INDIA bloc promises healthcare transformation in Bihar with Rajasthan blueprint
Veteran Congress leader Ashok Gehlot announced here that a Rajasthan-model healthcare system will be implemented in Bihar to achieve the goal.
He said that Bihar's healthcare system has collapsed during the 20-year rule of Nitish Kumar. A recent CAG report has laid bare the extent of this failure. The medical staff shortage is critical. With 59,168 approved positions, only 23,851 are filled—a 60% vacancy rate. He claimed the problem is even worse for Ayush doctors (89% vacant), paramedical staff (79% vacant), and specialist doctors (up to 86% vacant).
Gehlot said: 'An INDIA bloc government in Bihar will implement a Chiranjeevi scheme, mirroring Rajasthan's Congress government's initiative, providing up to Rs25 lakh in free medical treatment at both public and private hospitals for all income levels.'
As Chief Minister of Rajasthan he had enacted the Right to Health Act in Rajasthan, guaranteeing free treatment for all emergencies. The move had significantly reduced out-of-pocket medical costs for ordinary citizens and explored making health insurance universally accessible and affordable.
The Chiranjeevi Bima Yojana provided Rs10 lakh in health insurance and Rs5 lakh in accident insurance. It also covered medication costs for five days prior to and fifteen days after hospitalisation. This plan made Rs5 lakh in coverage accessible to all income levels, a first for the nation.
He added: 'We also expanded healthcare by establishing medical colleges, increasing hospital capacity, and boosting the availability of doctors, vaccinations, and maternity services.'
AICC Bihar in-charge Krishna Allavaru also criticised the state's healthcare system, claiming the current government has reduced Bihar to a state of crisis. He stated that the people of Bihar are suffering immensely due to the severely deteriorated healthcare services.
He further asserted that the government's mismanagement has pushed the state's healthcare system to a critical point, referencing a CAG report acknowledging the dire state of healthcare in Bihar. UNI XC SSP

Pharma exports robust at $5bn in April, May: Pharmexcil
New Delhi: India's pharmaceutical exports reached $4.9 billion in April-May of FY26, according to data released by the government's Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) on Tuesday. This marks a strong 7.38% expansion compared with the same period last year, highlighting the industry's continued upward trajectory and its key role globally. Pharmexcil, a body under the ministry of commerce, attributed the momentum to strategic initiatives focused on sustainable manufacturing, expanded global market presence, and digital innovation aimed at streamlining regulatory processes. It said these efforts are fundamental to India's ambitious goal of achieving a trillion-dollar trade target for its pharma industry. "India's pharmaceutical exports continue to demonstrate a steady year-over-year growth, with drug formulations and biologicals continuing to dominate the export category," stated Namit Joshi, chairman of Pharmexcil. "We attribute this growth to rising global demand, streamlined regulatory approvals, technological innovations, strategic partnerships, and economic stability,' Joshi said. Formulations and biologicals remain the backbone of India's pharma exports, accounting for 75.74% of the total. Bulk drugs and drug intermediates also saw healthy growth, expanding by 4.40% in May 2025-26. Notably, there was a significant 13.64% increase in vaccine exports, reaching $190.13 million, underscoring India's contribution to global health. Other key segments were surgical items (up 8.58%) and Ayush & herbals products (up 7.36%). The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region, Europe, Africa, and Latin America make up 76% of India's pharmaceutical export destinations. The US remains the top destination, with exports valued at $1.7 billion in May, representing 34.5% of total pharma exports and a 1.5% expansion. While Europe and Africa saw moderate growth, the Asean region emerged as a newly contracted area, showing promising diversification, the statement said. Joshi said the India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) discussions showed it will significantly enhance supply chains, improve access to affordable medicines, and attract foreign direct investment, particularly in contract development and manufacturing (CDMO) and joint research.

Tesla shares plunge after Trump's sharp jibes at Musk
Tesla shares have already dropped more than 20% this year as sales of the company's automobiles fall amid criticism of Musk and his ties to the Trump administration. read more Shares of Elon Musk's electric vehicle company, Tesla, fell Tuesday as the billionaire's feud with President Donald Trump over the massive package of tax incentives and budget cutbacks heated up anew, with Musk hinting at the formation of a new political party. Tesla shares have already dropped more than 20% this year as sales of the company's automobiles fall amid criticism of Musk and his ties to the Trump administration. Tesla sales are falling in Europe and China, as well. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Tesla shares tumbled almost 6% in early trade. The return of hostilities between Trump and Musk, who also serves as CEO of SpaceX, is usually terrible news for investors in Musk's firms. 'This BFF situation has now turned into a soap opera that remains an overhang on Tesla's stock with investors fearing that the Trump Administration will be more hawkish and show scrutiny around Musk related US government spending related to Tesla/SpaceX and most importantly the autonomous future with the regulatory environment key to the future of Robotaxis and Cybercabs,' wrote Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives on Tuesday. 'We would expect the stock to be weak to kick off trading this morning as the Street will show concern that the Trump and Musk once BFF relationship now backfires and turns into a junior high school friendship gone bad into an enemy,' he said. The most prominent divide in the relationship between Musk and Trump is the president's big bill. Musk ramped up his criticism of the bill over the weekend, arguing the legislation that Republican senators are scrambling to pass would kill jobs and bog down burgeoning industries. Musk posted on X on Saturday that the bill would be 'political suicide for the Republican Party'. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD With the Senate working its way through a tense overnight session that dragged into Tuesday, Musk suggested he will work to get members of Congress who vote for the bill out of their seats next year. 'Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame,' he wrote on X. 'And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.' The post was viewed 26 million times on the social media platform. A few hours later, Musk followed up with a post claiming he will create a new political party if the bill passes. 'If this insane spending bill passes, the America Party will be formed the next day,' he wrote. 'Our country needs an alternative to the Democrat-Republican uniparty so that the people actually have a VOICE.' Musk's post about the America Party was viewed 32 million times on X. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Trump focused some of his criticisms of Musk on EV mandates and subsidies. In a post on Truth Social early Tuesday, Trump said Musk has known that he's against an EV mandate and that people should not be forced to own electric vehicles. 'Elon may get more subsidy than any human being in history, by far, and without subsidies, Elon would probably have to close up shop and head back home to South Africa,' Trump wrote. Trump also suggested that the US could cut back on spending by targeting segments of the economy in which Musk plays a significant roll. 'No more Rocket launches, Satellites, or Electric Car Production, and our Country would save a FORTUNE. Perhaps we should have DOGE take a good, hard, look at this? BIG MONEY TO BE SAVED!!!' Trump posted, alluding to the cost-cutting entity that until recently, was headed by Musk. Several hours later, while standing on the White House lawn before heading to Florida, Trump continued to take shots at Musk and what he believes to be his biggest grievance, the billionaire's displeasure over potentially losing EV subsidies. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'He's very upset. You know, he can lose a lot more than that, I'll tell you right now," Trump said. 'Elon can lose a lot more than that.' When asked by a reporter if he was going to deport Musk, Trump warned that the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, could come back to hurt the billionaire. 'We'll have to take a look,' Trump said. 'We might have to put DOGE on Elon. You know what DOGE is? DOGE is the monster that might have to go back and eat Elon. Wouldn't that be terrible? He gets a lot of subsidies.' Musk responded on X by saying he would refrain from escalating the conflict, but he took another shot at Trump and Republicans anyway. 'What good is Doge saving $160B when this bill increases the debt ceiling by $5T? It makes mockery of the work,' he wrote.
