A poached tigress carcass has mysteriously vanished from Madhya Pradesh's Sonwani Sanctuary, raising concerns of a cover-up
BHOPAL: A carcass of a poached tigress has allegedly went missing under mysterious circumstances from the Sonwani Sanctuary in Balaghat district of Madhya Pradesh, triggering allegations of a cover-up and negligence by forest staff.
Sources said the carcass disappeared soon after its photo was shared on a closed Sonwani Wildlife Protection Committee's WhatsApp group on 2 August.
It is alleged that some forest staff secretly moved and burnt the carcass at three different locations between 27 and 30 July to destroy evidence of poaching.
Following an initial inquiry, the forest department suspended a forest guard and a forester, while six watchmen are under scrutiny.
Search teams from the Lalbarra and Waraseoni ranges were unable to find the carcass at the location seen in the viral photo, raising strong suspicions of poaching. A district-level probe has reportedly confirmed lapses.
Wildlife activist Ajay Dubey said he is reporting the incident to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and other regulatory bodies. 'This is an attempt to cover up poaching. Its claws were missing,' he alleged.
With over 40 tigers roaming in Sonwani Sanctuary, the incident has alarmed conservationists. Authorities said investigations are ongoing.

82 held in Nellai district for posting casteist content online since January

TIRUNELVELI: District police have arrested 82 people in 81 cases since January this year for circulating casteist content online. 'The posts glorified caste and incited casteist sentiments and create misunderstanding and confusion in society. Personnel from the social media wing are identifying such content, including videos and photographs displaying arms and arresting those posting them. Their social media accounts and WhatsApp groups are also being examined and monitored,' Superintendent of Police N Silambarasan said in a press statement. Further, city police warned people against spreading misinformation and rumours regarding the death of IT employee Kavin Selvaganesh, which is suspected to be a case of honour killing. In a statement, the police said some social media users are circulating a murder video claiming it to be of Kavin's. 'The incident took place in Andhra Pradesh. There is no connection between that and Kavin's murder. We will take stringent action against those creating law and order issues by spreading such misleading videos,' police said. Kavin was murdered allegedly by S Surjith, whose parents are both sub inspectors of police, on July 27. Surjith and his father Saravanan have been arrested. CB-CID is investigating the case.

An Indian manager's WhatsApp text on an office group has sparked anger among Reddit users. (Reddit/Awd_7, Unsplash (Representational image)/Muradi) 'This screenshot is from my friend's whatsapp group - the last msg is from her manager apparently having the audacity to normalise working on weekends,' the Reddit user wrote. In the screenshot, a part of a partially visible message reads, 'I have commitments and plans so unable to work on Saturdays and Sundays if possible I will try to complete.' It is followed by messages from other employees in the group chat who say they won't be able to work on Saturday and Sunday. 'This is not going to work, we need to plan something else, I will address the complete team on Monday, either we have to report to office on Saturday and Sundays for complete 8 hours or need to extend the shift on a daily basis for 2 hours for next three kindly prepare your mindset and come to work on Monday,' the message reads. An individual suggested, 'They are literally stealing his labour. Refuse tactfully. If that doesn't work, refuse directly. Of course, he needs a new job soon.' Another added, 'They do it to reach you outside of work timings— they have no shame about it. Unless it's a genuine emergency, I simply ignore their calls/messages. I even had to block a colleague.' A third shared, 'Teams is documented. When they make requests like this, they don't want evidence. If someone goes to court, they can say it was a rogue manager. But on Teams, every message is logged; they can't do that.' A fourth wrote, 'Absolutely do not work a second on the weekend unless it's your own fault for not being able to in the week. Very slippery slope. Pretty sure none of us gets paid overtime for that.' Panipat police in Haryana file chargesheet against Kairana resident Naumen Elahi for spying during Operation Sindoor

1 2 Chandigarh: Haryana Police have filed a detailed chargesheet against Naumen Elahi, a former factory security guard accused of spying for Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) during Operation Sindoor , India's response to Pahalgam terror attack. This marks a significant step in the investigation into an alleged spy ring operating across North India. Elahi, who is from Kairana in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested on May 13 for allegedly sharing sensitive videos and information on Indian defence installations and troop movements with his ISI handler, Iqbal Kana. He remains in judicial custody at Panipat jail. Panipat's crime investigation agency (CIA) submitted the chargesheet before a duty magistrate on Saturday. The case is scheduled for a hearing on Aug 12 to consider arguments for committal to a sessions court. Officials claim that the chargesheet spans hundreds of pages, with more than 200 of those detailing Elahi's movements, mobile call records, WhatsApp logs, and the digital trail of data sent to Pakistan. Investigators have also included SIM cards that Elahi had used, his passport, and documents recovered during interrogation, along with records of financial transactions allegedly routed from Pakistan. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Access all TV channels anywhere, anytime Techno Mag Learn More Undo Police say Elahi had travelled to Pakistan in 2017 and remained under the radar of Indian intelligence agencies since. He is believed to have been recruited by Iqbal Kana, a former resident of Kairana who fled to Pakistan three decades ago after being named in an arms smuggling case involving more than 290 illegal weapons. Authorities allege that Elahi admitted to maintaining contact with Kana and transmitting confidential information concerning Indian security agencies knowingly. Elahi is one of five individuals arrested under espionage charges in Haryana since May. Of the five, only two — Elahi and YouTuber Jyoti Malhotra — remain in custody. The other detainee, Tareef from Nuh, is expected to appear in court on Sunday as his police remand ends. The cops say the arrests form part of a broader investigation into cross-border intelligence operations targeting India's security infrastructure.
