Nigerians lead the way in UK fashion visas according to report
According to the Telegraph's analysis of official data, there have been 291 Nigerian applications for fashion visas between 2019 and 2014, the highest number among all countries. This was followed by 67 Chinese applicants.
Fashion-related visa applications from Nigeria rose from three in 2019 to 145 in 2024. Meanwhile, over the same period, the British Fashion Council (BFC) has endorsed 71 Nigerian applications, also more than any other nationality.
The BFC has been granted the power to endorse applications on behalf of the UK's Home Office, which then signs-off on the visas. The council receives around two million pounds a year from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to promote British fashion and, in recent years, has set about diversifying the local fashion industry.
The increase comes as part of a broader surge in talent-related visa applications from Nigeria, with most applying via the route for 'literature'. Since 2019, Nigerians have made 729 applications across artistic global talent categories in the UK, the Telegraph reported. Just 59 percent of them are endorsed.

According to Sky in Germany, Isak would earn around the same amount as new signing Hugo Ekitike, who has just penned a deal worth £250,000-a-week. Sesko's price tag Man United could have to spend upwards of £70million if they want to land Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig as talks are held over signing the striker. The Slovenian has now emerged as their main target in attack with Ruben Amorim still keen to land a No. 9 this summer if he can. Sources in Germany have indicated there is a gentlemen's agreement between Leipzig and their young striker to let him leave for a fee of £60m to £70m plus add-ons - but only to select clubs. China's Wuxi Apptec to raise $980 million via new shares to boost expansion
July 31 (Reuters) - Chinese biotechnology giant WuXi Apptec ( opens new tab, will raise HK$7.70 billion ($980.93 million) through share placement, in a bid to boost its global expansion, it said on Thursday. WuXi said the proceeds will be used to fund efforts to build on its existing and new facilities and ramp up its customer service facilities, without providing any further details. The Shanghai-headquartered company, in its Hong Kong stock exchange announcement, said it will place 73.8 million new H shares at a price of HK$104.27 per share. The placing price is at a 6.9% discount to the stock's closing price of HK$112 on July 30 on the Hong Kong stock exchange, WuXi added. Hong Kong shares of the company fell as much as 6.9% to HK$104.30 by 0237 GMT. WuXi reported a more than 95% jump in its half year net profit attributable to 8.29 billion yuan ($1.15 billion) on July 28, and raised its full-year overall revenue forecast to 42.5 billion yuan to 43.5 billion yuan from its previous forecast of 41.5 billion yuan to 43 billion yuan. The biotech giant raised $500 million in convertible bonds last October, and sold its cell and gene therapy manufacturing unit, WuXi Advanced Therapies, to U.S.-based private equity firm Altaris LLC in December for an undisclosed sum.
