Kanwar route eatery staff stripped to ascertain faith
1 2 3 4 5 6 Agra: Members of a Hindu outfit allegedly tried to forcibly verify the religious identity of a dhaba worker by attempting to strip him during an 'identity campaign' near the Kanwar Yatra route on Saturday at Pandit Ji Vaishno Dhaba along Delhi-Dehradun National Highway 58 in Muzaffarnagar. The confrontation began when the team scanned the eatery's QR code and claimed, erroneously, that the owner belonged to the minority community. The employee at the receiving end of the assault, Gopal, said, "I work here and live at the hotel. These people tried to take off my pants. First, they asked for my Aadhaar card, but I don't have it. They were intent on stripping me naked. I'm unwell. I told them I'm not a Muslim, I am a Hindu. I didn't lie." Police soon reached the spot and brought the situation under control. However, no formal complaint was filed by Gopal or the dhaba owner. New Mandi SHO Dinesh Chand said, "We controlled the situation and no police complaint was filed by anyone in the matter." Self-styled seer Swami Yashveer Ji Maharaj, who runs an ashram in Muzaffarnagar and led the 'Pehchan Abhiyan' (identity campaign) said several food outlets on the Kanwar route use Hindu names despite being run by individuals from other communities, which could "mislead pilgrims." by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Plastic Surgeon Reveals The 1 Thing Every Woman Should Be Using Instead Of Moisturiser New Skin Discovery Undo He said, "We have warned this dhaba to change its name within 24 hours or face a protest starting tomorrow morning. This is not a Hindu-run establishment and is misusing the name 'Pandit'." He referred to state govt directives requiring eateries to display the owner's name and warned of legal action under Section 420 for misrepresentation. Multiple dhabas operate along NH-58 in Muzaffarnagar, many of which shut during the Kanwar Yatra if they serve non-vegetarian food. Last year, similar pressure was applied on fruit sellers and dhaba owners to display their names. However, in July 2024, Supreme Court issued an interim stay on such directives from the UP and Uttarakhand govts. The court held that eateries and shops could only be required to indicate whether they serve veg or non-veg food, not display names of owners or staff. The directive, which had emerged during last year's Yatra, had led to harassment of Muslim shopkeepers and staff. Several establishments were reportedly forced to shut, dismiss Muslim workers, or alter names to avoid targeting. Opposition leaders and rights activists termed the orders discriminatory and said they risked marginalising specific communities economically. Muzaffarnagar borders Uttarakhand and serves as a key passage for lakhs of devotees from UP, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Haryana, who collect Ganga water from Haridwar during the Shravan month. When asked about the ongoing identity campaign, SP (city), Satyanarayan Prajapat, said, "The guidelines of the Supreme Court will be followed."

The incident came to light when residents of the apartment complex, overwhelmed by a strong stench, informed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). A team of civic officials broke into the flat and discovered the dog's rotting corpse inside. According to NDTV, the room contained several religious items and images scattered throughout, leading authorities to believe that a "tantric" or black magic ritual may have been performed. The presence of such objects inside the home has triggered a deeper probe into the motive behind the act. Shocking further still, two more dogs were found alive but tied to the wall. BBMP veterinary officer Dr. Rudresh Kumar, the complainant in the case, confirmed that the dogs were rescued and are currently undergoing treatment at a BBMP-run hospital. "The FinCEN sanctions do not block property or cut off all global dollar-based activities of Mexican firms as other Treasury sanctions would, but they do prohibit U.S. transactions with their locations in Mexico, a U.S. Treasury official told reporters. "The action will have a similar effect of cutting institutions out of the U.S. financial system," the official Treasury said that commercial banks CIBanco and Intercam have assets of over $7 billion and $4 billion, respectively, making them relatively small by global banking the action against Vector, a brokerage firm that manages nearly $11 billion in assets and is one of the top 10 securities brokers in Mexico, "underscores the significance of our actions," Deputy U.S. Treasury Secretary Michael Faulkender told Treasury said all three institutions "have collectively played a longstanding and vital role in laundering millions of dollars on behalf of Mexico-based cartels and facilitating payments for the procurement of precursor chemicals needed to produce fentanyl."The Treasury said that a CIBanco employee in 2023 knowingly facilitated the creation of an account to purportedly launder $10 million on behalf of a Gulf Cartel member and the bank processed over $2.1 million in payments on behalf of Mexico-based companies to China-based companies that shipped fentanyl precursor chemicals to Mexico for illicit said Intercam executives in late 2022 met directly with suspected CJNG cartel members to discuss money laundering schemes, including transferring funds from the Vector sanctions, the Treasury said that from 2013 through 2021, a Sinaloa Cartel "money mule" employed various methods to launder $2 million from the United States to Mexico through Vector, while the firm also processed over $1 million in transactions between Mexican companies and Chinese companies known to have shipped precursor chemicals to Mexico."Vector categorically rejects any accusation that compromises its institutional integrity," Vector said in a statement. It added that it reiterated its full willingness to collaborate with Mexican and U.S. authorities to clarify the and Intercam did not immediately respond to a request for Finance Ministry said that if it has conclusive information proving illicit activities involving the three institutions, it will act to the fullest extent of the sanctions add another potential obstacle to easing U.S.-Mexico trade tensions over U.S. President Donald Trump's 25% punitive tariffs on many imports from Mexico, which are aimed at spurring action to halt the flow of fentanyl into the U.S."I want to affirm that under President Trump, the Treasury Department has taken and will continue to take historic action to ensure that cartels and drug traffickers cannot abuse the U.S. dollar to launder drug money and profit off the poisoning of Americans," Faulkender said.- EndsMust Watch
