Heavyweight boxer splits with coach after knockout defeat
Johnny Fisher, known as the 'Romford Bull', has announced his separation from long-time coach Mark Tibbs. This decision comes as Fisher seeks a fresh start following his first professional defeat. He was knocked out by Dave Allen in the fifth round of their rematch in May, five months after a controversial split-decision win against Allen. Before this loss, the 26-year-old heavyweight had an undefeated record of 13 wins, including 11 knockouts. Fisher stated the split was amicable, with Tibbs agreeing it was necessary for his career progression, and emphasised their continued friendship.

Johnny Fisher splits from coach Mark Tibbs after knockout loss to Dave Allen
Johnny Fisher has announced 'with a heavy heart' that he is parting ways with coach Mark Tibbs, as the heavyweight aims to bounce back from his first professional loss. In May, Fisher was knocked out by Dave Allen in the fifth round of their rematch, five months after beating the British veteran via a controversial decision. After an unconvincing performance in their first fight and a one-sided loss in their second meeting, Fisher has decided to seek a new trainer – a decision, he says, that Tibbs agrees with. 'It is with a heavy heart that after almost five years of being on this professional journey together, me and Mark have decided to part ways,' Fisher wrote on Instagram Monday (21 July). ' Boxing is the toughest sport in the world, and to continue I feel I need a fresh start to get the best out of myself. 'Me and Mark have made some special memories and reached some milestones in my career that many thought we never would achieve. 'More importantly than all of this though is the friendship we have gained, and to know that I have Mark and Jimmy in my life and to be able to call them both friends is an honour. Thank you for everything.' Fisher, 26, was referring to Tibbs's father Jimmy, who is also a respected coach in boxing. Prior to losing to Allen at London's Copper Box arena, Fisher went 13-0 with 11 knockout wins. In the same venue, in July 2024, he stopped Alen Babic in 36 seconds. But in December, on the undercard of Tyson Fury's rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, Fisher was floored by Allen in the fifth round of a back-and-forth contest, before ultimately emerging as a split-decision winner over his former sparring partner. And in their rematch, Allen again dropped the 'Romford Bull' in the fifth round – two times on this occasion. As Fisher tried to recover from the second knockdown, his corner threw in the towel.

I sparred Tyson Fury, Derek Chisora & Filip Hrgovic… no one hit as hard as Daniel Dubois, his jab felt like right hand
JOHNNY FISHER has shared the ring with the heavyweight division's hardest-hitters - but none were as powerful as Dynamite Daniel Dubois. Fisher had just ten amateur bouts before turning professional in 2021 - instead learning his craft in the gym. 6 6 That included valuable sparring rounds with the likes of Tyson Fury and Joe Joyce. But Fisher - a guest on SunSport's No Glove Lost previewing Dubois' rematch against Oleksandr Usyk - said no one could match the power of Britain's IBF heavyweight champion. Recalling the spars, he said: "Hardest I've ever been punched, by far. His jab is like a right hand! "And it's only sparring as well, so you've got the 20oz gloves on and you can see how he can puts people's lights out with the 10oz gloves on." Fisher, 26, first sparred Dubois, 27, in 2021 and most recently two years ago. At the time, Dubois had been stopped by Joyce and Usyk leaving his career in question. But Fisher helped the Londoner before his December 2023 bout against Jarrell Miller - which proved a coming-of-age moment. Dubois won in the tenth and final round, later going on to stop Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua in character-building victories. Usyk vs Dubois 2 - All the info OLEKSANDR USYK and Daniel Dubois meet again in a blockbuster heavyweight unification fight at Wembley Stadium THIS SATURDAY! Usyk won the first fight in August 2023 via a ninth round KO - but only after Dubois knocked him to the canvas with a body blow that was ruled a low blow. Dubois, 27, has improved massively since that first meeting, reeling off stunning wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua. "But you have seen the development over the three or four years that I've known him and I think it's for the better. He is fighting a guy who is crazy! Chisora | No Glove Lost: Usyk vs Dubois 2 fight preview - The Sun Sport "He's expressing himself for, I like the cheeky comedic things you're seeing at the press conferences, his personality is coming out and I think it's important for a fighter to express themselves and do that no matter what their personality is. "The freer you are, the more damage you can do and I think we've seen that with Daniel. Even the way his boxing skills have developed, moving off the line a bit. "The way he came through that Jarrell Miller fight that was a defining moment for him. There was a lot of pressure on him, he was a big 25 or 26 stone man in front of him and he's come through adversity. "I've seen good development boxing-wise and personality and I think they marry up quite well." Usyk has already done the double over AJ and Fury with a pair of points wins - in between his ninth-round stoppage over Dubois. But it was Chisora - who joined Fisher on our panel - who pushed the two-weight undisputed king the most in 2020. And Fisher urged Dubois to replicate those same roughhouse tactics when he rematches Usyk on Saturday at Wembley for all four belts. He said: "Out of everyone I've sparred, I've sparred Derek, I've sparred Filip Hrgovic, I've sparred Fury, he wants to dismantle you the most out of anyone. "Some people spar for tech or spar to work on certain thing, he's trying to take you out. And I think that's his strength. "His strength is the ability to come forward, the punch power, the physical nature in the clinch. And you can negate that. "We saw in the first fight, yes it was a low-blow but somehow, it's very hard to do it and Derek's probably the best example of someone doing it, but roughhouse him. "Get in close, not thinking about where you're hitting just going in there, biting down on the gumshield and that takes mental strength. That's a bit more valuable than talent is." 6 6 6

Johnny Fisher reveals why quitting boxing isn't an option after knockout by Dave Allen
Johnny Fisher has no plans to quit boxing after suffering a knockout defeat in a rematch with Dave Allen at the Copper Box Arena in May. Fisher had moments of success in the fight, but he never looked settled and was eventually tracked down by Allen, who unloaded heavy combinations, finishing the fight with a flurry of hooks in the fifth round. Speaking to Sky Sports in his first interview since fight night, Fisher explained that he is ready to make a return and has taken enough time away to analyse the fight and mentally re-energise himself for whatever comes next. Fisher said: 'I know it sounds sort of paradoxical, but I'm in a really good state of mind. I feel free. I feel relaxed. And I'm ready to prove a point because that's the best place to be sometimes.' The Essex man believed he ventured too far from what he excels at in the rematch, which was his eventual downfall, but has learned his lesson, promising he will stay true to who he is and return to being the aggressor. The 'Romford Bull' said: 'In the second fight, you probably overanalyse a bit. You probably go too far the other way. And I went too far away from what I'm good at. I'm a come-forward guy. I'm aggressive." He continued: 'I think about those fights, the [Alen] Babic fights, the Southern Area title fight. The things that got me into this position. I think I went too far away from what I'm good at.' After the first Allen fight, it would have been easy for Fisher to take his controversial victory and move on, continuing his rise through the heavyweight ranks, but he said that this was never an option in his mind. Fisher explained: 'I thought, 'Am I the sort of man that I think I am if I just walk away and don't have the second fight?' Because it was a close fight, and if I'm a man of my word, a man of honour. I've got to go in there and do it. And I'm not one of these people to be worried about ifs, buts and maybes, or if I'm going to lose or not. I want to give people exciting fights.' With the future uncertain for the young Brit, he made it clear that he has no intentions of taking a step back, despite being a man who is fortunate enough to have other options, he intends to charge forward into his next challenge. Fisher told Sky Sports: 'I've got a history degree from the University of Exeter. I can go and do something else. But there's something inside of me, and I know that I can do something in this game, and me doing something in this game could be me winning a British title.'
