Over 46,000 petitions received in 10 days under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme in Salem, says District Collector

District Collector R. Brindha Devi on Tuesday (July 29, 2025) said that under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme, 46,705 petitions were received in 10 days in the district. The Collector inspected the special camp under the Ungaludan Stalin scheme held at a marriage hall at Pethanaickenpalayam town panchayat on Tuesday. The Collector told reporters the special camps (168 in urban and 432 in rural areas) will be held till November in the district. In these camps, services demanded by the people based on their petitions submitted will be fulfilled by the departments concerned within 45 days. A total of 46,705 petitions were received in the special camps held between July 15 and July 25, including 26,005 petitions seeking monthly assistance under Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai and 20,700 petitions related to other department services, Ms. Brindha Devi added. The Collector said that camps were conducted in Old Suramangalam, Chinna Pudur, Edanganasalai, Mallur, Pethanaickenpalayam, and Kootathupatti in the district and proper arrangements were ensured. During the inspection, the Collector issued an order for change in name in the power connection. Officials from departments concerned were also present during the inspection.

121 road laying works costing ₹85-crore started in Kanniyakumrai district

Minister for Dairy Development T. Mano Thangaraj on Tuesday inaugurated 121 road laying works costing ₹85.36 crore in the areas falling under various town panchayats in the district. The roads are to be laid by the Department of Municipal Administration and under other special schemes for about 160.24 km in various town panchayats of the district. Inaugurating the road laying works, Mr. Mano Thangaraj said development works including laying of roads, construction of primary health centres, additional buildings in the hospitals, bridges, bus stands etc. had been taken up across the district for improving the basic infrastructure as it would indirectly boost tourism in Kanniyakumari district, which had been blessed with numerous number of tourist places. Hence, 121 road laying works had been initiated on Tuesday. The public, who were submitting petitions for redressing their personal grievances in 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps, could also draw the attention of the officials for improving other infrastructure in their area. 'While the personal grievances submitted in these camps are being redressed by the officials concerned, the district administration will take care of the general grievances like laying of roads, streamlined drinking water supply, better healthcare etc. Hence, the public should make use of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' camps being organised in their areas,' Mr. Mano Thangaraj appealed. District Collector R. Alagumeena, MLAs Rajesh Kumar, Tharahai Cathburt and senior government officials were present.

Trichy: A flag pole was damaged by unknown individuals at a govt elementary school in Thuraiyur near Trichy on Monday. The incident is believed to have happened on Sunday night. "It seems to be the work of drunkards or people who wanted to loot it and sell it as iron scrap. There has been an attempt to pull the pole off the ground. We are analysing CCTV footage to find out what happened," a police officer said. "Elementary schools don't have security guards, some people must have made use of it to do this unpleasant work there," an official said. Sources said civic officials have raised the lack of safety at schools through Ungaludan Stalin programme. Police are further investigating the matter.

Daily drinking water supply to be implemented soon across all areas in Thoothukudi Corporation, says Mayor

Thoothukudi Mayor Jegan Periyasamy on Monday announced that daily drinking water supply would soon be implemented across all areas of Thoothukudi Corporation. Speaking to the media at an event organised at the corporation office, he said that as part of the 'Ungaludan Stalin' grievance redressal camp, a total of 239 petitions related to the municipal corporation were received so far from the east have conducted inspections and resolved 114 of these petitions. At the event orders for 33 resolved petitions were also distributed to the individuals. Following that Mr. Jegan said, 'To meet the drinking water needs of residents in the Thoothukudi corporation, 62 million litres of water are being drawn from Thamirabarani river at Vallanadu. The water is distributed through 37 overhead tanks of which 33 are currently supplying water on a daily basis.' He added that areas like Aadhi Parasakthi Nagar, Housing Board Colony, Millerpuran receive water once every two days through the four remaining tanks. He further added the five wards in the city are already receiving 24x7 water supply and daily water supply would be implemented across all wards in the next 20 days. 'Those applying for drinking water connections are being provided with immediate connections. If someone has already taken a connection without proper approval, they can now regularise it by paying the required charges.' Thoothukudi Corporation Commissioner Banoth Mrugender Lal, corporation officials and councillors were present.
