Arizona Cardinals land 2 of own players in building-from-scratch NFL player draft
If every team were to start their rosters over and every player were to enter some sort of reorganizational draft, what would happen, assuming the teams would want to win now?
Well, NFL.com's Chad Reuter put together a hypothetical seven-round draft where teams would build their team from scratch and the order would be the order of the 2025 NFL draft, but then reversing order every round.
The Cardinals picked in the middle of the rounds, so let's see who they would land.
NFL building-from-scratch player draft: Arizona Cardinals
Analysis
This group would be a good start to a team, and they get a couple of current Cardinals in Baker and Campbell. Of course, it ignores a pair of premium positions at tackle and cornerback.
In Round 1, they take Lawrence over quarterbacks C.J. Stroud and Aaron Rodgers. Kyler Murray is selected one pick before, going to the Atlanta Falcons.
Offensive tackle Penei Sewell and interior defensive lineman Jalen Carter are drafted soon after Aidan Hutchinson, but considering his impact and motor, he is still a good pick.
In the third round, tackle Trent Williams and tight end Trey McBride. Would you go for Collins instead of them?
In Round 4, Smith isn't bad, especially since they hadn't already selected an offensive lineman.
In Round 5, they get Baker, while in Round 6, they take Campbell. Both are Cardinals legends.
Finally, they get a solid running back.

"There's nobody who had the game in a chokehold like Robert Griffin III," Newton said. "RG3 comes in, has an unbelievable year, and it's like, 'Hold up, he's next." And then, of course, suddenly ... he wasn't. Now, just because Griffin got beaten up and into decline doesn't mean it has to happen again. Maybe a better angle is that it's a cautionary tale for Washington, which should feel both thrilled about its new quarterback and focused on keeping him healthy. Going alphabetically up next is a free agent running back Khalil Herbert. Khalil Herbert's profile 2024 Snap count totals 2024 PFF grades 2024 Season Review Herbert spent his first three NFL seasons and part of 2024 with the Chicago Bears before being traded last season to the Cincinnati Bengals. In total, Herbert carried the ball only 36 times on the year, averaging 3.6 yards per rush with one touchdown. During his first three seasons, Herbert played a much larger role. This included carrying the ball 364 times during that span, while averaging an impressive 4.9 yards per rush. Herbert's role in the passing game over his career has been relatively small, with 64 targets over four seasons. He does have some kick return experience as well. "I feel like I can do everything," Herbert said during his introductory press conference. "Short yardage, outside, inside zone. I feel like I've been a part of offenses that have done it all. Catching the ball out of the backfield, pass pro. I've been asked to do it all, and I feel like I can do it well. I feel like I can do anything and help out in any way." Looking ahead to the 2025 season As GM Chris Ballard said at the NFL combine, the Colts need more production from the running back position behind Jonathan Taylor. Herbert can hopefully provide that production boost, but he will be competing with DJ Giddens and Tyler Goodson for that playing time and maybe even a roster spot. Although Herbert was a recent free agent addition, he is not a roster lock by any means. If released, he leaves behind a dead cap hit of just $482,500, according to Over the Cap. "Just come in here, try to learn, try to help," Herbert said about joining the Colts. "Being available, being a guy that can help carry the load. Just try to come in and bring what I can to the team, to the field, whatever is needed. That's how I look at it and being able to help in whatever way I can."
