SOME of Scotland's busiest streets have been transformed in recent weeks as Hollywood production teams rolled into town.
Shooting has been taking place in Glasgow and Edinburgh for blockbuster director J.J. Abrams' new movie, Ghostwriter.
Film fans have gotten caught up in the glitz and glamour as they caught glimpses of A-list stars like Glen Powell and Jenna Ortega on set.
But it's not the first time that Scotland has added a tartan twist to tinsel town - as Powell was here last year too during the filming of the dystopian thriller The Running Man.
Becoming such a big attraction for the film industry is also highly lucrative for Scotland - as the sector is on track to rake in £1billion a year for the economy.
Screen Scotland believes they will reach a 10-figure turnover by the end of 2030/31 as more and more major productions continue to be made north of the border.
Here are some of the massive movies that have already brought a boost to the country.
The Batman

Twilight star Robert Pattinson, 39, took on the iconic role of Bruce Wayne in the 2022 flick.
Filming took place in Glasgow's Necropolis as the East End graveyard hosted amazing scenes involving the Batmobile.
Several of the city's streets were shut down as it doubled for fictional Gotham.
Fast and Furious 9

There were 52 road closures and restrictions in 2019 as the legendary action franchise came to Edinburgh.
The film, released in 2021, starred Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Charlize Theron and John Cena.
Around 800 crew members and 375 local hires took over the capital to shoot some incredible scenes.
Indiana Jones

Glasgow got a Manhattan when Hollywood icon Harrison Ford, 82, arrived in the city for The Dial of Destiny.
Film crews descended on the filming hotspot for two-and-a-half weeks in July 2021 as struggling local businesses battled the impact of the pandemic.
But it only got six minutes of screen time - hardly anything compared to the likes of Italy and Morocco where filming also took place.
Outlaw King

Filming took place in Scotland in 2017 after Star Trek actor Chris Pine, 44, was cast as Robert the Bruce.
Directed by Oscar-nominated Scot David Mackenzie, he shot in the Highlands, Borders and in and around Glasgow.
The movie was released the following year at Toronto International Film Festival.
World War Z

A cast and crew of 1,200, including Brad Pitt, 61, came to Glasgow for one of Hollywood's biggest zombie flicks.
American cars and street lights were brought so the city could double as Philadelphia.
It was said that the production brought more than £2million to the local economy.
James Bond

Scotland is an important part of the spy franchise's 2012 instalment Skyfall.
Daniel Craig, 57, earned rave review for his portrayal of 007 as the Glencoe Valley provided the backdrop for his home.
The success of the film has since made the scenic route via the A82 one of the UK's most popular.
Harry Potter

One of the biggest film franchises ever, Harry Potter was created as in Scotland - so it's no surprise many scenes were shot here too.
Rannoch Moore is where the Death Eaters board the train in Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 1.
The Glenfinnan Viaduct features in several of the movies, while Loch Shiel was used to shoot the underwater task of the Triwizard Tournament in the Goblet of Fire.
Glen Coe, Glen Nevis and Lochs Arkaig, Etive, and Eilt have also featured in different instalments.
Avengers

Both Endgame and Infinity War used Scotland as a backdrop for the superhero blockbusters.
Residents were warned that 'small explosions' would occur in Edinburgh.
While even fishing village St Abbs enjoyed a starring role in Endgame as New Asgard - where Thor retreats to following the events of Infinity War.
Tetris
10
Taron Egerton outside Seamount Court flats in Aberdeen.
Taron Egerton, 35, came to Glasgow sporting a retro moustache as the city was transformed into communist-era Russia in 2021.
The story centres on a legal battle over the rights to iconic 80s game Tetris, with the Rocketman actor playing Dutch video game entrepeneur Henk Rogers.
Other scenes were shot in Aberdeen and Edinburgh as Scotland got a big showing.
Batgirl

It wasn't quite so good for doomed superhero flick Batgirl.
The DC film, shot entirely in Glasgow, was set to feature Hollywood stars Leslie Grace, Michael Keaton, and Brendan Fraser.
It racked up costs of £57million but was shelved by the studio following "poor" test screenings.

Now it seems that Haim's surprise set on The Park stage faced more sound issues. The trio - made up of sisters Este, Danielle and Alana - made a highly anticipated return to Somerset on Saturday night. After performing on the Pyramid Stage in 2022, they returned to their stomping ground to perform to an eager crowd. However, during their live set, fans were heard to have shouted 'louder, louder'. The Mail Online has reported that other music nearby was drowning out the performance of Los Angeles-based siblings Haim had previously dropped several hints to fans that they would be performing at Worthy Farm in the weeks running up to Glastonbury. But despite the sound issues, the American rock band kept going with their performance. Their show was very well received by fans who took to social media in droves to praise the band, and declare that they should have been a headline act. Writing on X - formerly known as Twitter -one fan gushed: "Haim were and are exceptional." American group 'confirm' secret Glastonbury set as they tease fans with big clue A second agreed: "HAIM's (not so) secret set at #Glastonbury was outstanding. Catch it on iPlayer if you missed it, it's so worth it." "The irony that the best TBAs Lewis Capaldi, Pulp & Haim all brilliant and could easily have headlined," noted a third user. While someone else wrote: "Haim back where they belong, Glasto." And a fifth added: "Only a matter of time before HAIM headline Glastonbury. Should have been this year. Such a fun band." Glastonbury 2025 - confirmed acts so far TICKETS to the 2025 festival sold out in just minutes before some of the acts were even confirmed. Here is who has been confirmed so far. Confirmed headliners: The 1975 will take to the Pyramid Stage on Friday. Neil Young will headline the festival for the second time after his last set in 2009 on Saturday after RAYE makes her return. Charli xcx will headline the Other Stage on Saturday night. On Sunday, Olivia Rodrigo is due to belt out her hits for her first appearance while Rod Stewart will perform in the legends slot. More acts to appear on the Other Stage include Loyle Carner and The Prodigy. Doechii will make her Glastonbury debut on the West Holts Stage on Saturday night. Other names confirmed include Noah Kahan, Alanis Morissette, Gracie Abrams, Busta Rhymes, Lola Young, Brandi Carlile, Myles Smith, En Vogue, Amaarae, Cymande, Shaboozey, Osees and Gary Numan. Although the band took to a smaller stage than their headline set in 2022, the band admitted that they were delighted to go somewhat back to their roots. In a conversation with radio star Jo Whiley, Alana admitted: "We love The Park Stage. The Park Stage is our favourite. "[Be]cause that was like the first time we came to Glastonbury, we got to play The Park Stage. It felt like a movie." She continued: "It was like, 'What is going on? How did we get here?' And also just like… you never forget the first time you step onto the farm. "And it's the most insane feeling, I think, that you'll ever have. But it was incredible, it's the best festival in the world." 6 The trio suffered a technical blunder as some of their set was reportedly drowned out Credit: Alamy 6 However, fans still praised the group as they carried on Credit: Getty

Fans criticise 'brutal' Neil Young's energy for Glastonbury headline slot

Fans criticise 'brutal' Neil Young's energy for Glastonbury headline slot Fans were left baffled as the 79-year-old appeared on stage alone, with an acoustic guitar, a harmonica and a cap masking his face. Neil Young performing on the Pyramid Stage at the Glastonbury Festival (Image: PA ) Neil Young's solo performance on the Pyramid Stage to wrap up Glastonbury Festival's Saturday has left fans perplexed, with many questioning the choice. The 79-year-old musician's appearance, armed only with an acoustic guitar, a harmonica, and his face obscured by a cap, sparked debate among viewers. The BBC had initially agreed not to live stream Young's set but relented due to public demand. However, as the performance commenced, some began to doubt the wisdom of that decision. From superstar gigs to cosy pubs, find out What's On in Wales by signing up to our newsletter here . ‌ Social media was abuzz with comments, one viewer posting: "He's a legend, obviously, but not sure Neil Young is the right energy for a Saturday night headline slot." ‌ Another was more critical, stating: "Why is Neil Young even there? Let alone headlining - after Raye and Pulp." Amidst the reactions, another viewer remarked: "Ngl, I can totally understand why Neil Young initially requested his set not be broadcast.", reports Somerset Live. Another added: "The BBC should have done us all a favour and decided not to live broadcast Neil Young after all! Woeful!". Queries about the technical setup were raised by one person: "Have they forgotten to plug the guitars and mics in," while another lamented the quality of the performance: "I know Neil Young is a bit of an acquired taste but this is s**t so far." A fan expressed their letdown succinctly: "Listen I really like Neil Young. But this is brutal." One observer noted: "Songwriter maybe, I'd dispute Neil Young being one of the greatest rockstars. As a performer he just lacks that energy and star quality for a Saturday headline spot. He's a brilliant musician and songwriter, but this is not a great slot." Article continues below Yet some punters were thoroughly enjoying the performance, with one commenting: "Love Neil young and he is awesome tonight loving every minute of it." Another chimed in with: "99% of this crowd do not get Neil Young, please stop them from ever attending glasto again". As the act progressed, more folk on social media started to warm to Young's set. One enthusiast wrote: "Whoever booked Neil Young to headline the Pyramid Stage on the Saturday night... you are a genius." Another fan enthused: "Proper legend Neil Young, putting on a beltin' set, meanwhile people are moaning about him playing rock music with guitar solos at (what was and still should be) a rock festival". A third user commented: "Neil Young doesn't need to prove anything to the tik tok generation and he knows it." ‌ Meanwhile, a fourth stated: "Neil Young is a brilliant headline act for Glastonbury. No frills/theatre/flashy clothes/rehearsed speeches. Just a tight set of authentic rock'n'roll. The breath of fresh air that Glastonbury desperately needed." Neil initially admitted to fans that he "couldn't see s**t" as he started his performance. The audience appeared thin for Neil's act, given that there were other big names performing simultaneously, including Charli XCX. Meanwhile, Woodsies, which was featuring a performance by the Scissor Sisters, had reached full capacity and, as such, was shut to further admissions by the organisers. Article continues below The update follows a wave of accolades from fans directed at RAYE and Pulp for their captivating performances earlier on Saturday. The 27 year old singer RAYE took to the main stage preceding Neil Young and the Chrome Hearts, providing an "emotional rollercoaster" that left attendees elated. Concurrently, questions arose regarding why Pulp was not headlining after they "nailed" their performance earlier in the evening. A comment from one attendee read: "Pulp save the weekend #Glastonbury2025 Shame they weren't chosen as headliners over the nonsense last night and an act not even willing to appear on TV."

Glastonbury performer hit with miming accusations as BBC viewers slam set as worst they've ever seen

The Apple hitmaker, 32, was alleged to be "miming to her own records" as they cut a sizzling figure on The Other Stage on Saturday. She completed her look with dark thigh-high boots and a pair of sunglasses despite the night-time surroundings, styling her hair into waves over her shoulders. Charli opened her set with a quip of " you ready" before launching into hit 365 before following up with 360. She rattled through 17 tracks before wrapping up shortly before midnight yet despite the songstress' fashion credentials - and signature green brat backdrop screen with flashing lights - some were less than impressed. They accused her of miming and suggested an excessive use of autotune in tracks such as I Might Say Something Stupid. After watching the set from their sofas on the BBC one took to X to write: "Just miming to her own records." A second put: "Headline act at #Glastonbury2025 #Glasto is miming. Absolutely terrible," as a third wrote: "Charli XCX miming her way thru every song at Glastonbury, her mic only used for the odd 'Come On' shout. Live should be live." One then put: "Is @charli_xcx lip syncing." Another confessed: "Will NEVER understand the Charli XCX hype. Either miming, auto tune or talking." A fan then posted: "Has Charli XCX sung a single lyric yet?" Pulp takes swipe at Charli XCX during surprise Glastonbury performance Yet others loved the party vibe the beauty brought to Glasto. One mused: "Loving that Charli xcx and the 1975 have got all middle aged men in tears this weekend, can't wait for Olivia Rodrigo!!" Another wrote: "Dude… Charli XCX was f**king class." One then put: "How cool is Charli xcx" Glastonbury 2025 - confirmed acts so far TICKETS to the 2025 festival sold out in just minutes before some of the acts were even confirmed. The Sun has gone to Charli's reps for comment. SHOCK SWIPE Prior to her set, Charli faced an unexpected calling out from secret "Patchwork" act Pulp. The Britpop icons, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, had ramped up speculation for their set by not appearing on the line-up – instead choosing to go by a mystery name for a secret set. However, it had long been speculated it was actually Pulp, with piece of their equipment appearing backstage seeming to give the game away. At 6.15pm, the Pyramid stage filled with nearly 100 people dressed in black and white ponchos as the band was finally revealed. Taking a swipe at Charli XCX, who is headlining the Other Stage later tonight, a screen behind the band flashed the words "Are you ready for.... Pulp Summer."
