Cowboys $1.5 million LB flyer could win starting gig in training camp
So now he finds himself in Texas, ready to battle for a bigger role. Sanborn has middle linebacker experience, and the Cowboys might choose to give him the green dot to relay the commands from Eberflus; at least to begin the season. That could help bridge the gap in a similar way to how Eric Kendricks worked for Mike Zimmer last year.

Profile
Sanborn has started 19 games across his career, so if he can manage to make the roster and land the starting gig, it won't be unfamiliar to him. Murray has MLB experience as well, as does second-year player Marist Liafau, a player drafted under the previous regime. Clark is from two coordinators ago, so it remains to be seen where the new Eberflus staff lands on his prospects.
The Cowboys also drafted Shemar James on Day 3 back in April, adding him and UDFA Justin Barron to the mix alongside veteran Darius Harris. There could be an extra roster spot available as DeMarvion Overshown works his way back from his ACL injury.
The fanbase seems intently intrigued by Sanborn's upside as a player in a new location. Oftentimes it takes linebackers a few years to settle into the pro game, and Sanborn's strength as a run stuffer with an attacking mindset could endear him to the fanbase as that is something that's been missing from the depth chart more often than not recently.

USC women's basketball lands top recruit Saniyah Hall. Why she picked Trojans
Southern California women's basketball team has landed another top recruit. Saniyah Hall, the top female high school basketball recruit in the class of 2026, according to ESPN's rankings, has committed to play for USC after receiving offers from nearly 30 schools, including UConn, UCLA, South Carolina, North Carolina and LSU. The 16-year-old made the announcement on ESPN's "NBA Today" on Friday, saying, USC "felt like home." "It's such a blessing to be in this position, but I think I truly found my home, and I'm ready to tell the world where I'm going," she said before revealing a Trojans shirt underneath her jacket. "I am headed to the University of Southern California. Go Trojans! Fight on." Hall's announcement comes on the heels of her gold medal win with Team USA at the FIBA Under-19 World Cup. She was named MVP after averaging 19.9 points and 6.4 rebounds, shooting 52.6% from the field and 39.3% on 3-pointers. She scored 25 points vs. Australia in the gold-medal game. Her 19.9 points per game may have set a USA U19 record, but Hall said she's proudest of her defense: "I had a lot of steals that game and a lot of blocks." She'll join a Trojans squad that is assembling elite talent under coach Lindsay Gottlieb. McDonald's All-American Jazzy Davidson, the third overall recruit in the 2025 class, who competed alongside Hall on the USA U19 team, also committed to play for USC. The Trojans were 31-4 last season and lost to UConn in an Elite Eight game after superstar Juju Watkins went down with an ACL injury during the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. Hall said Gottlieb and her teammates led to her choice to commit to USC. On Friday, she said, "I love all my teammates. The girls there are so fun to be around definitely Lindsay (Gottlieb)... she's definitely there to support me and I've built a relationship with her. She's a great coach." The Ohio native will finish her senior season of high school basketball at SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio. Last season, she played for Montverde (Florida) Academy and averaged 20.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 2.8 steals and 1.4 blocks. Hall signed an NIL deal with Jordan brand earlier this month. During her announcement, Hall said, "I don't have anything to prove. I just go out, play basketball. I let my game do the talking. Actions speak for themselves." Cardinals' Ryan Helsley ‘90 percent' sure he will be traded before deadline
Ryan Helsley's days in St. Louis are numbered. At least, according to him. The Cardinals closer told The Athletic on Thursday that he's expecting to be dealt before Thursday's deadline after years of his name in trade rumors. 'I would say it's 90 percent I go, 10 percent I stay,' Helsley said. 'It's a little bit different this time. The likelihood is probably as great as it's ever been for me to get traded.' Helsley, 31, has been one of the most dominant relief pitchers in baseball in recent years. Since 2022, Helsley has the second-best ERA (2.04) and fifth-best strikeout percentage (32.8 percent) among relievers with at least 200 innings pitched over that period. St. Louis Cardinals relief pitcher Ryan Helsley (56) celebrates after the Cardinals defeated the San Diego Padres at Busch Stadium. Jeff Curry-Imagn Images This season, the two-time All-Star has a 3.09 ERA with 20 saves and 39 strikeouts in 35 innings. But with the Cardinals struggling to stay in the National League playoff picture, it appears that they may move on from the flame-throwing right-hander, who is set to become a free agent this winter. St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Ryan Helsley throws during the ninth inning of a baseball game against the Texas Rangers, Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Arlington, Texas. AP St. Louis is 53-51 heading into Friday's play, sitting nine games back of the Brewers in the NL Central and 2 1/2 games back in the wild-card race. 'From a front office perspective, I think they saw what they wanted to see,' Helsley said. 'Do you sell, where this is a two or three-year rebuild? Or do you just solely take this as a rebuild year?' Despite anticipating his departure, Helsley made it clear that he wants to continue playing for the only big league franchise he's ever known. 'There are so many different scenarios you can do. But I want to stay here. I want to help us win here, with the Cardinals.'

Oklahoma State duo Ethan Fang, Preston Stout named to U.S. Walker Cup team at Cypress Point
It's a good summer to be an Oklahoma State Cowboy. Ethan Fang, 20, and Preston Stout, 21, were named members of the 2025 United States Walker Cup team, it was announced Friday. The duo, both rising juniors at OSU, join Jackson Koivun, Ben James and Michael La Sasso on what will be a 10-man roster, leaving five spots open with three weeks remaining in the selection period. The roster will be fully announced at the conclusion of the 2025 U.S. Amateur at Olympic Club in San Francisco. 'Ethan and Preston are excellent additions to further solidify this year's team,' captain Nathan Smith said in a release. 'These two players have worked tirelessly to put themselves in a position to be selected to this team and I'm thrilled to see their hard work rewarded. I look forward to having them on our side at Cypress Point.' Last month, Fang captured the 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St. George's in England, becoming the first American in 18 years to win. He also went 2-1 for OSU in match play, helping the Cowboys win their 12th national title in school history in May at Omni La Costa. Stout also went 2-1 in match play at the NCAA Championship, and he also captured the title at the 2025 Northeast Amateur last month at Wannamoisett Country Club in Rhode Island. He's also a back-to-back Big 12 Conference individual champion. The USGA's International Team Selection working group could name additional players to the Walker Cup team before the U.S. Amateur. The winner of the U.S. Amateur and the recipient of the 2025 McCormack Medal, if they're American, will earn automatic spots on the Walker Cup Match is a 10-man amateur team competition between the USA and Great Britain and Ireland. Cypress Point Club previously hosted the 1981 Walker Cup, when the USA defeated GB&I, 15-9, led by Corey Pavin, Jay Sigel and Hal Sutton. The 50th Walker Cup is set for Sept. 6-7.
