Tigress carcass goes missing in Madhya Pradesh's Sonwani Sanctuary; forest staff accused of poaching cover-up surface

A poached tigress carcass has mysteriously vanished from Madhya Pradesh's Sonwani Sanctuary, raising concerns of a cover-up BHOPAL: A carcass of a poached tigress has allegedly went missing under mysterious circumstances from the Sonwani Sanctuary in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, triggering allegations of a cover-up and negligence by forest staff. Sources said the carcass disappeared soon after its photo was shared on a closed Sonwani Wildlife Protection Committee's WhatsApp group on 2 August. It is alleged that some forest staff secretly moved and burnt the carcass at three different locations between 27 and 30 July to destroy evidence of poaching. Following an initial inquiry, the forest department suspended a forest guard and a forester, while six watchmen are under scrutiny. Search teams from the Lalbarra and Waraseoni ranges were unable to find the carcass at the location seen in the viral photo, raising strong suspicions of poaching. A district-level probe has reportedly confirmed lapses. Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey said he is reporting the incident to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and other regulatory bodies. 'This is an attempt to cover up poaching. Its claws were missing,' he alleged. With over 40 tigers roaming in Sonwani Sanctuary, the incident has alarmed conservationists. Authorities said investigations are ongoing.

Channing Crowder torches Hallie Aiono (Image via Bleacher Report) In a jaw-dropping segment from The Pivot Podcast, former NFL linebacker Channing Crowder tore into Hallie Aiono, the pregnant girlfriend of Los Angeles Rams star Puka Nacua, following her paternity petition filed in Los Angeles County last month. The 18-year-old wide receiver, known for his breakout rookie season, now finds himself in the middle of a growing controversy that extends far beyond the football field. Hallie Aiono files for full physical custody amid paternity questions Hallie Aiono, who began dating Nacua during his college days at BYU, filed a paternity suit on June 16, requesting legal confirmation of Nacua's paternity, full physical custody of their unborn son, and shared legal custody covering education, healthcare, and financial expenses. This follows her emotional Mother's Day Instagram post, in which she wrote, 'You were something we always dreamt of, but I have never been so afraid... I can't wait to love you forever, my sweet boy.' The story took a turn after Crowder made his views clear, casting serious doubt on Aiono's intentions and character during Saturday's podcast episode. You don't even know who was skating in you and when you got skated in.' According to Crowder, the situation saved Nacua from potentially paying child support for 18 years. 'This was great for him. Think about it. 18 years. If he had paid for this baby and did all this—18 years. 18 years,' he emphasized. Crowder also brought cultural context into the conversation, highlighting Polynesian values of family loyalty and the pressure Nacua might have felt to stay with Aiono had he believed the child was his. Forest minister orders audit of tiger deaths in Karnataka over past 5 years

Bengaluru: Following the poisoning of five tigers at MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary, forest minister Eshwar Khandre on Tuesday ordered an audit of tiger mortality in various tiger reserves (national parks) and wildlife sanctuaries of Karnataka. Delving into the activities of the wildlife wing, shortly after sending errant forest officials of MM Hills sanctuary on compulsory leave, the minister sought within 10 days a complete review of tiger deaths over the past five and a half years. As per the All-India Tiger Estimation report of 2022, Karnataka stood second in the country in tiger population, with 563 tigers in five reserves. However, subsequent surveys of big cats reduced these numbers to 408 in 2023 and 393 in 2024. Further, reports based on the tiger mortality details available with the National Tiger Conservation Authority revealed the death of 82 tigers in Karnataka over the past 5.5 years. Shocked by the alarming number of tiger deaths in the state, long known for its conservation practices, Khandre has directed both the additional chief secretary of forests, environment and ecology department and the principal chief conservator of forests (wildlife) to review the 82 deaths. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo In his letter to the bureaucrats, he wrote: "Enumerate how many of these 82 tigers died natural deaths and how many met with unnatural deaths and the reasons for the unnatural deaths. Noting lapses on the part of foresters, as acknowledged in the MM Hills case, the minister also questioned whether the department has initiated action against any official held guilty in any tiger mortality case, besides demanding details of the conviction rate in unnatural death cases. Nod for Palar checkpost After drawing criticism for ignoring the pleas of Chamarajanagar police to set up separate checkposts along the Karnataka-Tamil Nadu border at Palar, the forest department has finally given approval to construct a checkpost. TOI had reported on the department's silence over the checkpost plea of the Chamarajanagar SP. The outgoing chief wildlife warden, Subhash Malkhede, on Monday approved the request to sanction 15x15 land within MM Hills Wildlife Sanctuary at the intersection of Palar and Gopinatham near Palar bridge.
