AIADMK afraid of CM's name in schemes: DMK
'Hence, the AIADMK has approached the court against the use of the chief minister's name in government schemes,' he said. Elango said the Ungaludan Stalin grievance redressal camps have been successful across the state, while the health department's Nalam Kaakum Stalin scheme will be launched on August 2.
Listing the 'Amma' schemes implemented during the Jayalalithaa's term as chief minister, such as Amma canteens, Amma water and Amma mini clinics, Elango added, 'AIADMK is afraid of the present CM's name.'He further remarked that by opposing the use of photographs of former chief ministers in schemes, the AIADMK has 'betrayed their leaders Anna, MGR and Jayalalithaa.'
Meanwhile, BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran welcomed the Madras High Court's order restraining the state government from using the name of any living personality or photographs of former CMs and ideological leaders for welfare schemes.
In a post on X, he said the court had put an end to the 'empty advertisements' of the DMK government using public funds.
'Stalin should, at least from now, understand that government welfare schemes are meant to benefit the people, not to promote himself,' Nagenthran said.

Tamil Nadu signs MoUs worth ₹32,554 crore at investors conclave
Chief Minister M.K. Stalin asserted here on Monday that Tamil Nadu would keep rising under the Dravidian-model government. He was addressing the gathering at the TN Rising Investors Conclave. The Chief Minister inaugurated the commercial production under four projects located in Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, and Kancheepuram, at cost of ₹1,230 crore. These projects are expected to create employment opportunities for 3,100 people in these regions. In addition, Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed in the presence of the Chief Minister for 41 projects across Tamil Nadu, with a total investment of ₹32,554 crore. These projects are expected to create over 49,000 jobs across the State. Of the 41 projects, 19 fall under the micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) sector, with a combined investment of ₹265.15 crore. Speaking at the event, Mr. Stalin said, 'The dream that Kalaignar Karunanidhi had for southern Tamil Nadu is now becoming a reality.' Recalling his speech at VinFast manufacturing unit's inaugural event, he added, 'Today is a golden day in the growth of southern districts.' Noting that this is the second time an investors' conclave is being held in Thoothukudi, Mr. Stalin highlighted the city's potential. 'We are committed to developing Thoothukudi, a city with a port, rich natural resources, and skilled workforce into an industrially advanced district,' he said. Mr. Stalin pointed out that special incentives were being provided for the industries setting up operations in the southern industrial parks, which were already equipped with ready-to-use infrastructure. Projects such as the desalination plant in Thoothukudi, Tidel park in Madurai, and PM Mithra Park in Virudgunagar are being set up in the southern districts. A Tidel park in Thoothukudi and TATA power solar and Vikram Solar in Tirunelveli have already been established, he said. Mr. Stalin said southern Tamil Nadu was now witnessing an unprecedented level of development. The current government was functioning with the broad objective of inclusive development and growth for all sectors, all districts and all communities. In line with this, the government has been focusing on emerging sectors such as high-tech semiconductor manufacturing, electric vehicle manufacturing, solar cells production, green hydrogen and information technology services. He announced four projects for Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli districts, including a 256-acre space park and a dedicated ship building industry in Thoothukudi, a common facility centre in Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli at a cost of ₹5.59 crore for moringa export.

Do not politicise my meeting with Stalin, says O. Panneerselvam
Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Monday rejected speculations about his likely association with the ruling DMK and further maintained his objective was to form Amma's government in the 2026 Assembly poll. He clarified that his recent comments on the Centre not releasing funds for Tamil Nadu under the Samagra Shiksha programme were not new, and he had flagged this as early as in August 2024. In a statement, Mr. Panneerselvam termed as 'indecent' the attempts by some to politicise his visit to Mr. Stalin's residence. 'The meeting was not related to politics,' he contended.'It is in the culture of the Tamils to visit and enquire about the well-being of someone, who has been under treatment in a hospital and has returned home, and to extend condolences if there is a loss in the family,' he said in a statement. Recalling his visit to the Chief Minister's residence, Mr. Panneerselvam explained that he visited only to enquire about the health of Mr. Stalin and express condolences over the passing of the latter's brother M.K. Muthu. He also rejected contentions and speculations which termed him as 'DMK's Team B', and he was about to forge an alliance with the DMK and maintained there was 'not even an iota of truth in it'. He recalled in June that he had condemned the Hindu Munnani over remarks made against late leaders Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and C.N. Annadurai. 'I have also condemned former BJP leaders who criticised Amma [former CM Jayalalithaa]. I have also recorded my support for the two-language policy,' he asserted. Mr. Panneerselvam added: 'I also directed to vote against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. Irrespective of wherever I am, I will walk on the path laid down by Amma for the rights and welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu.'

DMK moves SC against Madras HC order on naming of welfare schemes
Chennai: While state govt has already petitioned Madras high court to modify its order restraining govt from launching any welfare scheme in the name of a living political personality, DMK approached Supreme Court challenging the interim order. Supreme Court has agreed to hear the appeal on Wednesday, the party told high court on Monday. Recording the submissions, the first bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice Sunder Mohan observed, "once our order is challenged, we will not pass any further orders. Judicial discipline requires that we do not pass any orders in the matter." The court then decided to defer the hearing of the modification petition for two days and adjourned it to Thursday.
