I sparred Tyson Fury, Derek Chisora & Filip Hrgovic… no one hit as hard as Daniel Dubois, his jab felt like right hand

The Sun17-07-2025
JOHNNY FISHER has shared the ring with the heavyweight division's hardest-hitters - but none were as powerful as Dynamite Daniel Dubois.
Fisher had just ten amateur bouts before turning professional in 2021 - instead learning his craft in the gym.

That included valuable sparring rounds with the likes of Tyson Fury and Joe Joyce.
But Fisher - a guest on SunSport's No Glove Lost previewing Dubois' rematch against Oleksandr Usyk - said no one could match the power of Britain's IBF heavyweight champion.
Recalling the spars, he said: "Hardest I've ever been punched, by far. His jab is like a right hand!
"And it's only sparring as well, so you've got the 20oz gloves on and you can see how he can puts people's lights out with the 10oz gloves on."
Fisher, 26, first sparred Dubois, 27, in 2021 and most recently two years ago.
At the time, Dubois had been stopped by Joyce and Usyk leaving his career in question.
But Fisher helped the Londoner before his December 2023 bout against Jarrell Miller - which proved a coming-of-age moment.
Dubois won in the tenth and final round, later going on to stop Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in character-building victories.
Usyk vs Dubois 2 - All the info
OLEKSANDR USYK and Daniel Dubois meet again in a blockbuster heavyweight unification fight at Wembley Stadium THIS SATURDAY!
Usyk won the first fight in August 2023 via a ninth round KO - but only after Dubois knocked him to the canvas with a body blow that was ruled a low blow.
Dubois, 27, has improved massively since that first meeting, reeling off stunning wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua.

Fisher said: "Me and Daniel got on. He doesn't say much, he's quite a quiet character.
"But you have seen the development over the three or four years that I've known him and I think it's for the better.
He is fighting a guy who is crazy! Chisora | No Glove Lost: Usyk vs Dubois 2 fight preview - The Sun Sport
"He's expressing himself for, I like the cheeky comedic things you're seeing at the press conferences, his personality is coming out and I think it's important for a fighter to express themselves and do that no matter what their personality is.
"The freer you are, the more damage you can do and I think we've seen that with Daniel. Even the way his boxing skills have developed, moving off the line a bit.
"The way he came through that Jarrell Miller fight that was a defining moment for him. There was a lot of pressure on him, he was a big 25 or 26 stone man in front of him and he's come through adversity.
"I've seen good development boxing-wise and personality and I think they marry up quite well."
Usyk has already done the double over AJ and Fury with a pair of points wins - in between his ninth-round stoppage over Dubois.
But it was Chisora - who joined Fisher on our panel - who pushed the two-weight undisputed king the most in 2020.
And Fisher urged Dubois to replicate those same roughhouse tactics when he rematches Usyk on Saturday at Wembley for all four belts.
He said: "Out of everyone I've sparred, I've sparred Derek, I've sparred Filip Hrgovic, I've sparred Fury, he wants to dismantle you the most out of anyone.
"Some people spar for tech or spar to work on certain thing, he's trying to take you out. And I think that's his strength.
"His strength is the ability to come forward, the punch power, the physical nature in the clinch. And you can negate that.
"We saw in the first fight, yes it was a low-blow but somehow, it's very hard to do it and Derek's probably the best example of someone doing it, but roughhouse him.
"Get in close, not thinking about where you're hitting just going in there, biting down on the gumshield and that takes mental strength. That's a bit more valuable than talent is."

'Minutes in the legs' - Parker on split friendlies

Scott Parker split his squad across two fixtures on Saturday, with the Clarets beaten 1-0 by Stoke City in a game that saw Josh Laurent sent off on the in the day, Parker attended an in-house fixture at the training ground before travelling to Stoke, thus enabling his entire group to amass minutes as the season nears."It's another game for us, which I'm pleased with," he said after Stoke's victory, courtesy of Ben Wilmot's goal."Obviously, we split the group today, due to just getting minutes in. The number of players we've got, we just needed to get some 90 minutes in legs. We've managed to do that, so that's a real positive."Today's game, there were some positives and obviously a bit disappointing towards the end because we're all here, Stoke included, to try and get the best preparation. They're a week out, we're two weeks out and obviously the game didn't turn out like that because of the sending off, which was hugely disappointing. Overall, we looked a little bit tired, and I suspected that, we've had a tough week. But yeah, overall, we've got what we came here for."The squad was split again. Obviously, a bit of a disappointment, we had a planned game, but we brought that in-house. That was a good game, I was there this morning, the boys did very, very well. We got 90 minutes out of a few players there as well. Then this game as well which was always planned."Overall, the planning of this weekend has changed drastically in the last 24 hours due to circumstances, hence why we came here with a real flat squad. But overall, minutes in the legs, that was a plus."
