Countdown's Elliot Knight Breaks Down That Bell/Valwell Bait-and-Snitch: ‘His Eye Is on the Prize'
The following contains spoilers from the July 23 episode of , now streaming on Prime Video. Tensions are running high on Countdown, as lead after lead on slippery Volchek comes up empty — or, worse, steers Task Force Hurricane into a dead end because someone apparently is snitching on their next moves. More from TVLine Dexter: Resurrection's Michael C. Hall and Krysten Ritter Detail Killer Dinner Party, Dexter and Mia's Instant Connection - Watch Gen V Season 2 Trailer Reveals Ethan Slater's Casting, Starlight's Mission for Marie and a Chance Perdomo Tribute Save the Dates: Solar Opposites Swan Song, E! News Shuts Down and More That was the case this week, in Episode 7 (of 13), when the team's stealthy raid of a company that works with fissile materials turned up only a smug lawyer sitting inside a recently emptied warehouse. SAC Blythe (played by Eric Dane) was quick to call out the SWAT team leader for having a rat in his ranks, but for naught. Is there a mole in the midst? Adding to the paranoia was an earlier scene between FBI Special Agent Keyonte Bell (The Boys' Elliot Knight) and District Attorney Grayson Valwell (Merrick McCartha), the same ambitious politico who has been (unsuccessfully!) bugging Blythe to keep him apprised of each and every development. Valwell spoke of how he worked with Bell's father and, more pointedly, how Bell's father (ahem) knew what to do to get ahead. Valwell clearly was courting Bell to be his man on the inside. And one might not fault Bell for being susceptible to such an overture, given how stung he was when Blythe chided him for mocking a colleague's bad tip. Of all Hurricane members, Bell 'definitely has the most to prove, and I think he's the most focused on how he can prove himself,' portrayer Elliot Knight tells TVLine. But if Bell continues to struggle to impress his SAC, there could be the temptation to at least consider alternative paths up the professional ladder. 'This is a big deal to be a part of a task force like this, but I do think it's important to Bell that his eye is on the prize, and that is to rise up the ranks,' says Knight. 'My question, as Elliot, is why does it sting?' to get dinged by Blythe. 'Is it as simple as him wanting to be the director of the FBI one day? What else is at play?' Luckily, viewers did not have to wait until next week to find out if Bell took the bait. Because at episode's end — as part of a montage that also included Mark confiding his tumor sitch with Amber and Volchek leading some Belarusian adversaries into a brilliantly explosive trap — Bell met again with Valwell to assert his loyalty to Blythe & Co. and acknowledge that, yes, his father was many things that he isn't. 'Bell knows that Valwell had a professional relationship with his father, and Valwell speaks to that and almost floats the sense of power over Bell — 'I worked with your dad and he made the right choice, because he knew what to do,'' Knight notes. 'It's a test for Bell to see what he will do.' But did Bell pass said test by refusing to be a snitch? Or is he perhaps cunningly playing a long game? 'There's a question mark over what happened in the past' with his father, says Knight, and 'either Bell has committed to this sense of justice and that's what he's going to fight for always, or there's something else he's looking to work towards. 'I think the smart play is to always assume that there's a bigger picture in this world, than what's happening on the surface,' the actor teases. Want scoop on , or for any other TV show? TVLine's Performer of the Week: Sarah Jessica Parker
THE PERFORMER | Sarah Jessica Parker More from TVLine And Just Like That EPs Tell All About That Taylor Swift Needle Drop, Why It Was Perfect for Carrie's Big Moment Resident Alien's Alan Tudyk, Corey Reynolds and More Mourn Series' Cancellation, Promise Fans 'Will Still Get a Complete Story' Resident Alien Cancelled, Will End With Season 4 THE SHOW | And Just Like That… THE EPISODE | 'Present Tense' (July 24, 2025) THE PERFORMANCE | Like Carrie said a couple weeks ago, she and Aidan are '20 years in' to their relationship — if you don't count the time they were married to other people — and there's a lot of water under that bridge by now. But this week on HBO Max's sequel series, that water started to flood over, and Parker gave us vintage Carrie Bradshaw, digging deep and finding an inner strength and courage as she stood up for herself and cut things off with Aidan for good. As the episode opened, Carrie noticed that Aidan's old jealousy was coming back as he needled her handsome neighbor Duncan, and Parker's furrowed brow and sour expression spoke volumes, telling us that Carrie's worst fears about Aidan were coming true. She was later stung by Aidan kicking her out of bed for smelling like smoke, but Parker didn't back down, with Carrie bluntly telling him the next morning: 'Aidan, you're worried about me and another man.' It all came to a head when she and Aidan met for lunch, with Carrie picking up on the fact that Aidan said he 'has' trust issues, not 'had.' She stood her ground, frustration gathering in Parker's voice as Carrie told Aidan, 'I have done nothing!' (When he excused his trust issues with 'Well, can you f—king blame me?' she fired back: 'Can you stop f—king blaming me?') She finally realized they had to call it quits, with Carrie sadly declaring: 'I can't give you any more than I have, and it wasn't enough.' In a way, it was a callback to Carrie's best moments on Sex and the City, like when she told off Big after he got engaged to Natasha. ('I don't get it.' 'And you never did.') And it was exhilarating to see Carrie take control of her future once again, a Taylor Swift song playing as she headed back out onto the New York City streets to meet her girlfriends. Parker tapped into the untamed spirit that made us fall in love with Carrie Bradshaw in the first place — and showed us that her story is far from over. Scroll down to see who got Honorable Mention shout-outs this week… HONORABLE MENTION: Anson Mount As Enterprise captain Christopher Pike on Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Anson Mount has always looked the part of the dashing action hero, and he filled that role admirably this week as Pike and M'Benga beamed down to a hostile planet overrun by zombies to retrieve a rare flower. But the reason why they needed that flower — to try to save the life of Pike's Gorn-infected girlfriend Marie — added a poignant emotional layer to Pike's actions, with Mount infusing a palpable edge of anxiety into Pike's reckless drive to complete the mission. Then when Pike reunited with Marie on the ship, Mount showed more vulnerability than we're used to seeing from a Starfleet captain as Pike confessed how scared he is about Marie's fate. It's nice to see a Star Trek captain save the day, of course… but we're also happy to see Mount delve into what's truly important to this captain. — D.N. HONORABLE MENTION: Ebony Obsidian As any Sistas fan can attest, Karen's pregnancy has been a wild ride for everyone involved. Not only has it lasted more than five seasons, but what began as a simple 'who's the daddy?' mystery eventually gave way to a soap-tastic 'twins from two different fathers' scenario. And up until now, we've all enjoyed watching the saga unfold, relishing each ridiculous twist and turn. But there was nothing to enjoy about Wednesday's episode, save for the incredible performance delivered by Ebony Obsidian at her character's darkest hour yet. It was devastating enough watching Karen struggle to have her concerns taken seriously by her racist doctor, but the actual moment she learned that one of her twins had died will haunt us for quite some time. Obsidian was given the incredible task of portraying an expectant mother's absolute worst nightmare — from the initial haze of confusion and disbelief, to the sudden wave of insurmountable grief — and she fully rose to the occasion, finding new ways to break our hearts in each scene. Karen may be historically prone to dramatic outbursts, but we've never seen Obsidian forced to give so much of herself, and we're grateful for her sacrifice. — Andy Swift HONORABLE MENTION: Corey Reynolds Corey Reynolds has been a delight throughout Resident Alien's four-season run playing Patience's leading alien skeptic Sheriff Mike. But ever since Mike started to believe, the actor has soared even higher with stellar one-liner deliveries and the flaunting of his character's egotistical bravado around town. In Friday's episode, all of that and more took center stage after Mike and Liv finally learned that Harry was, in fact, the town's 'resident alien.' Reynolds had us in stitches as Mike attempted to purposely sweat out pheromones, compared his own 'delicious' qualities to a baked potato (with the works!) and entered into the silliest of stare-downs with Harry. Reynolds has always served up excellent comedic timing, but watching him go toe-to-toe with Alan Tudyk raised the stakes even higher and brought the brightest of smiles to our faces. — Nick Caruso Which performance(s) knocked your socks off this week? Jennifer Love Hewitt on 'A Killer Among Friends' doc: 'I'm very intrigued by trauma'
From fictional scream queen to true crime. Jennifer Love Hewitt has become one of the iconic 'final girls' in horror movies, thanks to her role in the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' franchise. And now, she's sharing the stories of true murders. Hewitt, 46, narrates and executive produces the true crime ID docuseries 'A Killer Among Friends,' airing Mondays (10 p.m. on ID and streaming on HBO Max). 'I was shocked at how many people in my life are obsessed with true crime – and I didn't know it until I said that I was going to be doing the show. And they're like, 'We can't wait to watch it!' I'm not a true crime buff, per se…I was really interested in this show, more because of the human condition of it all,' Hewitt exclusively told The Post. 8 Jennifer Love Hewitt at the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer,' premiere in LA on July 14, 2025. ID Each episode of 'A Killer Among Friends' follows a murder case where the culprit turns out to be someone who knew the victim. '[It's] not something that I've done before, so I was excited for that,' the 'Party of Five' actress said of narrating. 'I feel like that's what we're supposed to do in life: constantly challenge ourselves to do new things.' She 'wasn't sure about' joining the project initially, however. 'I'm used to relying on my face for all the emotions, and bringing those out in that one specific way,' Hewitt explained to The Post. 'So to challenge myself to pay homage to the people lost in these stories and their families and friends who are still here…. I wanted to sound graceful, and to not be in the way of this story. But, to just be the vehicle for the story with my voice.' 8 The ID series 'A Killer Among Friends.' 8 A photo from the trailer of 'A Killer Among Friends.' ID 8 Jennifer Love Hewitt in '9-1-1-.' Disney via Getty Images Hewitt, who was labeled 'a sex symbol' when she was still a teenager in the 1990s, has since spoken about how watching documentaries about Britney Spears in recent years helped her process her complicated feelings about that. 'I think for me to realize later in life that maybe some of the things that were talked about in and around me or directly to me as a young female weren't as they should have been,' she said. In an infamous 1996 interview on 'The Tonight Show' when she was 16, Jay Leno asked about her love life and age. 'I don't hold the people asking those questions responsible – it was more that was the thing that was allowed at that time,' she explained. 'Grown men were allowed to ask young girls questions that now, if we looked at that, we would not allow. We were just sort of a part of that time.' She added, 'I do think that these documentaries in general and documentary series really allow people to see things and look at things differently than maybe they do in a magazine article.' 8 Jennifer Love Hewitt at the '9-1-1' ABC premiere event on March 11, 2024. 'I'm very intrigued by trauma, and… how people continue to move through that and find a life after it,' she said. 'So in this series, I'm interested in these young people and how they've gone on to live lives, even though they've been through these traumatic experiences.' Recently, Hewitt also reprised her role as the traumatized Julie James in the latest 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' reboot, which is currently in theaters. The horror flick's end-credits scene suggested a third movie in the franchise could happen. 'Oh my gosh, I have no idea. I mean, truthfully, I was just excited to be asked back for this one. So I don't want to be too greedy,' Hewitt told The Post. 'But as long as there's a really interesting, fun story to tell, and as long the people still care about the characters, I'm always happy to hopefully find my way back there.'
