested accused Jagroop and Navdeep have criminal backgrounds with several cases pertaining to the Arms Act and the NDPS Act registered against them. The recovered weapons include four 9MM Glock pistols and two .30-bore pistols, along with magazines and live cartridges. Yadav said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested accused persons were acting upon the directions of a Pakistan-based smuggler identified as Rana, who has been sending consignments of illegal weapons from across the border, he said. The DGP said that teams of CI-Amritsar arrested five accused from a bus stop in Panjwar, situated on Amritsar-Bhikhiwind Road. Man shot dead, 1 assailant killed, 2 hurt in encounter TARN TARAN: A man identified as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Thathian Mahantan, who was shot at by the gangsters, and one of the assailants, who were injured in a subsequent shootout with police, succumbed to injuries on Friday, police said. On Thursday late evening, three unidentified bike-borne assailants opened fire on Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Thathian Mahantan falling under the jurisdiction of Sarhali police station of Tarn Taran. The victim sustained serious injuries and was admitted to a hospital. 'One ASI and one constable, who were deployed as security personnel with the family, due to a security threat from the Landa Harike and Satta Naushera gang, along with family members of the victim, chased the assailants. All three assailants were injured in the subsequent shootout near Mohanpur village. One of the assailants succumbed to injuries at the hospital today,' said Deepak Pareek, senior superintendent of police (SSP). Three pistols were recovered from the spot of the encounter.

J-K Tragedy: Ramnagar SDM Rajinder Singh, Son Killed In Reasi Landslide, Lt Governor mourns loss
In a tragic accident, Ramnagar Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Rajinder Singh and his son died due to a killing landslide in Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. The mishap took place on Friday when their Bolero jeep was hit by a landslide at Salukh Ikhter Nallah while they were on their way back to their home village Pattian from Dharmari. JKAS officer of 2011, Rajinder Singh, and his son died on the spot due to their injuries. His wife and two other family members traveling with him in the vehicle were injured and were immediately taken to a nearby hospital. Following initial first-aid treatment, those in serious condition were sent to the District Hospital at Reasi for more advanced medical treatment. An immediate rescue effort was initiated with the active involvement of residents and police officers, who continued to pull the wounded from the rubble. Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha was deeply saddened by the premature death. In a release, he extended his sincerest condolences to the grieving family of Rajinder Singh and instructed officials to provide the best medical care for the injured. He also promised all-around support to the mourning family. "Extremely saddened by the landslide incident in Dharmari, Reasi in which we have lost an outstanding officer Sh Rajinder Singh, JKAS 2011, SDM Ramnagar and his son. The tragedy is heart-wrenching. My deepest condolences to bereaved family and I pray that the injured recover quickly,' the Lieutenant Governor posted on X (formerly Twitter). Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo also expressed grief, portraying Rajinder Singh as a true and devoted officer well-respected by his fellow officers and society. He offered his condolences to the family and reiterated the administration's resolve to provide medical care and continuous support to the injured family members.

Election Commission rejects Rahul Gandhi's ‘atom bomb' claims
The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday termed as 'baseless and irresponsible' Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's claim his party had uncovered an 'atom bomb' of evidence proving voters lists were manipulated on a large scale, and said that it ignores such statements. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said the Congress began investigating after noticing irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that over 10 million voters were fraudulently added to the rolls. (Sansad TV) 'We dug deep because the Election Commission wasn't helping,' Gandhi told reporters outside Parliament. 'What we found is an atom bomb. When it explodes, you won't be able to see the Election Commission in India.' The Leader of Opposition said the party began investigating after noticing irregularities during the Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Lok Sabha elections. He alleged that over 10 million voters were fraudulently added to the rolls. 'There was a suspicion in the elections in Madhya Pradesh and the Lok Sabha, and it deepened in the Maharashtra assembly polls. At the state level, we believed there was a vote theft,' Gandhi said. 'It took us six months to study this in detail.' Gandhi issued a warning: 'Whoever is doing this, from top to bottom in the ECI, we won't spare you. You're working against the nation. This is treason.' In response, ECI said, 'The Election Commission ignores such baseless allegations being made on a daily basis and despite the daily threats being given, (it) asks all election officials to ignore such irresponsible statements and work in a fair and transparent manner.' The Congress has repeatedly accused the ECI of acting like a 'biased umpire', particularly in its handling of the 2024 general elections and multiple assembly polls. ECI said it had sent a mail to Gandhi on June 12 after previous allegations, but had not received a response. 'He has never sent any letter to ECI on any issue, whatsoever,' the election watchdog said. The latest accusation comes amid a broader protest by the opposition INDIA bloc over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's electoral rolls, which they claim is a BJP-backed attempt to disenfranchise voters. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had also blamed the poll body on July 6, saying, 'With the cooperation of the Election Commission, the BJP's master plan to deprive crores in Bihar of their voting rights now seems to be ensnaring them. Forcibly disenfranchising the poor, Dalits, backwards — this is the BJP-RSS conspiracy.' Following a joint strategy meeting, the INDIA bloc parties on Thursday announced they will intensify their protests –– both in and outside Parliament. ECI published the draft electoral rolls for Bihar on Friday. Responding to Gandhi's claim , the BJP asked him to 'flow like water' instead of considering to 'explode like a bomb'. 'Will Rahul Gandhi explode like a bomb? What do you think? Their job is to explode. They have no other work to do,' BJP leader Sambit Patra told reporters at the BJP headquarters. He said the Opposition party speaks of such things because they have no faith in democracy. 'We are those who have faith in democracy. If they explode an atom bomb, we will save the Constitution,' Patra said.
